I believe under the no child left behind law the school district is required to provide a tutor to you at no cost.

i really don't think you can home school her. you can't spell. you can't write. i am sorry to say this but someone needs to point it out to you. see if the school will provide tutors. tell them you're not equipped to homeschool her and that the school needs to come up with a better solution. your daughter will suffer academically in the long run if you attempt to do this yourself.

Under Special Education Law, your daughter is probably entitled to an IEP (Individualized Education Plan) with a designation of OHI (Other Health Impaired). My older son has hydrocephalus and some other medical problems and OHI was the designation under which he was entitled to special education services. Be careful and persistent with school districts - they're rarely up front with you and will try to get away with whatever they can. It's their duty to identify your child as a child with special needs, and already it appears they're delinquent in that.

Hi C. - I just sent you a little note asking you to clarify your other message. The school district is required by law to offer you a tutor for a child who has illness that takes them away from school alot. ie: in Colorado the law says that children should be able to learn in the least restrictive environment. Discuss this again with your daughter's principal or administrator. You may need to take it to the district level if they are not cooperative.

C., the school is obligated to educate your daughter even if she has a chronic illness that makes that difficult for them to do. Medical conditions that cause needs are fully covered by IDEA. WRITE, do NOT CALL the school, and tell them you want an evaluation for your child because she has a disabilty (she qualifies under the category of Other Health Impairment) and she needs specialized services (probably home bound services.)

It is absolutley reprehensable that any school official would suggest to you that you are required to educate your own child. They are taking advantage of you to get this problem off their books. It may be expensive for them to send someone to your home when she is ill, but that is how it is. Unless you really want to educate her yourself, make the request today.

Find an educational advocate in the Indianapolis area, look on www.wrightslaw.com under the Yellow pages, and get in touch with someone to help you. When you write to the district requesting evaluation and home bound services, tell them that you will hold them responsible for any and all expenses that you take on to get them to fill their obligation to educate your daughter.

The school needs to find a way to provide services for your child, even if she's sick. This is required by law. Many people homeschool very successfully, but it's not for everyone. The school has a whole group of teachers, as well as counselors and others, who have been trained. It can be very hard for one person to provide everything that a whole team of teachers can provide.

I do believe the school is required to help you. Awhile ago they would send a tutor out but I am sure that's probably district specific.
I would also consider contacting your state department of education.

I have to agree with previous posters. You will need to contact your local school district. Nothing anyone says here will actually help you. I strongly recommend against homeschooling for you, not just because of your horrible grammar and spelling, but because you likely won't need to. Please, for the sake of your child go, call or run to your child's school and ask for their help.

NO ONE can tell you that you HAVE to home school your child. You have every right to put them into a public school system. I would, however, refer to your rights as a parent and look to have your child identified as a child with a disability under Other Health Impairment - minor and put her on an IEP or at least a 504 plan. Look into this, contact a parent advocate or contact your state board of education.

First off, the school can't demand you to homeschool your child. Indiana law says that a homeschool is the same as a private school so the most the school could do is say they recommend you work with her or hire a tutor to help catch her up, they can't tell you you have to take her to another school.

Second, I'd find out about tutoring through the school or assistance the county or the school has for children who are out a lot due to medical conditions.

Third, if you do want to go ahead and homeschool, I schooled my children for 3 years before I let them go into public school last year. I still school my kids on the weekends and during breaks so that they're where I feel they should be. If you want, feel free to email me for anything. IF after talking to the school, you are still not satisified, you can call a child advocate to help you. A.S.K. (About Special Kids) is one group. Their number is 1-800-964-4746. Another is Insource-1-800-332-4433. They will connect you to your local advocate. Indiana Protection & Advocacy Services, I believe you will speak to Debbie Dulla at ###-###-#### or 1-800-622-4845. You will find that some schools aren't willing to readily tell you what you need, and if you don't ask for what you need, they won't provide it. These advocates will help you get what you are legally entitled to for your daughter.

I am sorry about your daughters illness - but you have asked this same question 5 times now - I have answered it 3 times now!! whats up with that?

homeschooling is really hard - i gave it up! - nobody can make you do it, or even suggest that you do.

Contact your school district and let them know you do not have the skills necessary to teach your child.There are programs that provide qualified teachers to come to your child in times such as those you spoke about. They will try to get you to do it if you will as it is cheaper for them, but it is not the best for you or your child. If need contact your local covered bridge or special needs program. Best wishes this will be less stressful for you too.

www.k12.com. See if there is a charter school in your area that does homeschool. check out www.caliva.com (not in your area but you will see what I mean). It's a public school that the lessons are done at home.

we use k12.com for our youngest son. it's very easy to use and they send you everything you need. you get a computer, books, workbooks, teachers answer keys and even help pay for your internet! we love it.

Take a deep breath.
Ask the school for the 7h and 8th grade standards for each grade and then go from there. Also ask them for a tutor.
For math many homeschoolers use Saxon MAth. I use Singapore, it is more advanced than some.
For English I use Shurley Grammar. THere is also Rod and Staff. I would have to Google them.
Your library should offer some help too or may know about some of the hoeschool groups around.

Hi! I homeschool my two teenage boys and love it, it's not hard but can be intimidating to get started at first. Do you have a homeschool group in your local area that you can join? That will give you a lot of resources. Also if you google for homeschool rules for your state you will know what all you need to track for them, it's different state to state.

Whenever you conctact your school, district, or whoever, document what was said. Note the date, time, and name of the person you talked to. This is just in case anything goes wrong down the road.

Whoever said" write to your district" has a good idea, That way there is a paper trail. You might want to consider sending it "return receipt requested" (go to post office and ask, they will know) so that you have a record that the school (or district or...) got your letter.

My daughter has done correspondence courses through the American School. My daughter's illness is unpredictable and she has only been treated for some of it for 6 months. We have been able to go to the high school part time. We reviewed online, home schooling and correspondence and because a lot of the online schools need a 4 to 5 hour commitment per day decided on the correspondence classes. It was not recommended for us to do homeschooling because of my own health issues. SO we have done high school and correspondence and she has been able to keep her friendships. I don;t know the age of your child so I can't comment on your situation. If my daughter had been elementary age I probably would have chosen home school for her. Junior through high school is a different animal and it depends on your child, your circumstances and what your child wants to after high school.

Your school district should provide this service at no charge to you. Call the district in the morning and speak with them. You will probably need a registered letter from her physician and maybe even more information.. They will send a teacher once a week and provide the school work/books that your daughter can use.

Refer to Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act. This states that school districts are required to provide a free and appropriate education to each qualified person with a disability regardless of the nature or severity of the disability. I’m not sure whether your child has been diagnosed with a disability or not. In your case, the school may be able to make a 504 plan to help accommodate your daughter, so that she is not excluded. I’m certainly no expert on this. I’d suggest referring to a few websites –
