Help! Potty Training for the First Time

I have a 15 month old little girl who is showing interest in potty training. She is no longer using the bathroom at night and is very uncomfortable when she has a dirty diaper. I even put her on her potty the other day and she pooped in her potty. I don't know if it was just good timing or if she is really ready, but she is extremely interested in sitting on the potty. I would love any advice on potty training because I have never done this before. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I work in a daycare and we start letting our kids sit on the potty as early as 10 months old. The way you're approaching it right now is wonderful!! However it you ever seem to hit a lull in her enthusiasm, add stickers in the mix...its the best reward ever!

first and foremost Dont get frustrated. jut when you think she is getting it and moving forward things may come to a coplete stop or even better...regress. We started by putting our son on his potty before bath time. The diaper is coming off anyway and it seemed a very casual aproach. sometimes we got lucky and we did dances clapped made lots of noise and even handed out M&M's. I also made sure the potty was extra clean so he could sit on it whenever he wanted clothes or not. now my next one is beginning the process and all he wants to do is drad it around like a chair. Its cool. Good luck.

You could try taking her every time you go to the bathroom, but really she is still quite young. I had my oldest trained shortly after 2 and plan on starting my youngest gradually at around 18 months. Good Luck, she may show interest in it now, but that will probably fade in a few days to weeks. It never hurts to just keep trying and make it a gradual thing, even if it isn't an everyday thing that she does actually go to the potty. It takes them a while to realize the urge and feeling to need to go before it is to late to make it to the potty.

Hey if she is showing interest let her be a big girl as much as possible. YOu might get lucky and get her into big girl panties and save on diapers sooner than most. I'm proud of her. YOU GO GIRL!!!
Perhaps it was timing. But, the interest is there so GO FOR IT!

She may be a little young but if she seems interested...go for it. I'm going throught it right now myself with my 21 m/o. We bought her a potty when she was 14 months because she seemed somewhat interested and she's super smart (if I do say so myself) She actually used it about 75% of the time we put her on it for the first week or two. Then she lost interest. Probably because she was so young. We would encourage but not push her to sit on it before bath and if she woke up dry. Now she's in full potty training mode. It's hit and miss but I think she grasps the concept now. We usually just get there too late but we are making progress. If you are a sahm, I would suggest asking if she wants to sit on the potty every hour or two. If she does, great! If she doesn't, no big deal, she is still very young. Keep up the encouragement and have patience. I believe the average potty training age is around 3. Good Luck!
