I was just finishing cooking dinner tonight when I splashed a little olive oil on my favorite maternity khakis. I haven't had much luck with this type of laundry stain in the past and was hoping someone had something that worked. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I used to work at Pizza Hut when I was in college, and had to wear khakis. I was always getting oil all over them, and Spray 'n' Wash GEL always got it out. SHout Gel is about the same and works well too. Just make sure you wash it right after you treat it, because stain removers can bleach out khaki easily.

I use a soy soap bar for stain removal now, but if you don't have one and don't know of where to get one I recommend using Goo Gone or Goof Off. Either one has worked to remove grease and oil stains from my clothes in the past.

Hi H.,

I bet you could squirt some dishwashing soap (not automatic dishwasher detergent) on the stain and wash them as usual. Make sure that you line dry them, just in case the stain didn't come out. If it didn't, just soap up and wash again.

Good luck,
N.

We use DeSolve it for oil stains. You can get it at Wal-Mart and Alberstons. It's in the cleaning aisle - not the laundry aisle.

Scrub with hot water and dish soap, then sprinkle it with corn starch or baby powder. Let it sit over night, then rinse with hot water and wash as usual. Line dry in case it didn't work. I have had success with this, but not always. Once it is dried in the dryer it is hard to get out, but I have had this work sometimes even after the dryer.

Ditto the dish soap (liquid, Dawn-type). Just squirt a little of that on, rub it in, and wash like normal. The spot will probably be completely gone with just that. Otherwise, the shout tends to work okay. But dishsoap always works for cooking oil for me. I haven't tried DeSolve-It, but I hesitate to do that because DeSolve-It is pretty much just citrus oil. Logic would say that oil doesn't take out oil without leaving an oil stain! But who knows. I've never actually tried it. Dishsoap is cheaper, though, and most people already have that on hand.
