Help with Morning Sickness - Spring,TX

Hi, I am in my ninth week of pregnancy and very sick. When I was sick with my other pregnancies I tried eating frequent small meals, eating soda crackers when just getting out of bed in the morning, eating ginger (which I later heard from my ob/gyn causes miscarriages with some people--yikes!), sucking on lemons (which works but kills the teeth), and tons of other things but have not found anything effective. I know I could ask for medication but would prefer to find another route--I don't like to take even Tylenol when I'm pregnant. Has anybody found anything safe to ease morning sickness? Thank you!!! S.

What can I do next?

I know you said you don't want to take medication but you also don't want to get dehydrated and end up in the hospital. If it gets to NOTHING working you may want to try a phenegran suppository.Yes I know yuk , hey better than ending up worse off. Good luck and remember this too will pass. It's hard to GLOW when you feel green.... :)

Hello S.! Congrat's on baby #4. Believe it or not, a coke icee helped with my morning sickness on my first child - just sip slowly. With my second one it was mild peppermints. Good luck!

Hello S., I understand your situation I didn't like taking any medications while I was pregnant. However the peppermints work good but what really worked for me was Peanut Butter. I kept a jar of peanut butter in my desk at work and in my purse with a spoon. When ever I was nauseaed I would just spoon some peanut butter out and at it just like that, it really worked for me. Good Luck!!! I hope it works.

I've found that applesauce works well for me - but it has to be the sour Granny Smith kind.

On the lemon idea...I bought just some organic lemon juice, unsweetened, and put a little amount in a glass of water and sipped on that. It helped alot.
Eating some crackers before getting up from bed helped too. Have some water handy for your dry mouth.
I'm sorry you are going through this. I didn't have much of any nausea with my second pregnancy.
Best wishes.

I know how you feel, I tried everything to get myself to feeling better. I am 33 weeks pregnant and the first 3 months of this pregnancy I was sick as a dog. I lost 10 pounds and then stopped loosing and didn't gain anything for weeks. I was finally put on phenagren (spelling?). It helped with the throwing up but it made me really sleepy. I had a hard time staying awake, and I have three other kids to take care of so I had to stop taking it. All I could do was eat some crackers before getting out of bed and then go throw up and eat small meals all day long. As long as I was eating something then I wasn't throwing up, but I had the worse car sick feeling in the world all day long no matter what I did. But it finally went away and now everything is fine except for the fact that I am about to have baby and I am as huge as a house and can't move around like I want to. LOL Just remember that the morning sickness is a good sign. I have heard that if you have morning sickness then you have a better chance of not miscarrying. I wasn't sick at all with the pregnancy before this one and I lost the baby. With all my other pregnancies, I have been sick as a dog. But I still think this one has been the worse sickness. Good Luck and hopefully it will stop soon.

Congratulations on your upcoming addition. I used Almond Tea made by Celestial Seasoning. I tried other brands but they did not help. I kept it made up in the fridge with a little equal in it. You can put it in the microwave to warm it up if you like hot tea or drink it cold. You need to play with the strength to suit your taste.

Hope this helps,
C.

I've had 4 children. With the 1st and the 4th, my morning sickness was horrible! What worked for me was: taking my prenatal vitamin at night, and during the day, in addition to nibbling on saltines, was gatoraide! It really helped me alot! Good Luck!

yuk, the medicine they give you for morning sickness that it. I got sick just trying to take it, it has a horrible taste. Well you know whats in that med is a whole lot of vitamin B's so if you dont want to have to take another vitamin try those vita splashs the one with the vitamin b's maybe the grape flavor I'm not sure. Vitamin B is needed for formation of all our organs so the baby takes alot of vitamin B from mom when we're carrying them. Thats what causes morning sickness lack of vitamin B or at least one reason. Anyway goodluck.

I had terrible morning sickness with my first, and all-day sickness with my second. It was so bad that I did ask for help. The medicines my doctor prescribed didn't work. Neither did saltine crackers, peppermints, or the magnets. My doctof finally recommended an old-school remedy - a combination that worked for me. I ate 1-2 ginger snap cookies (the cheap kind with imitation ginger flavoring) before I got out of bed. Then I opened a real Coca-Cola and sipped on it all day. It actually worked better if it was just cooler than room temp, but not cold just out of the refrigerator. Since I wasn't drinking coffe or tea or anything else with caffeine, it wasn't enough to hurt. It was the ONLY way I was able to function during the day.
Good luck, and congrats on the upcoming addition!

Hi S.-There are two things that seem to work really well in our shop--Morning Sickness Magic and Preggie Pop Drops. The Morning Sickness Magic used to come in a lliquid which didn't taste too good, and now comes in tablet form. I have some samples that I can give you so you can see if they work. The Preggie drops are sour candies that have also been popular.

You can read about them by going to my website www.thebreastfeedingshoppe.com and going to Herbal Suppliments.

Hope this helps!

I am so sorry S.! I have had three children, and varying degrees of morning sickness with each one. I threw up EVERYDAY for the entire pregnancy with my first. There are these lollipops called pregnancy pops somewhere out there that help a little. (I used them with my 3rd.) I learned not to brush my teeth until I had breakfast AND it was at least 10:30am. AVOID BAD SMELLS AT ALL COST.(I worked right next to the lunchroom in my office with No.2, and some things they cooked just had me running for the hills!) Peppermints helped too.

my oby advised me to suck on a hard peppermint candy. it was so fantastic, i didn't even need to eat the entire piece to get the full effects. some of my friends made a tea out of peppermint and it worked as well. i even use this method whenever i have an upset stomach. there are no chemicals involved and nothing to harm u or the little one. as i said, if u are watching calories, u needn't eat the whole piece. U can always brush yr teeth if u are afraid of cavities. god bless

Keep smaller portions of food on your tummy. It helps ease the over sensation in your stomach. Also, keep some Saltines around to snack on, they're light and the salt helps. No to morning sickness tea is good to ease nausea.

I had MS the worst during my preg. Took me FOREVER to find out that Coke cola syrup sold in a tiny 3 oz bottle at the drugstore (walgreens) worked everytime. I would pour it over crushed ice (1-2 tbls) and it helped soo much; although not a cureall it was a great help!!!

B-6. (most take it with half a unisom, but since you do not take anything just the B-6) It is not total relief, but did help me make it through the day. I also have used everything known to man, from the pressure point bands to foods. It got so bad with my last baby I did end up having to be put on medication...and I was SO very thankful for it.
Best of luck to you!

I was ill all day in the begining of my pregnancy. I would try taking my regular prenates different times of the day to try and help make the nausea go away, but nothing was helping. So when I went in for my next dr visit she put me on a prenatal vitamin that is said to help the nausea. Premisis Rx, it was awesome! I could only take it at night about 30 min after dinner, but it did help me out alot!

My aunt told me to try a spoonful of sherbert before getting out of bed, or even before sitting up to get out of bed. If you have a way - try it. Her doctor recommended it to her when she was having twins and was sick 24 hours a day. It worked for her. Good luck and congratulations!

Congrats on the lil' one. I have tried almost all the suggestions. The one thing that was helpful and easy to do was a saltine cracker and a little coke in the morning before you EVER sit up. Place these things on the bedside table before you go to sleep and they are ready for you in the morning. They won't melt like sorbet and ice doesnt melt like coke icee. For some reason Coke helps a great deal and the cracker helps fill your stomach. Hope it helps. Let me know.
