We're attending a party at a friend's house. She doesn't want anyone to bring a dish or beverage. Therefore, I would like to bring her and her husband a gift. Any ideas?
If they drink wine a nice bottle of wine is always nice but use a wine bag so they don't feel obligated to open it that day, if you don't know what they like just ask at Central Market for a good new wine so chances are they haven't tried it before. Or another idea is a gift basket with things that are just for 2 people World Market is a great place to get great basket stuff (it can get expensive). Simple is always the best way to go I would not take flowers she would feel the need to display them and they might not go with the decor. If she is a close friend you could ask if they need coolers or tables that you could loan them but if not close, call on the way over and ask if you can bring more ice or anything if you just like to help.

Hi S.!
I sell personalized stationery and gifts.
Hostess gifts that are popular are note paper in acrylic holders with the families names on them. Perfect to put by the phone.
There are also monogramed guest towels in an acrylic holder that are the perfect addition to any guest bathroom.
How about some cute decorative cup towels? You might even have them embroidered with the hostess's initial or something. Or maybe a cookbook with one of those cute cookbook stands. Something "kitcheny" might be appropriate if she's doing a dinner. I do agree with everyone else that flowers are always nice to get too! But if you want something non-perishable...

Stop on your way to her house and get a bunch of flowers. Flowers are always appreciated and do not cost as much at Walmart or a grocery store.

what about a nice flower arrangement or plant? If you wanted to contribute money (not sure what the event is) then you can put a small gift card with it.

Take a bottle of wine anyway, it can be used later or at the dinner. Wine is always a nice gift. Good luck!

Sahm,
A great smelling candle, an orchid plant, or if it is an outside bbq, you could bring a plastic drink bucket full of monogrammed napkins, monogrammed plastic cups (easy to find already printed with an initials)at any party boutique store. Along with crazy straws and a bottle of lemondade to use at a later date. I've given beach totes with sunblock, a novel, cute towel and a card game. If it is formal, there are great games to buy to break the ice at a dinner party too. I love to receive unique things versus a bottle of wine.

I also think cute beverage napkins for her to use in the future are a fun thank you gift! Wine is always great and you might also think about a hanging plant that she could enjoy outdoors if that is appropriate. Have fun!!! :)

If you take flowers, make it something potted or already in a vase. You don't want her to have to stop "working" the party to pull out a vase from the cupboard, fill it, etc.
I agree that wine is always a great gift as well.
Another gift idea is a gift card to someplace she enjoys, I've been given $10 gift cards to places like La Madeline before and loved it!

I've gotten bottles of bread dipping sauce or even a nice Olive Oil tied up with raffia, that I enjoyed. If you're considering wine, my daughter sells wine that is shipped straight to your house and there are gift baskets or you can have bottles personalized. All of the wines are from Napa and Sonoma valleys. Her website is www.straightfromthevine.com
Hope this helps!

My favorite place for flowers is Artistic Flower Market on 7th St, near the Montgomery Ward Plaza--you design your own bouquet and it's a great value--you can also buy all any size of vase really inexpensively. I agree with the comment about taking flowers already in a vase...
A bottle of wine for she and her husband to enjoy later...
I received some beeswax candles before and loved them...

I have a couple of ideas. One is something for their home. I am a consultant with a company that sells wickless, flameless, soot free and lead free candles. We have warmers that melt scented wax bars with a 25 watt lightbulb. (Safer, healthier and more economical than traditional candles.) We have over 75 scents and 40+ warmer styles. In my experience, men and women alike really like Scentsy. Scentsy is always a nice gift and they can plug it in and use it the evening of the party. My website is www.scentsy.com/awesomearomas.
My second idea is food, but presented in a different way. You can get a nice basket and fill it with packaged gourmet food items, such as salsas or pastas (many more things as well) that you can't usually get in a regular grocery store. You can also put nice hand towels along with it or some type of kitchen utensil in with it as well. You can usually find all these items in the food isle at TJ Maxx. I have given this as a hostess gift many times and it was always a hit.

S. I would suggest a simple bouquet of Spring flowere, so long as she and her family are not allergic or a 3 layer jar candle that would go with her decor.

Dear S. T,
Flowers are always a good idea--maybe even potted ones that could be planted outside later. Candles are another option. Of course, if it is appropriate, a bottle of wine always works as well. Have a good time!

My neighbor has a business, she monograms virtually anything. I was over there getting teacher's gifts, and saw a great monogrammed casserole cover. She also has throw blankets, beach towels, aprons, koozies, travel mugs, etc. She can get it to you within a few hours if necessary! I can't recommend her work enough. I use her for every gift I need!

If this is not a formal affair just get one of those wire plastic coated caddy baskets that hold your napkins, and utensils for a party. If this is for memorial day get a blue or red one. Make it a movie on us basket.
In the three front slots put one coke one diet coke, a bag of popcorn & Blockbuster gift card. In the large back slot you buy 4 or 5 different boxes of movie candy and put in.
You have just given the whole family a movie night on you.
It is a all inclusive gift. I do this alot for teachers and friends and they love it. I love it because it is
very inexpensive. You could also buy some little flags and put in it to go alog with the theme of the holiday.

How about a nice selection of assorted perennials in a nice plastic disposable pot(tie a bow) from your local Wal-Mart or home garden center usually range from 7-20 bucks - it was a perfect gift for mother’s day - my mother and sister loved them and planted them - still growing beautifully in their gardens.

You didn't say what her interests are, do they drink or are tea-totalers. Downtown Wylie has 2 shops that have unusual gifts. Twin Creeks has coffee from Vermont and a selection of tea cups, etc.... & food items. Twisted Pepper has homemade fudge (my boys like the jalapeño flavor, hubby likes the snickers flavor), various salsas and dips, a few kitchen items. Like the other ladies said, you can't go too far wrong with flowers, wine, or gift baskets. Enjoy!

Buy a 99-cent to $1.99 re-usable shopping bag from your local Central Market or Sprouts, and include some healthy food choices in any theme you wish: examples, spaghetti night, movie night with organic pop corn, etc. Throw in a gift card to that grocery store and tie a bow on the shopping bag and you are DONE!!

If you want to give a gift that will last a lifetime you might consider giving her Tupperware.
I have several things on hand or if time permits we could order her a special piece.
Tupperware if guaranteed for a lifetime and you can pass it on to your childrem and the guarantee transfers to them.
A bottle of THEIR favorite wine, not for sharing on that night, a small outdoor plant, fresh flowers, but try not to overdo it.
