The others are so right. Boys can be much harder to potty train and will take longer. Sometimes they just don't want to put a toy down for fear someone else will get it before they get back; so, I always tell the child needing to go potty to hand me their toy and I'll hold it for them until they get back, LOL! That has worked wonders.

The suggestion of a ring in the potty works, too. We, also, let them toss a few Cheerios in the potty for them to try to "dunk" with their stream. Different strokes for different folks.....LOL!

Don't give up! Boys are hard to train. My boy just turned four this month and he finally got "pee-pee" trained during the summer, and we almost have mastered the "#2 part". What worked for my little guy was finally going cold turkey with wearing underware. If he had a pull-up on he would always go in it. Now the first few days in underware, he would hold it almost all day. Mine also seemed resistant to training with me- he would do better with my husband & especially great with Grandma. He spent a few days with Grandma while I worked and she was the one that really got him potty trained. I did buy a video from Amazon called "Potty Power". It is kind of silly, but he really liked it and it really helped encourage the potty. We still have him in a pull-up at night & I just bought an awesome cover that goes over the bed from Leaps and Bounds (on-line). It covers the entire area they sleep so now we are going to start working on staying dry through the night. This way if he has an accident, I just quickly pull this cover off and don't have to change the entire bed. Good Luck - it will happen!

When my son was 3 he was the same way. i finnally had him wear NO underpants whatsoever, with just a longer shirt (I know its very girly like) Yes, u have to watch them more closely, for signs of "potty emergency" so u don't have puddles all over the floor. But they usually arn't comfortable just squating anywhere just yet. He couldn't stand the thought of messing on himself like that and would run to the pot every time. In just a few weeks we were done training. Good luck. I'm about to be training my twin boys next, wish me luck!!!!! :)

There is a book called Road To Independence by Brenda M. Batts, a short little read published in 2004 that you may be interested in getting. I think I got mine off of Amazon.com. It was really written for children with special needs, but the section about potty training is great for all kids! Most children that Brenda Batts trains with her method are trained in 4 days or under, she says (and those are children with special needs). You might try it and definitely follow all the steps she recommends.

BTW, my son was 3 years, 3 months before he trained and that was with my lead/prodding- not his. He definitely did not exhibit all the readiness signs everyone talks about even. But he got it immediately that time. That was our 3rd attempt. He wasn't trained with the Batts method though. I didn't know about it then.

Good Luck!

Did you try putting cherrios in the potty to use at targets? It is fun for boys to have "target practice". I did a reward system with my nephews. Each time they used they potty, they were rewarded. We would go to the movies or get a toy. We used the cherrios and they actually sell targets that stick to the bottom of the toilet for added fun.

I hope this helps you a bit. Don't push. Some children are not ready until later. They will do it when their bladders are mature. My one nephew is four and he still wears pull ups at night because he can't sleep through the night without accidents. The other is five and half and has been potty trained since he has been two. Just depends on the kid. My daughter, 18 months is starting to train.

This sounds weird, but put a round ring in the toilet and let him try to pin in the hole. It will be fun for him and he will learn

Boys especially have a harder time potty training. My nephew Cason was three in August and he knows that he is wet or has poopy and he tells his mom "gag a maggit". But, he has no interest in the potty.

My son was almost 4 before being potty trained; but he did have encopresses which didn't help matters. Boys just take longer. They are too busy to take time out.

My son patty trained about 3 and 1/2yrs old. Does he dry diaper about at least one hour everyday? If so he is ready to potty training. if his diaper is always wet he is not ready yet. What I did with my son is use cheerios. before he goes to toilet I grab cheerios and put inside potty. He stand up by potty and splash it like game. Maybe use color cheerio and tell him what color he wants to splash.
