Help with a Stripped Screw

I'm recovering dining room chairs and things are going along nicely - UNTIL - a stripped screw. The chairs that the cushions are screwed into are metal. And this one screw looks like it was stripped when it was screwed into the chair cause I've never taken it apart before.

Any ideas how to get this out? I've googled and tried the rubber band method and it didn't work. It's too close to the base to use pliers or a wrench to twist it out.

Would HomeDepot maybe be able to help with this? Sigh!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

So I googled a bit more and found a site with 12 ways to remove a stripped screw. It said if the thing is not fragile, you can hammer the screw and "re-seat" because the metal is soft enough to strip in the first place. Since the chairs are aluminum, I was able to hammer a screwdriver deeper into the screw till it gripped, then unscrew - it worked!!! I was SO happy :)

They do make special screwdriver heads to take out stripped screws. Your Home Depot should carry them.
