So What Happened?

First off I want to say Thank You to Geneva for the kind words and support.
O asked this question for support-not to be bashed-and for those who say they work their butts off-who said we didnot? You don't know our situation and the circumstances behind why we lost our house nor is it any of your buisness and did I say anything like we did not pay our mortgage-nope I sure didn't. Everybody has different circumstance and why I am sure there are people who lost their house due to being careless. Man people are so quick to judge and you don't even know the whole story. Guess you never heard you should never judge a book by it's cover. Once again thanks for the kind words and support from those of you who have hearts.

To other posters on this thread - I understand your anger at the way our government is managing the housing debacle, and the way our banks screwed us over to begin with by knowingly lending to those who were a poor risk, and how your tax dollars are being used. That said, if you're venting at L., you're venting at the wrong person. I doubt that she created the government program which, regardless of your feelings, she is legally allowed to use.

Gather your righteous anger, then call or write all your representatives and senators and the president's office and speak your mind. Call them every day. Ask them what they, individually, are doing to work on the problem. Write letters to the editor. If you have the resources, go to DC and show up on your elected representatives' threshold. (You'd be amazed at how much showing up in person forces them to pay attention.)

It is possible that L. has been irresponsible. But you don't know that. People land in foreclosure for a lot of reasons, including things like a death in the family, unexpected loss of a job, or a medical disaster - things they cannot help. You do not know her situation, so please don't rush to judgment. Do not take your ire out on her. Use it to aim for the overpaid idiots who have created the system that uses your tax money to pay for the screw-ups of others.

No, I don't have experience with it, but I found some facts, if that's what you're looking for:
http://www.homeagainnevada.gov/about/

Don't let people make you feel badly about needing/accepting help. Seems you're not alone. People might be better off directing their focus to corporate welfare:
"The top five banks -- JPMorgan, Bank of America, Citigroup, Wells Fargo, and Goldman Sachs - - account for $64 billion of the total subsidy, an amount roughly equal to their typical annual profits.

In other words, the banks occupying the commanding heights of the U.S. financial industry -- with almost $9 trillion in assets, more than half the size of the U.S. economy -- would just about break even in the absence of corporate welfare.

In large part, the profits they report are essentially transfers from taxpayers to their shareholders."

Good luck to you!

L.:

Jo W said it all.

The program, while "FREE" to you - is my tax dollars (or my mortgage dollars - seeing how the monies are from the $25 billion federal-state settlement with the nation’s five largest mortgage servicers) to help you.

Basically - the government is taking money from people who worked their butts off and paid their mortgages and giving it those who didn't.

I'm sorry you are in over your head.

Misplaced anger can be so frustrating. When times get tough the little guys turn on each other. I work hard, have earned all I have, never taken a penny from the government and I still don't judge you for seeking help in this way.

One and done is exactly right, taxpayers are subsidizing the very banks that hold all those mortgages and foreclosed properties, a fact that seems to escape some people.

You will find a lot of people on this board who are really angry about any social programs in general. They will attack the person who needs help, assume they are freeloaders and get angry that our government provides social safety nets.

For those unfamiliar as I was about this program below is a link to an article. Sounds like an effort to help American families get back on their feet after the biggest financial meltdown since the great depression. Helping out the little guy was good enough for FDR and it's good enough for me.

Good luck, I can only imagine how difficult it must be to loose your home, hopefully this program will help your family get back on it's feet as I'm sure it is intended to do.

People need to understand how to manage their money - and that whole situation when the housing stuff started did not help! They put people into financial situations they knew they could not sustain! I feel sorry for the ones that tried to understand and do the right thing. (the others - not to much) People need to know what they can really afford - as in no more than 1/4 of your DISPOSABLE monthly income for house payment (and years back, they tried to tell me I could go to 36% - of gross! NOT!)

All I can say to L. and those like her that look at these programs is to be careful you aren't jumping from the frying pan into the fire - I just am not sure of these things and remember reading feedback about one of these type of programs that basically the gov would then know your every dollar and almost be able to tell you what you were allowed to do with it (geezzz - just thinking, we are getting way to close to that now anyway....)
