Hemorrhoids - Help! - Mount Prospect,IL

I just delivered a baby a week ago and have horrible hemorrhoids that are going to require surgery at some point. I was wondering if anyone has any doctor recommendations as well as any guidance on when I should get them taken care of, etc. They are extremely painful! A doctor that is located in the northwest suburbs would be ideal, but I would be willing to travel as well. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi E.:

My first advice - give them time! I had absolutely horrible issues with hemorrhoids after delivery. They were so painful and constantly throbbing that I literally could not sleep. It was awful and they seemed to last for months, until I finally reached out to my doc for advise. I remember the "roids" way more than even the labor pains! So, here is what I did. Soak in the tub or use a "sitz bath" twice a day (I know, easier said than done). Second, use only Tucks Medicated Pads after you go to the bathroom. They are very soothing. Try dabbing and not rubbing. Lastly, my doctor prescribed a gel that I applied right on to the problem area (I used cotton pads to apply), three times per day. Here is what the prescription reads: TAC 0.1%: Lidocaine 5% 1:1 ointment It worked like a charm. Good luck!

I have had this surgery (when I was 8 months pregnant!) This surgery is something to be avoided like the plague. Its definitely something to consider long and hard before you do it. I know that hemorrhoids are painful and icky but this surgery and the post op was the most painful thing I have ever experienced and that includes labor. Remember: this is not an area of your body that you can close for the season and then reopen when you're better. All the pain meds you will take post-op, and believe me you will need strong strong pain meds, will make you constipated. Think of the worse case of constipation you ever had and then imagine that and the ensuing events occurring in the presence of open suture lines. Need I say more? If you are convinced that you must have this done find a surgeon that has done a lot of these procedures. That is the best way to get the best result. Try not to go for convenience but find someone who knows what they're doing. Ask about the pain aspect of this and what you can do to minimize constipation etc. Good luck to you!

This is going to sound incredibly weird. I have gotten hemorrhoids several times including after both my sons were born and they have always gone away with time. My mother just had a really bad one for the first time and was on-line researching treatments. She found one that said to sleep with the inside of a banana peel on the hemorrhoid. She tried it and it worked. Sounds like the strangest thing, but worth a try.

I have heard the same as the PP about the Vicks Vaporub. My husband gets hemorrhoids a couple times a year due to stress, but they've never been bad enough to need surgery. Tucks and a prescription suppository have helped him before. But I have heard from others the Vicks suggestion. He has yet to try it.
Good luck! I can't imagine the pain, but I can imagine you are dealing with A LOT since the new baby. Sorry no suggestions on the doctor.

I know this sounds weird but I have 2 relatives that tell me they avoided surgery by using Vick's Vaporub on hemorrhoids.
