So, I am 9 weeks pregnant (we are very excited!)and the morning sickness has hit full force. It is just a struggle to get up and moving in the morning. I have a very active 2 year old boy and work full time so i dont have time to rest much. My morning sickness is worse this time than with my son. With him i was queasy most of the day but controllable, this time i spend most of the morning in the bathroom thowing up. Then im still nausaus most of the day. i feel ok on and off during the day but it is really hard to concentrate and get things done when im so sick feeling and tired. I know this is part of the deal and that is fine because at least i know things are going good but im just wondering if you other moms have any tips of things you have tried to help ease the morning sickness a bit so i dont struggle quite so much during the day. Im hopeing i will feel a little better in a few weeks, but any tips of things that may help till then would be greatly appreciated. thanks!
I am first time mom-to-be and am 25 weeks pregnant. I also had the problem of nausea and morning sickness till I was almost 14 weeks pregnant. I can very well understand how you might be feeling. But there was one thing I did as the first thing in the morning and it kind of gave a lot of relief. Idrank atleast 2 glasses of water as soon as i woke up and then threw up by force. It feels disgusting when you do this voluntarily, but trust me you dont have to worry about throwing up for the rest of the day. Do try this, you will feel a lot better.
Hope you feel better soon.

Another vote for Zofran. Like others have said, there is no reason why you should suffer, especially when you have a 2-yr old to take care of. I was extremely sick w/ all 3 of my pregnancies and the only thing that helped was Zofran, I was able to at least function and be somewhat normal. None of the other remedies worked for me (Vitamin B6, crackers, etc.) Good luck w/ baby #2! It's all worth it in the end!:)

Hi T.,
I feel for you. I was terribly sick with both my daughters---the second one much more than the first. I ended up getting some medication to help me, but other things that worked included----eating many small meals and snacks throughout the day and chewing gum constantly. The gum really helped the general nausea and get my mind/tummy off of it. Best of luck to you----it will get better.

I ate a lot of ginger, it's a natural nausea reliever. You can get ginger chews at Trader Joes in a bag or sometimes in the grocery aisle in a green box. You can grind fresh ginger and pour hot water over it for tea (I add a little sugar). The relief doesn't last all day but it gave me enough time to get a meal down so I had energy. Another thing I learned was that I just needed to eat my way through it. I was nauseated a lot but I found that when I did eat I felt a bit better. Your body does need the food so I just had to grin and bear it and find foods that I could stand to put in my mouth even though eating was the last thing I wanted to do. Good luck and hopefully it will pass soon.
My Dr prescribed me Zofran and that was my life saver. I don't know how I would have gotten through the "all day sickness" without it. Of course it wasn't a magic pill, I still felt nauseated at times but it made me be able to keep food down. I lost about 35 pounds during the first trimester so I *had* to do something and I am glad I did. The other thing I noticed that helped was eating little meals more often throughout the day. As long as I kept something in my stomach and also didn't eat too much at one sitting, I did better. Good luck!!

A few tricks that worked for me:
begin and end your day with half a bagel loaded with peanut butter.
Eat constantly - snack all day and it will keep your energy up.
eat more frequent smaller meals during the day - be sure to include something high protein - eggs, PB, etc
eat before getting out of bed if possible
the unisom and B6 at bed time also help - a good nights sleep does wonders.
and switch to the chewable children's vitamin
Good Luck! I had all-day-and-night sickness with both my pregnancies from week 7 until 25-27 weeks. it's a sign of a healthy pregnancy!

Sounds far fetched but you can buy a wrist band in the pharmacy, it has kinda of like a button on on side that works like acupressure, it really does work. Also ginger tea, I don't have a recipe anymore but prob can find one on line. Got four pregnancys myself so I can tell you these worked for me. Give em a try.

HA! You sound exactly like me! I got TWO girls out of the deal!!! :)
Vitamin B6 is supposed to help. I liked preggy pop drops when I was pregnant with my son, but they didn't help at all with the twins. I ended up going on zofran.
Good luck!

I know you've gotten a lot of responses and some have already suggested Zofran, but I just want to really stress to get Zofran!!!!!!! There's no need to suffer and Zofran is perfectly safe. I used it for 5 months with both of my pregnancies.

Powdered donuts, chocolate milk and bananas worked for me. I ate Activia yogurt, and that seemed to help, too. I took 25 mg each of vitamin B6 and unisom before bed, which made it easier to get out of bed in the morning because I didn't feel like throwing up right away. I did get a prescription to zofran, and went from throwing up three or more times a day to only once or none. I feel your pain---the 24/7 nausea is not fun.

A friend gave me motion sickness bracelets they had bought at Snyder's for like $5. These were cotton little bracelets that had a plastic button that would rest on my wrist (a pressure point). As long as I wore these, I wasn't queasy but as soon as I'd lift them off my wrist, nausea would come. Not sure if this will help you but it was great for my first 12 weeks. Good luck!

Peppermint, ginger & lemon are all natural ways to relive nausea. Try keeping some mints by your bed & pop one in your mouth before you get up & start moving around. Mint tea was a life saver for me.

Lots of protein can make a big difference. Things like eggs (hardboiled are easy), meat, peanut butter. Try to take in 100g of protein a day and have it steadily spread out through the day. Especially try to have a high protein snack at bedtime and another first thing when you get up. My midwives suggested this and it worked well for me.
Good luck.

I have heard to have crackers sitting by your bed and eat them before you get up and about. Eat many small meals (snacks)a day instead of 3 big ones.

Hi T., and congrats on the new little one. What helped me is eating a couple of crackers before I got out of bed. And getting up slowly was the key too. I also had pretzels and water throughout the day, and that seemed to help a lot. Eating small amounts during the day helps too. Also warm tea. Well I hope this helps.

Hello!
I feel ya huney! Iam 7 weeks with our 5th child and unlike all my other pregnancies luckily iam just a lil neusea! But what I do this time & the other times is..... 1.set your alarm bout half hour before you usually get up! Lay in bed try to wake up instead of just jumping right out of bed. 2. My safety net is a box of saltine crackers & a soda next to my bed. I know doctors say no soda but it helps me! 3. It small meals thru out the day instead of large meals 3 or 4 times a day! I eat crackers, dry cereal, pop tarts, fruit, jello any thing that's small and frequent. The main thing to not feeling worse & worse as the morning sickness continues is to stay hydrated! If you get dehydrated you will end up in the hospital feeling way worse :)
Good luck hun!! & remember morning sickness only last til the 14 week usually! It does get better & way worth it in the end :)

Everyone has their funny little thing that works for them. For me, it's A&W root beer. I was incredibly sick with my first for five months, throwing up an average of 6-10 times a day on a good day. I think the only things I always kept down were pizza and Taco Bell burritos. I don't know why. you just have to keep trying different things until you find what works for you. Good luck!

Believe it or not, the only thing that worked for me was acupuncture. It was painless and relaxing actually, and it masked symptoms for several days - with no nausea at all! I felt like I had my life back, including my energy and my appetite. I went through Health Parnters. My sister had severe morning sickness too and received a prescription medication that helped her a lot. You could inquire with your doctor.

I am so slow, you're probably in your second trimester by now! If you are still needing help and not wanting to take a drug that may have scary effects I wanted to add one more line of thought. It comes from a family herbalist named Shonda Parker and I think it may be very smart. She explains how the body, upon finding itself pregnant, gets very busy detoxifying, and that is why we feel so sick. So she recommends herbs that support the liver. Unfortunately, I can't remember which ones they are, but you could maybe google that or see if you can find her book "The Naturally Healthy Pregnancy". I think it would be a great help.

Have crackers or something light next to the bed to eat before you even get up. Eat lots of small meals through out the day instead of 3 large ones. Try Preggie Pops or Quessy Drops and Vitamin B6. I thought that it really helped to drink cold water as well. Well best of luck and I hope you are feeling better soon:)

HI T.
Oh how fun!!
Say try taking an omega 3 fatty acid-- a good one.
It should melt a reg. old fashion styrofoam cup with hot water in it if it's good.
You baby depletes your stores for fetal brain development and some of the responses from women are headaches and nausea-- ie the morning sickness stuff.
We have all our pregnant clients take that and it's amazing to see the energy differences.
It takes almost 3 years to replenish your stores post baby if you don't use supplements.
The deficiency may also allude to PPD in the mom's as it's vital for brain/organ health. The studies are starting to show this.
S0- hang in there and give it a shot-- hard to get in food (salmon, wild seafood you're limited in eating, flax good unless you don't open the grain)

What helped me was those Sea-Bands bracelets (also used for motion sickness). They work by putting pressure on a specific pressure point on the inside of your wrist thought to affect nausea. Some women have luck with them; others don't. But they're inexpensive and available most anywhere (I got mine at Target--just ask the pharmacist). Hope you feel better soon!

Hi T.! I feel your pain! I had SEVERE morning sickness for most of both pregnancies.
Sea Bands work very well. They are the product that Maaike was recommending.
Also, you can try taking 1/2 of a Unisom pill with a vitamin B6 before bed. It works wonders! And it's safe!
Congratulations!
EDIT*** A word about Zofran. It's not approved for pregnancy and can cause birth defects. My has 3 children, she took Zofran for 2 pregnancies, both kids from those pregnancies have significant mental delays. Please use caution! My OB wouldn't even prescribe Zofran unless the baby or mom were in danger of malnourishment.

Hi T.,
This may sound weird to you, but it worked wonders for me. I was super sick with my son and was determined to avoid being that sick this time. So, what I did was as soon as I would wake up I would drink a Slim fast optima. They have a lot of protein in them and they don't taste too shabby. Then, once that settled in my tummy I would eat peanut butter toast or something to that effect for breakfast. I very seldomly would throw up after I started doing this. I would feel a little nauseous in the morning, but it usually went away. When I got pregnant this time around, my son was only 9 months, so I understand not being able to rest or stay in bed.
Congratulations on your pregnancy and good luck!

Crackers and No to morning sickness tea definitely helps to take nausea away. The tea has a very mild taste. I did not have to add anything in it (sugar, cream). Just be sure not to steep it too long as it can get quite strong... unless, you like really strong tea. I would recommend giving this tea a try.

I had really bad "all day sickness" with my third baby. I ate crackers in bed before I got up. I also changed from the pre-natal vitamin to Flinstone vitamins. The pre-natal vitamins can be quite hard on a stomach because of all the iron. I also took B-Natal vitamin B6 lozenge twice a day. My morning scikness became so bad that the doctor prescribed Phenergan. It worked really well, but makes you really sleepy, so I couldn't take it while I was at work. I hope you feel better and hang in there is will subside soon!

Zofran! I lost 15 pounds in the first trimester with each of my three pregnancies (I'm thin the way it is so it was not a good situation). Zofran is ALL that helped me. With our first, I ended up on a medical leave for 12 weeks. Morning sickness is something that I ended up having to live with for at least 7 months each time, but the Zofran made it at least bearable! Good luck – I know all too well just how horrible it can be. And yes, there are a lot of good tips and tricks out there too. They just did nothing to combat my nausea, vomiting and subsequent weight loss. But, yes, I have three beautiful children, and am considering one more!

What worked for me was to slowly sip a can of flat Coke all morning, and by lunch time I could eat something that would stay down. I don't even like Coke (I'm a Diet Coke girl), but it tasted so good to me. It would take me at 3-4 hours to drink the can.

T. - you've gotten some great advice so far! I am currently on my 2nd pregnancy and awaiting the nausea.....it was there full-on 24/7 for my first pregnancy, so I'm waiting! But I found a few things that helped a ton with my first that I will try right away with this one - my hubby would bring me Corn Flakes in bed each morning and I would eat it before even moving at all and then let it settle for about 30 minutes. At night, I took the half-Unisom and Vitamin B-6. I would also take another Vitamin B-6 in the morning (not the Unisom). I found that breath mints throughout the day helped (always having something in my mouth), and ate several small meals throughout the day too. Best of luck and CONGRATS!
