Hormone Change and Reaction to BC Pills at 30. Help!

I am 30 and I'm going through hormone crazy time! Crying one minute, happy the next. Persistent vaginal dryness and sensitive skin. Lost my mojo. Horrible periods with the worst cramping I have ever had and bloating. This has been going on for about 2 years. It started out a every now and then problem and now it is a constant problem. All tests come back fine. No endometriosis. We are trying to figure it out. My gyno thinks I am having a reaction to the pills and that really I have been on them way to long. She has changed my pills a couple of times. Some have been better than others. I have been monitoring my diet, I exercise regularly, and cut out caffine and excess sugar. I've gotten some of my mojo back but the sensitive skin and dryness is making me not want to be intimate with my husband. Bless his heart with my mood swings. we can overcome some things with product but his itchy beard is like a thousand needles poking me in the face and body. He has tried using conditioner on his beard but that is not helping. I talked him into letting his chest hair grow out and it is soft and doesn't cause a problem but the beard makes me want to chloroform him and shave it off! He has it in his head that I am using my sensitive skin as a way to get him to shave. He looks good with and without a beard but because of this idea, he won't shave it for me. My last option is to stop taking the pills (my insurance doesn't cover other forms of bc), start using condoms again, and see if my issues clear up. We don't want to do permanent birth control because we may want one more kid. Anyone else have any tips for the beard or sensitive skin? Vitamins? (I take a multi every day) or is this something we are going to have to ride out? Thanks! Any advice or anything I need to have my doc check for is appreciated!

Sounds like you are long overdue to get off the pill.

I would hope you get off, and stay off, of bc pills. The biggest concern is that the World Health Organization has these hormone pills listed as a Type 1 Carcinogen, right beside the page about mustard gas. !!!

There are healthier ways to postpone pregnancies. One way is the (no medication involved) Natural Family Planning. The newly developed NaPro Technology is much better than mucus observations. Check out http://www.vitaeaustin.com/patient-education.html

Best wishes

Have you thought about mirena? If you think you want to try to get pregnant within the next 12 months, I'd say no. But if you are planning to wait a year or more, then it might be worth it. More secure and less hassle than condoms, but not permanent. It's effects (IN MOST WOMEN) are local and not systemic, so it lightens your periods and helps the cramps (along with contraception of course), but it's less likely to cause mood swings than the pill. It is also less likely to cause dryness as compared to the pill.

For the sensitive skin - make sure you are washing your underwear in a free-and-clear laundry detergent (no fragrance at all) and no fabric softeners or dryer sheets.

The beard. I hate beards against my face. Maybe if he wore a beard net?

The rest. I have a friend who had similar issues that has gone gluten-free and swears that it has improved her health, and that it would've improved these issues also.
