I am thinking about homeschooling my 11, 6 and 4 year old....what are the rules? What if I decide to send them back to school? What are some good, organizational resources out there? How does this work for high school and then getting kiddos into college?

I believe home schooling three kids would pretty much be a full time job. If you are currently looking for work outside the home and contemplating a separation (as you have stated in other posts) it seems like you've already got a lot on your plate!
Is it because the school your 11 and 6 year old attends is not good?
I am not against home schooling, I just know it's a huge commitment and I think for your kids' sake it would be something to look into after you get your marriage and employment issues settled. Good luck :)

Riley J gave a great answer. Homeschooling in TX is one of the easiest states with the most parental power.

You can come up with your own curriculum or you can find one that is all set already. We just started using A Beka curriculum. There are others ones, but I really like this one so far.

And, remember, homeschooling also means that kids get to be kids more - do their own thing (playing and interests). In public school, a study showed that they are only actually learning 2 hours a day (this was in high school, I think...not elementary). So, we don't spend ALL DAY homeschooling. We love it.

I cannot improve upon Riley J.'s answer! She did a great job for you.

After being in private school for many years, we LOVE homeschooling!

If you decide to do it, I wish you lots of luck and a great adventure.

Go to HSLDA (Home School Legal Defense Association), you will find excellent information and answer to all of your questions. Home schooling is a great responsibility and commitment, lots of work if you want to do it right, but it is worth it and a wonderful experience.
Good luck!
Riley.....kudos for you!!!!

I recommend joining the Austin Area Homeschoolers group. Just google the name. There are monthly support meetings and a ton of members that can help you decide if this is what you want to do.

Good luck!
