Holiday Table Ideas

My ladies group will host a Christmas Tea this year. It is up to the members to 'host' a table. The hostess will set up/dress a table any way they want (plastic, paper or china, platic covers, linen, overlays, etc. - we choose). My daughter and I will be hosting two. She (age 16) wants hers to be Christmas with a little punk added in (I guess that's what the teens like today). For me...I want something more than casual, but not formal (is that considered elegant?). So...Mamas - I need ideas! I figure if I start off early enough - I will have it ready to roll. I want to steer away from the bold red and green...which I don't mind - I'd add silver or gold to that. I was also thinking of a medium shade of blue with silver? What about centerpieces? I will either host a Round of 10 or a Rectangle of 8. I also need ideas about place settings (like where I can find inexpensive holiday tableware or colors that might work for other dinners at home). I've seen centerpieces with a very large vase with different sizes of round ornaments inside (I've seen multi-colored ones and specific color themes). What about a large poinsetta in the center and baby poinsettas around the big one (the pots would be wrapped in pretty ribbons), so at the end of the evening - everyone at my table can take one. Last year, one of our hostess' made angels with paper wings, tuille and a Hershey's kiss (very cute).
ANY ideas are welcomed!!! I'm excited as this is my first year hosting a table and even more excited my teenager wants one too.

What can I do next?

I used to have a Christmas party every year and one year for my food table I got several different sizes of pots and bowls. Flipped them over. Now take Christmas lights( Blue and white are pretty) and weave the lights all around pots and bowls. Then take clear garbage bags and put over pots and bowls. Then place your stuff on the surface it creates. Then place random Christmas ornaments where needed. I received many complements!!! Good luck!!!:)

I love the blue and silver idea. What about a pretty clear glass bowl with blue and silver ornaments of varying sizes in it and streamers of blue and silver ribbon going from the bowl down the table to each place. Use a white table cloth and see if you can find blue and/or silver confetti to sprinkle over it.

You can find inexpensive but pretty things at Garden Ridge.

I've seen a home decorated in white, silver and icey blue with snow flakes...very elegant and understated. A snowman theme is also cute and there are lots of them out there.

Hello! Whatever you decide to do, it will simply be wonderful! You have the greatest attitude about life, and I'm going to incorporate your line into my earthly journey ..."Thanking God daily for all the trials I go through, for if these are my only worries - I have no worries at all!" I love it, I love it! Good luck with your party, and continue to have that positive attitude!

I am not creative at all, but I can copy anything!! That said, I have relied on the Southern Living Christmas Book for the last several years to give me ideas. It has been a wonderful resource. As a "happy" for your guests, I would recommend putting a large nail at each place setting with the poem "The Christmas Nail" attached on a card. You can probably find the poem on line. I did this at an open house I hosted, and the guests loved it. The nail and poem become a Christmas ornament to hang on the tree as a reminder of Christ's sacrifice.

I don't know if you have a Old Time Pottery near by, but they always have dishes at a reasonable price. They have different sets and a lot of clear dishes that you could always paint on the underside with blue and white to match your decor. Just pick up glass paint from a hobby store, it's real easy. Blue and Silver are always elegant colors and if your daughter wants something different, they have a lot of new christmas items in pink and lime green. It's different. Have fun and enjoy.
