I have started potty training with 2 yr 7 month old boy and we are doing fine with the pee. It has been a week and he will not do the big job in the potty, he goes straight on the floor. He does not have a diaper or underwear on. He seems to be scared on doing the job in the potty. He stands on a step stool, while going pee.
Please help, need ideas.

What can I do next?

I had this problem too. I think some of it is that they don't quite recognize that they have to poop. It took a while but my son did get it. I would catch him starting and rush him in to finish on the potty. Now he tells me for both. Just don't push things, he will get it. Good luck.

also I did finally use a reward for pooping on the potty, for my son he loves chocolate, so when he went on the potty he got a small piece. After he started telling me he had to go I stopped offering the reward and he finally forgot about it and now just goes.

I agree with the postings before me but I would just like to add one thing, I would suggest putting him in "big boy" underpants so you prevent the problem of him pooping right on your floor.

HI S.,
M. here...
It seems to take a lot of rewards and repetition to get #2 in the potty. I bought a cute, colorful step for him, which helped, but the seat is big, so had to find a fun seat for the toilet. He learned to put it on by himself (a "big boy" thing). I would give him a sticker every time he was successful, either pee or poop. I had a book that was a plastic potty book about a boy and his teddy bear. The boy was telling the bear how to use the potty. I am not sure where that is now, but will see if I still have it. It survived nearly 12 years and 4 kids! He really didn't get the #2 until he was closer to 3 years. We found that pull ups (with a favorite character) and if you can find them, thick underwear got us out of diapers. I didn't use the pull ups for very long, just to get him used to how to wear underwear. If he isn't able to sense when he needs to go poop before he feels the urge, see if you can figure out the timing of when he goes most often.
Take care!

hi S. i have a 3 yr.old boy and he too would only go pee-pee in the big potty and would not go poo in the potty but his pull-ups, until finally about 2 months ago he finally started going in the big potty, my husband and i just kept talking to him, reassuring him that it's ok to go in the potty, even though he still waits to go until it's about to come out and for some reason he has a hard time going at his grandmothers house, i wouldn't worry so much about it his pediatrician said that it's normal at this age to do this, just give him time. i hope this helped.
