Thank You Gift Ideas for Baby Showers?

I'm having a shower thrown for me next Sunday. I was wanting to get a thank you gift for the hostess. She used to be a pro-chef so she probably has everything kitchen and cooking related. What do you suggest I give as a gift that is not a gift certificate, candle, or other over done thing? Also, when is the best time to give the thank you gift? Directly after the shower or on a seperate date after the shower?

Thanks ladies,
TL

In my opinion, the hostess gift should be given at the end of the shower. If she doesn't already have it, I would give her Paula Dean's new cookbook. She is fun and has lots great ideas. You can be a good chef, but that doesn't mean you know how to make good home cookin, and Paula does.

Is she hosting it in her home? Depending on how much money you wanted to spend, maybe you could give her a certificate for carpet cleaning or light house cleaning (one-time only). Although it is done all the time, if she is wine-drinker then a bottle of wine and some good chocolate would be great. Or, again, depending on how much you were looking to spend, you could sign her up for a wine-of-the-month club. The Traveling Vineyard (www.myttv.com) has a membership that is 30 dollars a month and they send two bottles of wine and all of the materials that would be given in a wine class. You can do it for one month only, or 3 months or more. I have had a few friends get this and they really like it.
Taking the time to say thank you and recognizing this woman for her generosity is more important than the actual gift, as I'm sure you know. She'll appreciate your thankfulness regardless of a gift.

I have hosted a lot of showers in the past few years and my favorite gift was a LL Bean tote bag with our names monogramed and I've also received another really cute bag with our initials monogrammed. I have also given wine with a wine coaster from Pottery Barn. Another idea from LL Bean is the travel bag (for toiletries) We've always exchanged gifts at the end of the shower.
Enjoy your shower and good luck with your new baby!

Hi, i had the same problem with my baby shower. it was given by 3 host's and they r all so diff but i wanted to give them the same thing ( 2 of them were my sisters). So i came up with my own gift basket for a movie night for them. I put in delicious chocolates, Dublin Dr Peppers, popcorn, and some crackers as well as a gift certificate to blockbuster to tie it all in. i presented to them after i opened all my gifts and it was a big hit. hope this helps.

I like the pedicure, manicure, and/or massage idea. Nothing says I appreciate you like a little pampering, and it might be something your hostess doesn't indulge in regularly (or ever). Congratulations and enjoy your shower!

I'd do a nice bottle of wine, always appreciated and she won't have to dust, or clean it! If you can't find out what she drinks, buy something that YOU like and just tell her that this is one of your favorites and you hope she'll like it.

you could get her a 30 min massage or something like that (although it would be a gift certificate for that)

or you could frame a nice pic of you & her at the shower...

i have given my thankyou gifts at different times before the shower or later depending on what i was doing & if i had it ready

Congratulations on your baby and how thoughtful of you to want to get your Hostess a thankyou gift. I would say that every womwn I know has something they want that no one ever gets them. For instance, my cousin has wanted a massage for a long time and she has yet to get one. I never spend any money on clothes for myself, so I always want gift cards to clothing stores, never get them. Anyways, you get the idea. If you can find out what her thing is than that would be the most thoughtful. I also make sure that they get a framed picture after the baby is born.

Hopr this helps!!!

I gave my friends pedicures from the salons we had been to together. It was kind of sentimental, I thought since we had gone before together. Another idea that's cute is personalized stationary.

I think a nice basket will suffice. Maybe a cookie or chocolate covered strawberries basket. Try the web for what type of basket. That's always a good gift. Not overdone either.

I had 2 hostesses for my shower. I had a housecleaner come over before the party for one hostess (at her request - with two kids, she was more concerned about getting the house presentable before the party rather than cleaning up after), and I gave the other hostess a gift certificate for a pedicure at her favorite salon.

I just gave a baby shower for a friend a couple of weeks ago and as a thank you they brought me a bottle of wine. If she doesn't drink you could take her to lunch at her favorite restaurant or buy her a gift certificate to that restaurant or her favorite store. Hope the suggestions help. Congratulations on the new baby!

I'm a Brighton fan, so I always give Brighton. They have everything from bookmarks to purses, so there is usually something within your price range. For one baby shower I gave the hostesses a Brighton bookmark with a woman's devotional book (it was given by ladies at my church) They also have things like brag books or key chains. I like giving them because most everyone likes their styles and it seems more personal to me!!

Give her something special at the shower and make a short statement thanking her for putting it all together and inviting everyone. That way she'll get the credit and recognition for organizing things. An ideal time would be towards the end of the shower before people start leaving.

Gift ideas (without knowing her personality): a locket, a very nice bottle of wine, a box of chocolates or sweets, a one-night stay at a nice hotel or bed and breakfast...

Let us know what gift you end up getting!

It doesn't matter when you give the gift. Showing that you appreciate what she is doing is what is important. I gave out gift cards for my hostesses and I gave them to them on the day of the shower. I figure if they were spending time planning a shower, I could at least spend a few minutes getting a thank you gift.

If you know what she likes, then maybe a music CD (I got one and loved it for a shower I hosted), or a DVD or a book. When I hosted a shower at work, the girl took me out to lunch afterwards.

I think that the best gifts are things that every girl wants, but never actually gets for themselves... like little luxuries. I love giving gifts and always try really hard to make them personal and different. For my baby shower, I made each of the 6 hostesses some personalized stationary (I used to print for a stationary and invitation boutique, so I knew how to do it, but you can get this done at several stores in the area... email me for suggestions, if you want). I got some nice candles and bath stuff (that all matched eachother and the stationary) and put it all together in a cute box. I ended up getting a plain brown (kraft) box... super cheap at Michael's... it looked kinda like a hat box. Then I tied a pretty pink toile grossgrain ribbon around it and attached a cute, thought-out note to the box. It was a big hit, and everyone was so suprised when they pulled out the notecards and saw their name printed on them. I was able to get stationary that matched everyone's personality, too, so that made it a little more special.

Another good idea would be monogrammed "guest towels" or napkins... you know the kind you keep in a tray in the guest bathroom that has the family/couple's monogram on it. go to www.printappeal.com for ideas and stores that sell their merchandise.

a gift i received once as a member of the wedding party for a good friend was a leather bound journal with my name embossed on it. she did this for all the girls in the wedding party, but what was extra special was that she chose a word that described each of us and had that printed on the journal too... as in loving, grace, merciful, gentleness, etc... it was almost overwhelming how much she had thought out that gift... really special.

good luck!
-S.
