I was going to tell you about the BRAT diet also. It really does work. It is is stuff most little ones will eat. Limit the butter on toast. Dry if you can make it that way. Good Luck.
My daughter has had diarhea for 10 days now and the pediatrician has taken stool samples and so far every virus they have been testing for is negative. They continue to think it is a viral infection. Does anyone know of any miracle solution for diarhea because she has already been dehydrated once and I am afraid it may happen again if this does not stop. Thanks.

Thanks so much for all of the great ideas. I have been doing Pedialyte or water and some yogurt. I also had tried rice and some bananas and applesauce. It is getting a little better so hopefully we are on our last leg of it. I think your right when you say you just have to let it run its course.
11/25/06 Thanks to all who have responded to my request. My daughter's diarrhea is gone and I guess the viral infection just needed to run its course. It seems like every time she has an viral infection it takes this long. I will remember everyone's input in case this situation rises again.

Have you ever heard of the BRAT Diet. Try Bananas, Rice, Applesauce and Toast. It really does work, when one of us as adults get diarhea I still use it to this day. Please let me know how this works for your daughter.
Unfortunately I don;t have any ideas how to stop it. It usually just has to run its course. Are you giving her pedialyte? Thsis will keep her hydrated. Is she drinking apple juice? Apple juice causes diarrhea.
Honey, you really need to get her to the Dr. she has had diarrhea for far too long. I would suggest she see another pediatrician too. There is a chance that you will get the same answers but you never know. There may be something that one pediatrician is more familiar with, or has had an experience with that your pediatrician has not. Also, get her some pedialite; pedialite drink, pedialite popsicles, whatever she will take.Yogurt, although most kinds are full of sugar, is also good for combatting stomach viruses. And, they now have immodium AD for children. You are right, if she hasn't already, she will become dehydrated. I think one thing that is really important here is to figure out why she is having these symptoms. Have you thought about what food she has eaten that may be triggering it? Good luck, I really hope you get to the bottom of this. J.
I had diarrhea for 3 weeks a few months ago and (I am 34) my doctor gave me Lomotil, a prescription (sp?). It was the only thing that worked for me. Not sure if they would give it to a baby, but it can't hurt to ask.
Have her eat yogurt and drink pedialyte. My daugheter just got over it so I know how you feel. Good Luck
Just currious...has she been drinking apple juice? I ran into the same situation with my son who just turned a year old in October...the daycare was giving him apple juice every day. He had a urine test, blood test, and stool sample and they couldn't find any virus, bacteria and his liver function was fine...I made the daycare stop giving him apple juice and the diarrhea went away. He can eat apples...but something they do to the apple juice...he couldn't tollerate it. Start thinking of things in her diet and see what works.
Samantha is right...yogurt! All the yogurt she can eat. And drink water too. Pedialyte is good but kind of pricey and I have found water works just as well...plus it can keep the possible dehydration levels down.
Yogurt contains healthy bacteria that clean out the intestines and colon. Stay away from things like apples, apple sauce, apple juice, raisans, and grapes. Those are all natural laxatives. Good luck!
My son is now 15 but when he was younger he also had trouble with diahrea. His Pediatrician also told me he had a viral infection. Upon finally taking him to the emergency room I found out the true problem. This may be something you want to check into. My son was always a picky eater he only wanted meat and potatoes. He was constipated and I did not know it. The diahrea, vomiting and fever was do to the fact his bowels were so backed up. The diahrea was just seapage around the feces that were stuck. He was in the hospital for three days because although I called his doctor at least twice a week he still kept assuring me it was a virus that my son was having a hard time getting rid of. He was in the hospital for three days because after several months he became dehydrated. After finding out that was the problem I was able to give him mild laxatives once or twice a week and he no longer has those problems. Now at 15 his system is pretty well regulated. But at the time had he not been taken to the emergency room I may have never found out what the real problem was. Just something to think about. Even for a viral infection 10 days is a long time to have the diahrea for someone so young.

When my son had diarhea before, our pediatrician recomended apple sauce. Not apple juice, but apple sauce. He said it helps keep them hydrated and also helps stop the diarhea.
Hope she gets better soon.
My Daughter had it for a week. and the Dr. just said to let it run it course. Good luck, I know Going threw the Diapers is ruff because it cost money but take care,

My daughter had chronic diharea for 8 months due to a severe viral infection. In order to control it so the natural bacteria in her digestive tract built back up, her diet consisted of no milk (she was over a year old, lean meats, and yougurt. Basically no fatty, greasy complex foods, only foods that are easy to for the body to break down.
Immodium is the best stuff ever! Also, try some charcoal it will help! Not a lot. Go to your local health food store and get something, they often have wonderful miracles!!! Chamomile Tea helps calm irritated tummies!
You are in our prayers!
