Hi we recently purchased a chair and it has that horrible smell to it. I currently have it airing out on the front porch. Previously I let items air out for months in garage..but there has got to be another solution.

What can I do next?

Could this be from a stain resistant coating? If so, this is NOT good. But do try OdoBan. That will get out most any smell and can be bought at Walmart. If the smell is deep inside then I'd check with the manufacturer as many are required by federal law to use a flame retardant solution on all cloth furniture and some are over soaking and can be toxic.

Can you return it? That doesn't seem right. At the very least, I would try and call the manufacturer and see what could be causing this problem, and maybe check to see if this item has been recalled as well. It doesn't seem like a good idea to have anything that causes noxious odors in your house. Who knows what could be causing that, but it can't be good for you to breathe.

I have severe chemical sensitivities, so that kind of smell would be a deal-breaker for me. You might call or email the manufacturer – if they have no suggestions, at least you can let them know the smell is too much to bring into your home and you'll have to return the chair. That could get them to address the problem for future consumers.

If it's waterproof, try wetting it and letting it air out... I got my husband a custom mouse pad (neoprene) for his b-day. It smelled SOOOOOOOOOO bad! I was airing it out on the porch and it got rained on.......when it dried the smell was gone. Good luck! :)
