So I'm at a loss right now. My 10 year old daughter has had a fever for 4 days now ranging from 104 to 99. Well here is the catch. She only has the fever at night and in the morning and the only other symptom she has is a really bad headache. She still has an appetite and she is still playing and acting normal. I can't figure it out????? She has never been "sick" like this before.

What can I do next?

Take her to the doctor. 4 days of a fever means infection of some kind.

When we're asleep our bodies are at rest from moving, thinking, planning, and every little thing we're doing. It puts all the resources to being awake and doing stuff, even when we're sitting still doing nothing but watching TV it's working to regulate blood pressure, heart rate, processing our environment, etc....

When we go to sleep our body works to fight off disease, repair injuries, and work through our subconscious issues by dreaming.

Fevers often happen during the nighttime hours because that's when it's fighting the hardest thereby heating the body up. It's a fight.

I would probably, since it's been a couple of days now, take her to the doc and perhaps get blood drawn for a CBC to see how elevated her white cells are. If they are elevated that means she's fighting off an infection somewhere and could use a little help from an antibiotic.

She needs to see a Dr.

It is normal to have fluctuations when fighting off an infection but 104 is TOO high to just ignore. A temp of 104, especially consistently, is NOT normal.

Please take her to the Dr. and get a diagnosis so she can feel better and be ready for school.

Welcome to mamapedia!!

I'm sorry - if my child had a fever of 104 for more than 4 hours and wouldn't come down with the help of a fever reducer? I would be taking their cute little butt to the doctor's.

Headaches and fever combined? Usually means dehydration. DO the "pinch test" - if you pinch (NOT HARD) the skin on the top of her hand and it stays up? Your daughter is dehydrated.

Please take her to an urgent care near you.

She's fighting something off but can't get ahead of it. Fevers often fluctuate during the day. The 99-100.5 range is nothing, but the 104 is obviously a sign of a problem. I'd give her something for the high fever (not the low) and the bad headache, push fluids, have her rest more than normal, and have her seen on Monday. They'll probably test for a few things and otherwise say "viral" if they can't find anything better.
