It pretty much just either 'will' or it 'won't' grow (long AND/OR thick). Maybe someone else has some suggestions, but as the mother of 2 grown girls (and 2 grown boys with all different kinds of hair), I'm of the opinion that you're either born simply to grow hair or to not!

31 yr old daughter (oldest) had almost no hair til she started school and still doesn't have thick hair. Boys had a little bit, and the older one (almost 29) had light blonde hair as a little boy and still has thin, fine hair (like his dad), although they're both medium brown color, now. 2nd son now has THICK, DARK, slightly wavy hair. Youngest daughter (20) has average thickness/coarseness pretty much like mine (except mine's straight as a board and hers has a slight wave to it).

i'm a hair dresser so let me give you some suggestions. if her hair is truly FALLING out(not just normal day to day shedding...50-150 hairs/day is normal), then something is lacking in her diet, she is sick or she is stressed about some thing. so she may need to see her ped. but if it's breakage, then she needs a good trim to get the dead ends off and needs a good shampoo and conditioner. as far as getting it to grow...make sure to brush it good every day with a good stiff bristle brush.. this will help increase blood flow to the scalp. a good multi vitamin and lots of protein in her diet will also help. most kids do not grow out of the Bay hair stage will they are around 4 so you still have a little time and it might sticken up. but if you or your hubby have fine thin hair then she might have inheritted from yu and nothing will change it. they only thing you can do is cut it into a style that works for her hair type...stacked bobs are always cute and look a lot fuller on fine hair.

Definitely sounds like a diet issue. I would have her checked for vitamins deficiencies. Good luck on that brother or sister.. I'm doing the same thing:)

My daughter had the hair problem. She was a bald baby and her hair was extremely fine and thin when she was a baby. I took her to my hair dresser and she suggested cutting it. She cut in the cutest little girl bowl cut and we kept it that way for two or three years. Every time it began to grow we would put it back in the same style. It began to thicken up and it bacame shiny and completely manageable. We were then able to let it grow. Now, at 30 she has the most beautiful head of auburn hair and it is really thick and shiny. I know alot of mom's refuse to cut hair on little girls but sometimes it is the only answer and with the cute cuts it looks so much better than the long stringy strands of thin ponytails. Hope this helps!

I am not sure you can. Vitamins would be my only suggestion.
I think it seems thinner because it is getting longer.
I have the same problem if it makes you feel any better and I have a cosmetalogy license.
If you find an answer, let me know.

Ask her dr. if she may have a vitamin deficiency. They may want to do bloodwork. Or she may have an allergy. I did not have hair until I was 2 years old. My son was the same way, and his hair did not grow in on the sides for the longest time. It could also be genetics. Good luck.

Keep trimming it every 4-6 weeks. You need to get that fine baby hair off her head. Trimming will keep the hair healthy and motivate new growth.

Hi C.,

My daugther had a lot of hair when she was born but did not grow quickly. When she was around one we started give her Flintstone vitamins and it helped her hair to grow. The vitamin Biotin (spelling might not be correct) helps their hair and nails grow. It is also in pernat. vitamins. Hope this helps.

Dear C. S

It sounds like she is lacking something in her system.
There is vitamins and meneral out there to check. ask your Doctor or Pharmist if they can suggest something for her. maybe it is her thyroid.
I hope I gave you some ideas.

have a good day today

diet can effect hair growth, so do check she's getting all her vitamins. There are also conditions that cause hair to be brittle and break so that hair appears to not grow. Most of these conditions can be treated. The other option is that she is breaking it herself. Some kids twist or pull their hair in their sleep or other times. My 1 yr old has a bare patch on one side of his head where he rubs his fingers repeatedly to put himself to sleep.

I know just what you mean, C.. Both of my babies were bald for their first year, like me. My son has since grown a beautiful head of hair, but it's probably due to frequent hair cuts. As for our daughter, we've experienced the same phenomenon. The solution is at Wal-Mart. They carry an animal/human shampoo AND a conditioner called Mane 'n Tail. It stimulates growth, keeps hair soft and gives a nice shine. Since we started using it on her, she's needed extra haircuts! I hope it works for you!
