I have PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder) and I am looking for some home remedies to help control it. I have 2 children and had my tubes tied after my youngest but my Dr still has me on birth control to help with my symptoms. I take the birth control for 3 months then have a period, etc. The only thing is...........I don't want to be on a pill. I got my tubes tied so I wouldn't have to take a pill every day and it causes me to gain weight (which I don't like either)!. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! A.

Someone on this board told me to take magnesium or eat a handful of almonds during PMS. I eat the almonds during the "blind rage" moments and it really helps!

Try seeing a Holistic or Naturopath doctor.
That way, you will not have to 'guess' at what natural/home remedies to take.... for your symptoms/condition.
Versus, just bc pills.
And they would be more able to address your concerns, via a natural or homepathic route.

I have a book written by a biochemist chiropractic physician and board certified clinical nutritionist. He makes recommendations and lists vitamins and herbs for different ailments. If you would like the list email me and I'll send some info on what he has to say about PMS.

From my naturpathic Dr. to you: almonds, Calcium, Vit D, magnesium and sunlight. Sunlight helps your body regulate itself and deal with calcium. Also, check your nutrition. Are you eating lots of veggies that grow underground? These are called nightshade vegetables and they can be a problem or a help. I cannot eat eggplant or I have big problems. I don't eat any underground veggies except sweet potatoes which actually seem to help - they have natural progestin and the right vitamins. She also has me taking a natural supplement called pulsatilla, I get it at Whole Foods. I have Fibromyalgia along with Endometriosis and it seems to help a ton. Are you consuming caffiene? Its a no-no. Too much salt also. Eat really clean for a week or so before your next period and see if it helps. Tons of water. Keep your water weight down by lots of lemon in your water helps too. Edema (water weight) causes inflammatory processes to be worse.

Exercise is essential. I walk, walk, and walk whenever I feel the discomfort both physically and emotionally. It loosens the pelvic floor muscles. When I am in pain I do the following (I feel like an idiot but it helps): Stand elbow to shoulder length from the wall facing wall. Place arms and hands flat against wall (palms to wall all the way up to the elbows). Keeping feet flat, press your pelvis into the wall slowly and hold. This stretches the muscles of the pelvis and thighs as well as the ligament that goes from the uterus to the hip bones. Crazy but works extremely well. Good luck. Birth control isn't the only answer. Push your Dr. for other options if you dont have luck with homeopathy.

I talked about this with my ob/gyn recently and she said to be sure that I'm getting enough calcium and Vitamin D.
