OK, so I have done childcare for so long that I cant even remember a time that I wasnt doing something!! Well, now my DH has a job that provides enough income for our needs. I dont NEED to make money, but we do have debts and home repairs that if I were making some money, they could be taken care of faster. So, I am considering offering hourly drop off childcare two days a week. Here is the question...would any of you use something like that. I have to have enough clients to make it worth my time obviously. I know that there are some great centers that offer this service, but it is SO expensive. I would certainly not charge as much. I am thinking of charging $4 per hour for the first child, and $1 per hour for each additional. I am also considering doing it a bit cheaper if you set up a regular schedule and pay in advance...like maybe a person would set up for every Tuesday for 5 hours lets say. I am mulling all of this over as a way for me to continue to help clean up some of our debt. I would love to hear your thoughts or experiences. What would you need to see or know before you would be willing to leave your child for a few hours?? Hmm..whatever advice you've got, I will take it:) Thanks ladies!!

What can I do next?

If you were semi-close by to me, I absolutely would use your service. I personally have NO family in TX at all and situations come up where I need a sitter for a few hours. Its obviously not guranteed income, but if your doing to help people out, I think its a great idea.

Eh. I've had hourly or drop-off kids from time to time in my care, and it's too unreliable.
I would post an ad for a part timer or two. I had a little girl that I was keeping from 3pm-5:30pm everyday M-F. I loved it, b/c I already had 2 full timers, which is a handful, so just having that third one be part time is a relief.
And I would charge more than $4 per hour! Childcare is HARD work as you know and people will take advantage of you.
I charge $6 per hour for hourly kids, + a 20% discount for siblings.

I think its a great idea- although like others said unreliable income. Unless you had people set up a weekly schedule, say once aweek for 2 hrs at a certain time, then maybe you could do a little scheduling. I would certainly use a service like that with my 3 samll kids for an hour or 2 to do errands alone!! I guess I would need some refernces, maybe see your house before i would commit to leaving the kids. You do already have 5 kids at home, and I think in home daycare is 6 including your own, so it may not leave you much room to take on kids. Great idea though!

Are you still doing this? I am considering classes at TWU next Fall and needed someone to watch my little one while in class. At that time, she'll be 2. Let me know if you're doing this. Thanks!

I wish I knew someone like you when my daughter was little.

We have no family and sometimes it was tough to find a place for her to have a playdate or something while I went to the Dr. or whatever. My husband travels and it was often just myself and daughter.

I love the idea but agree that it is not that reliable or guaranteed income.
