My son is three. He's almost completely pee trained. If he has to poop though, he needs a pull up. I've just told him that if he wants to go in a pull up, he needs to put one on himself and go do it in the bathroom. Every time I stress him pooping in the toilet he freaks out.

Watch for tell tale signs that she is pooping. Most kids have 'em. Sitting in a corner, hiding, going into a specific room or just being quiet. Also alot of kids do it at the same time everyday. So if you can catch her pooping then grab her and put her on the potty and say: POOP. And sit quietly w/ her, have a nice little chat, make it pleasant so she feels comfy enough to let it out w/ out giving it too much thought. Dont be dramatic about it, be matter of fact. If she gets the slightest bit emotional about it she might not go.
I hear this is a common problem altho I have never experienced it. I trained my 2 girls and they just did it. Poop and pee in the potty all at the same time. It was like they knew instinctively that anything that comes out of your bottom goes in a potty.
Of course when she finally succeeds give her tons of praise but short and brief. She will be encouraged to do it again for sure.
Good Luck.

First, try not to get too frustrated. My almost-5-yr-old son potty trained just fine for peeing, but was almost 4 before he would poopy on the pot, whether it was a full size toilet, or a potty chair. It may be that your daughter just isn't ready physically, maturity-wise, or she's just stubborn. One of our doctors suggested sitting the child on the toilet approximately 10 minutes after each meal, then setting a timer for 10 minutes. She must understand that she must sit there for the full ten minutes, as this is the amount of time that studies have shown will condition her body to respond by evacuating the bowels. Once the timer goes off, she gets to pull a bagged treat from a basket that is in plain view of the toilet, but out of reach. The doctor recommended getting 20 days worth of dollar store prizes or perhaps treats, individually wrapped or in paper bags. As long as she sits for the entire 10 minutes, she gets a prize whether she "goes" or not. After 20 days, her body should be conditioned whether she wants it to be or not. Then you can simply make sure she goes to the toilet after each meal, and she should be close to fully trained. Give it a try...it worked for us!!

Hi! I am "older" mom, I have a 19year old girl, a 17year old girl and a 13 year old boy! I teach Kindergarden, I remember when my 19 year old was potty training, and she was just like your little girl! I thought she would go from diapers to depends!!! When I think back on her childhood I have one regret that bothers me, it is that I was stressed out about her having her BM on the potty! I think I stressed her out in the process, she would get right off the potty and have a BM in her big girl panties! The less stresful you make it the more she will relax and eventually go BM on the potty. I know that sounds like "yeah right!" I was trying to get my daughter to train for pre-school and time was of the essence,
however it is also a control thing for them, not in a negative way just something they and they alone can control. Be patient and make it not a big deal no threats no prizes just "just ok well, let me know when you have to go potty and I will help you" and when she does have accidents say" please let me know when you feel like a BM is coming and I will help you hurry to the potty, one day you will have all your BM's on the potty, and soon I hope, what do you think"I did not have the same issues with my other daughter, because I changed my approach to the potty training
phase. I hope this helps a bit! Good Luck!

A little bit about myself. I am a 40 year old SAHM with 2 small kids ages 3.5 and 5.

I am having the same promblem with my 3 almost 4 year old daughter. I just let her bm in a pull-up. I went through the same thing with my son who is now 5 and does everything on the potty. Some kids just take a little longer than others to for them to feel comfortable doing a bm on the potty.

Hope this helps.

I bribed my daughter! I know many people don't like to, but it worked like a charm! Every time she peed in the potty she got a sticker. Every time she pooped she got a piece of chocolate. Done in 2 days and now she rarely even asks for the chocolate anymore. Good luck!

Hi T.,
Does she wear pullups or real pants? A lot of times it takes moving them to real underwear to solve this.
