Hostess Gift?

I am on my second pregnancy, twins this time. A good friend (who threw my first shower 4 years ago), her MIL, my MIL and my SIL are throwing this shower for us. I want to say I've heard of hostess gifts, but I didn't do them for the first shower so I'm not sure. Would thank you cards suffice or should I go the extra mile and get the hostess gifts, and what should I get (keeping in a budget) and how would I give it to them? Please help, the shower is this Saturday. Thanks in advance!!!

What can I do next?

Flowers...not really a hostess gift but just a nice thing to do. Arrange some from the store and take them to the party giver's house the day before. They can be a centerpiece or nice touch for the house. And prompt and gracious thank you notes after the party to the party givers and present givers.

I think you should do hostess gifts. It does not have to be expensive.

Candles, lotions, nice frame...anything that is personal. It is almost easter so you could get a small basket and fill it with candy and/or baked goods.

I gave my gifts after the shower.

My mom hostess lots of showers and the best gifts are ones she can use. I did a gift bag of gourmet food products: coffee, tea, hot chocolate, chocolate, hard coffee cookies (I can't think of the name). Everyone liked it because they could use it. I was having to watch my budget so I went to Kroger and bought packages that I could divide up. I did write a card for each person to personalize.

Remember it is the thought that counts more than the price.

Bath items are always nice. Don't give flowers -- hard to transport and keep nice.

You're talking about 4 gifts which can be purchased for a total of $40.00. Hobby Lobby has great gifts for $10.00 and under. I was in Hancock Fabrics this week and they have lots of neat things. Just look around. Easter is almost here. You may be able to find something for Easter then in your Thank You note you can mention that you hope that each year at Eastertime they will look at it and remember how much you appreciate what they did.

A nice gift I think would be, for a nice dinner out for the group including you. (no cooking,clean-up,etc.) and then give them a gift card. Remember they are giving double, their time and money etc., along with the people that are coming.

I am going to be a real kiljoy on this one. I think that gift giving in todays society is getting out of control. Why is it that you think you should get them a gift? The party is for you and your expected children. I think that a nicely written thank you note should suffice.
Lordy, "Susie" gave my two year old a present, so now I have to give her two kids a present...then "Susie" says, "well, she has one kid and I have two, so, I will get her an EXTRA present....but wait!!! I got TWO gifts, so I will give her ANOTHER present....but wait!!! Thats not even, so I will give HER a present,.....blah, blah, blah.
You see how silly it all sounds!?!
Be nice, say thank you....and end it there.

A hostess gift is intended to show the person hosting your appreciation for their thoughtfullness. Usually it is a small, personal gift, but chocolates, candles, picture frames, etc all could be given in a creative way as suggested by others on this site. I think it depends on how your family does this, I never knew about such things in the family I grew up in, but my in-laws were very much into hostess gifts. Since your friends and family are giving you another shower, I'd say that a small thank you gift would be appropriate (under $10 each) with a personal note of appreciation. Congratulations on your twins!

How about a group of fresh herb plants, planted in a pot your child has painted? I noticed HEB has small fresh herb plants for $3.00 each. I like mint, basil and oregano. They could keep them right outside their door and use the herbs for cooking.

Have your husband put this all together with your child.

Hand-written thank-you cards with really heartfelt sentiment would suffice (not store-bought ones that you just sign). If you want to go a step further, you can add a candle to each--"...Just to show you a glimmer of the light that you shine onto my life." If you can think of specific likes or passions for each, purchase some semblance and add it to the card--example: miniature sailboat for the one who just loves marine life.

Sorry, T.. I failed to read the shower is on Saturday. I would definitely do a hostess gift. Maybe a candle or picture frame. Head up to Stein Mart or TJ Max. They have some neat things at a cheap price.

Hi T., These $7 address stamps are GREAT gifts and cheap! I have personally purchased from this seller off of Ebay and he was great to work with. I purchased two and if I remember correctly, I didn't have to pay any extra shipping. You might look into it. Shipping is really cheap as well. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=31...

For my wedding showers, I did photo frames for the girls and shot glasses for the guys (it was thrown by the bridesmaids/groomsmen).

Photo frames are always a great idea for anyone who has children.

I think a thank you card would be nice but if you feel like you need to go the extra mile something small should cover it. I was thinking maybe since spring is in a couple of days, a clay pot filled with a few packets of flower seeds and maybe some cute gardening gloves and a small shovel would be nice and cute. Or a candle with a little note attatched saying something like: I hope every time you burn this candle you will think of me and our friendship and although I may be very busy soon, I will always be there for you. Hope this helps.

Congratulations! I, too, am a mother of b/g twins. They are 18 months old and we've had so much fun!

I have been a hostess of many showers and I will tell you it's a lot of work and it's very expensive. A small gift is appreciated. It let's the hostess(es) know you appreciate our efforts so much that, although you couldn't do much (expecting more children is expensive), you wanted to do something to let us know. A few gifts I've received have been: a guest towel with my initial on it (readily available at most boutiques), a scented candle (you can use an online 20% coupon at Bed Bath & Beyond or Linens n' Things, etc), a jeweled picture frame (Hobby Lobby 50% off), a small pewter serving tray, a box of kitchen matches in a cool iron box, or a decorative cross just to name a few. I've loved everything I've ever gotten! It doesn't have to be expensive (we'd actually prefer it not be). It just needs to be special; something from you that when we see it, will remind us that we gave you a shower and you appreciated it very much. My heart smiles when I see that frame or refil the iron box with my kitchen matches.

As Guest of Honor, for my hostesses, I've bought some of the things mentioned above and I've always been quick to send a follow-up thank you note to the hostess(es) for throwing the shower. For my first baby shower hostesses, I found some cute "Limoges" style boxes that looked like pacifiers at Tuesday Morning. They were precious and my hostesses went crazy over them. They were inexpensive but so fitting for the occassion. Whatever you do, put some thought into it and make it special.

Enjoy those babies!

A nice candle, bath salts or just a little treat would all be nice gifts. I bought silver paperweights in the shape of hearts that had a mother saying on it and gave them to my hostesses, they cost me about $10 each and were quite pretty.

If you can't afford $10 each and a nice thank you note, just go with the thank you note in a really pretty card. Tuesday Morning is a great place to look and Amazon.com (where I got my hearts) ships free w/ $25 purchase.

The Dollar Tree has lots of stuff that you could make a "spa" basket with. You could buy the basket and a bunch of stuff to fill it and only have to spend around ten bucks per person. I have made many baskets that were very nice and not expensive.
