Host/hostess Gift Etiquette -- What's Appropriate?

My cousin (actually a second cousin) has always extended an open invitation for us to visit and stay over night at their home (they are 3 hours away). This weekend, my daughter (3 months) and I are going to spend 3 days with them. We live completely different life styles and I'm a bit nervous about doing the "wrong" thing. They are about 10 years older and quite affluent and well, we are not. ;) Is it proper to take a gift? If so, any suggestions? They seem to be "wine buffs) so a bottle of wine makes me nervous.

Thanks!

What can I do next?

go have a good time and stop worrying about how much money they have and whether or not you will do the wrong thing. it sounds like you are hesitant about bringing a bottle of wine because may be you will bring the wrong kind. go to the beer and wine store and see what type of wines they have which are new or make local to the area. any one who likes wine likes to try different types of wine. it is the thought that counts.

Hi

How about some mulling spice (best one we have tasted was Williams Sonoma) and local apple cider?

How about a mum plant?

Think Fall!

you can always make up a little basket w/ different types of cheeses, that goes well w/ wine :) !! throw in some differnt meat like pepperoni & sausge sticks. maybe some crackers or crunchy bread sticks. whether you take something along or not, go enjoy yourselves, real family will not judge you or your lifestyle, they love you for who you are .. not what you are!!! HOPE YOU HAVE A GREAT TIME !!

Definately bring a gift. If you're not comfortable w/ wine, then make up a pretty gift bag w/ a fall Yankee candle and maybe some chocolates or some other fall dec
