My daughter had something like this recently. It lasted a few days and then was gone. I know some other moms that have gone thru the same thing and it was never figured out. We have named it the mystery fever.
Ok I'm worried about a friends baby. He is about 4-5 months old. He seems to be acting normal enough. But his fever keeps spiking up in the 105. range. He's been in the hospital since Sunday because of this. They have yet to figure out what is wrong with him.
What I'm asking for is maybe someone has dealt with something like this?? Any ideas? The doctors seem to be baffled at this point. Mothers are the next best thing! Please help, I'm concerned for the baby!!
Thank you everyone for the thoughts.... He did have a strep test done, and a spinal. Along with all the normal blood work... No answers. I just got word that he is home now and have yet to figure out what is/was wrong with him!

My youngest daughter was just shy of two weeks old when she suddenly got a high fever like this. She was hospitalized for about a week. They did blood work and a spinal tap. She ended up having viral meningitis. Hopefully this can be of some help to your friend. I wish her luck.
I can tell you that I went through exactly this when my 4 year old was a baby. She was about 3 weeks old and she spiked at 106. I sat in childrens hospital (in buffalo) for 4 whole days with her, spinal tap, urine test, blood test...etc etc...nothing! They pumped her with a rotation of anitbiotics for 4 days and finally just sent us home. It was some sort of virus, they are sure, but which one, who knows?
Be careful and keep an eye on baby's weight gain...for the next few months (2-6th month of age), my daughter did not put on a single ounce of weight. She is now 4 and wears 2T clothes, I am told that as long as she gains, there isn't a problem, but don't expect her to catch up to the size of other kids her age.
To this day, when she gets a fever, it's always high, but is treated well with motrin and tylenol. Other than that, she's a happy healthy 4 year old. Best wishes!

Hi M.,
My brother and sister in law just went through this same thing last month with their baby. She was 4mths old and kept spiking a fever. She was in the hospital for almost a week and the doctors ran test after test after test with everything coming back normal or negative. They never did figure out why she kept spiking a fever and after about a week it all stopped and she has been perfectly fine since. They checked her for the roto virus, infections, and anything else they could think of but never did figure out what was causing her to run fevers or be lethargic. Tell your friend to keep the faith and hopefully her baby will come through it unscathed as well. Good luck and God bless.
M.,
My youngest sister's first daughter suffered from this 8 years ago. Her fevers would send her into seizures. They got to 106. They never were able to figure it out. But, my sister was told that your body has a fever because it is trying to fight off something. For my sister she made some drastic changes. First, she took in some therapeutic oils to the hosp. and just waved them under her daughters nose, hoping the molecules would travel up in her glands and begin to heal. Within 2 days, she was out of ICU and on a regular floor, 1 day later she was home. At home she switched all of her cleaning products and laundry products to ones that were natural and with out chemicals, then just this year when her 10yr young baby got her menstrual cycle, show made the switch to Organic/natural foods. Morgan has 2 more "episodes" while she was transitioning into getting all the chemicals out of the house, but happy to say she has not experienced it for 6 years now. The doctors are still baffled. Both I and my sister have taken new steps into nutrition and health supplements. We have a greater appreciation for what nature provides us. I am not sure if that will help you or not, but I felt compelled to share the experience with you.

M., no my kids haven;t had that much of a high fever as infants but have as toddlers and it usually was related to strep throat. have they done blood work to check for bacterial infections? strep? ear infections etc.
i am sorry you're friend is going through this. I hope they will find out fast what is going on.
