I'm looking for a referal of a company/individual to clean my home twice a month, or once a week maximum. Tasks are simple: general but thorough cleaning of 2 bathrooms, kitchen counters and floors, vacuuming, dusting, a little laundry and maybe a few dishes, occasionally windows and sweeping the deck and patio, etc.

Can someone also give me an idea of how much it typically costs for this service; $X for an X hours of service? I have no idea.

What can I do next?

L.,
I can't help you with a referral (my cleaning lady won't work outside of the city), but to give you an idea of cost:
I pay $75 for each cleaning, twice a month. They do everything you described, plus clean woodwork/vaccum furniture monthly, but no dishes, laundry or windows. I have a 1500 square foot house with 3 bedrooms, kitchen, living room, dining room and 2 bathrooms. They do charge a little more then their regular rate because we have all wood or tile floors, no carpet. If you don't get a referral, there are several cleaning services available in the phone book.
Hope this helps,
A. in St. Louis

L.,
Call Sis Cooper @ ####-###-#### or pager ####-###-####. She does super work and is super nice. She volunteered her services for a benefit I ran and the people who bought the package loved her work. I am getting ready to hire her to clean my parents house twice a month.

Hi L.,

These days our time is eaten up by work, commuting, study, and so on and so on. We don't have much time left over to clean our own homes anymore. So we hire house C. services to help clean our homes.
Since you are one of the thousands of people looking for house C. services there are a few important steps that you can take to help you make your experience as stress free as possible.

First you should decide and write down what house C. you want done in your home by a maid service. You can write down which rooms you want cleaned, what items or furniture you want cleaned, if you want laundry done, floors, carpets, basements, storage areas, dishes and other services. You can even decide on whether you want the beds made or any other special requirements. Knowing what C. services you want is important because it gives you a starting point and a goal. You may need help with room organizing. Others may need a full service move out C.. It is also possible to have your rooms dusted and organized. Everyone's needs are different. That is why I suggest T. C. Services. Visit the website http://tabbycleaning.com

Hello L. I saw your request and I have a great recommendation for you. My neighbor Bren Pathenos just had an opening come available and she has been cleaning homes for approximately 20 years.

I am unsure how much she charges I would think it might depend on the size of your house. We live in Manchester so she is close to you.

Here is her number if you would like to call ###-###-####. She also cleans for a good friend of mine and has many references.

Good luck to you!
S.

Hi. We have had a house keeper for several yrs here in st louis and in colorado. It has run us about the same in both places which is around 15 to 20$ an hour. U also have to keep things generally picked up. They dont much like to move stuff or pick up stuff. My current ones are the best (they will pick up after my 3 yr old). L.

Dear L. from Fenton,

Here is a little bit of humble advice from someone who knows a thing or two about the cleaning service.

I owned my own commercial cleaning service and cleaned homes as well. My mom cleans houses, too.

In my humble opinion, when you ask anyone for a quote:
DO
*go through someone that is recommended to you by someone you know
*in most cases, a franchise service, "big" names, pay their employees very little and charge you quite a bit. So, although you are paying for excellent service, your cleaning people aren't getting paid well enough to do it
*be as specific as you can
*understand that the statemet "you get what you pay for" could not be more true than in this industry.
*understand that your cleaning person is just that a person, too. They have lives and children, too.

DON'T
*hire someone to clean if it puts a strain on your budget
*hire someone if you want the minimum done. You can probably do the minimum yourself and save some money doing it.
*expect to pay per hour, it is the labor you are paying for not the time. An efficient cleaner, will have your house done cleaner and quicker. Someone else might slow down simply to get a buck or two more and not get your house any cleaner.

Depending on the size of your home, with two adults and two children ages 5 and 2, I can guess that a "little" laundry and a "few" dishes might not be completely accurate the day of the cleaning. After all, you are paying someone to do it right? You might just feel like leaving last night's dishes and this morning's dishes there, too, right? Or how about the laundry for the week?

I suggest you be prepared to pay about:

*$5 per medium sized load washed, dryed, folded, and put away, $7 for large, $10 for extra large.

*$10 a sink full of dishes
*$2/standard window $5/large
Everything else should be standard pricing based on square footage.

You will save about $12 per visit if you get a local (that's on a 30mi drive)

The more often your home is cleaned the cheaper per visit. About $10-$15 per visit.

With the exception of laundry, dishes and windows, for a good local cleaner expect to pay
*$120/visit bi weekly for up to 1200 sq ft
*$150/visit bi weekly for up to 1500 sq ft
*$200/visit bi weekly for up to 2000 sq ft

$.10/sq ft is really good for a good cleaner. Anything less and you will be going through cleaners like toilet paper.

Good Luck!
