hemorrhoids...I Know They're Gross, but Help!!

It's been a week and a half since I had my nine and a half pound son and the hemorrhoids still hurt so bad I can't stand for more than five minutes and even sitting is sometimes painful. I got a prescription cream from my doctor with hydrocortisone and lidocaine and it still doesn't keep it from hurting. I've gotten some with every baby but it's never been this bad before or lasted this long. Am I doing something wrong? My mom left three days ago and my husband has to go back to work Monday and I'll be taking care of all five kids myself again. How do I get them to go away? Is there a treatment that's worked for anyone else? Are there exercises I can do? Should I be trying to get back to my normal routine even though it hurts or should I tr to find some help and stay in bed for a day or two? How long have they lasted for you? Any advice would greatly be appreciated. Thank you.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for sharing everyone. The sitz baths really helped a lot more than I was expecting. For some reason even though I've been told to do them with every pregnancy I thought they were care for the stitches from tearing and so since my stitches weren't a problem I didn't do them this time and I also wasn't using the peri bottle when I went to the bathroom, so I think a combination of things led to them getting bad and I just had to actually start caring for myself (go figure) and it got better pretty quickly. Thanks again.

Hi A.,
COngrats on the arrival of the baby. I had a bad case of them when I had both of my children. The 1st time was the worse of the two. I used tucks and took warm bath with epson salt, my father gave me that idea. That help along with the prescription cream and the cooling preperation H. The epson salt hot bath was a great thing. Warm water was they key. They eventually went away but it did take time. Another thing my father told me was when I did sit down, to sit on a donut pillow or a sock. I know it sounded sick but it worked as well. I hope this helps and good luck!

Hi A.,
Sorry for the pain!! I've been there before. Now my question for you is have you had this looked at by a butt doctor. I am not kidding!! I had severe pain in that area after I had my twins and it turned out to be a fisher which is a cut in that area that did not heal correctly. The way I got rid of the pain was by doing sits baths in the tub for about a half an hour for 3 times a day for 2 weeks. I had to put neosporin on the area also to keep it cleaned. Yes, it hurt like hell but after the 2 weeks I was fine. The sits baths really helped with healing the wound. Try that and see if it helps.
Good luck

Okay, it was a while ago, but when I had my 9+lb baby and got hemorrhoids, someone suggested a suppository that REALLY worked. It was a prescription, and I can't remember what it was called, but how many can there be, right? I also used Tucs, but ask your Dr. for a prescription for the suppositories. It beats lancing! Congrats though!

A.!!
I can totally relate. I had a fissure 5 years ago which is in the hemmorhoid category. It basically is a deep wound in your anus. I was in ssooooooooo much pain that i couldn't even have a bowel movement. I had to basically sit on ice before I went and that didn't even help!!I ended up having surgery which for you is not the case. You just have hemmorhoids from giving birth.

Now what I would recommend is continue using that preparationH(hydrocortisone ointment). Try to use it a few times during the day. Also, I would recommend getting Benefiber. It is a clear liquid that you can put in your water or juice and helps with having easier and soft bowel movements. They sell it at Walgreens, Target, etc. Try to eat more fiber like Fiber one cereal(that really helped me) and fruits. Stay away from bananas because they will constipate you.

I hope this helps. Hang in there. They are not forever, but they will take a little time to heal if you take care of them that way.

Have a great Easter and let me know how you are.

Congrats on the new baby!!! Sorry to hear about your problem. I have 4 children and had difficulty after each. I used the Tucks pads and I also took sitz baths. I had a fissure with my first son and it had to be surgically removed and in the hospital is when I learned about sitz baths. You fill your tub(only a few inches deep) with water as hot as you can stand and just sit in it for a while. Make sure not to make the water so hot you burn your skin. You would not believe that it works, but it is amazing!!!! Between the creams, tucks pads and the sitz baths I was back to new after each kid in just a few days. I don't know why they don't tell every new mom about this after giving birth.

Hi A., I know exactly what you are feeling. While I was pregnant with my daughter I was in so much pain from hemorrhoids that I had to go and have one of them lanced. Its a outpatient procedure where they cut and drain it. What a relief that was! If nothing else helps, talk to your doctor about that.
Good luck and Congratulations on the new little one!

Congrats on the new baby!!! my 2 month old isn't 9.5 lbs yet :) although she was a month + early and went home at 5# 4 oz.

I am soooo sorry to hear about the 'roids. I don't have any, but my sister in law did. her's required surgery. have you asked your doctor if there is the possibility that yours could be operated on? your husband would be allowed time from work under FMLA to care for the kids while you recovered.

I would say if you are truly that uncomfortable - bring it up to your docs and tell them how bad it is this time. don't suffer if you dont have to.

Feed better soon, and a huuuuge congrats on the new baby :)
