My question is how do my husband and I get our 15 mth old teething son to get back to sleep at night after waking up crying 2-3 times a night !? We give him the pacifier, baby night time oragel, warm milk, rocked him, slept with us for up to 30 min. tops, then back to his crib. He is very sensitive and wakes up constantly per night. He should be sleeping through the night since months ago, but has a very tough time. He naps for about an hour, lately I time him and only an even hour, then we wake him up.
He is going to work with me soon in a couple of months into child care and I am worried, he is going to sleep in a cot, probably the workers will rock him a little in the rocking chair and then when he is asleep they will put him into the low cot.
what I am concerned about is I know how unsettled he can get and might wake up or disturb the other babies, if he doesn't get used to it there fast enough, I may just switch him with his sister. She on the other hand is his total opposite. Is very high strung and tough as in doesn't cry much, especially with her teething, she has done good, sleeps all through the night and if she has a longer nap than an hour she will still go to bed at 8 pm the latest and will wake up by 7 am . Unless her brother wakes her up to the point that we get into their nursery and he is in pain from the teething. We were told by his pediatrician that we can give him the infant tylenol and sometimes that takes an hour just to get back to sleep ! We are getting drained as parents of these two beautiful twins. I lost my cool the other day and felt so bad I yelled at them, they were both crying, missed their nap and wanted me both to pick them up together. They weigh 24 lbs. now I'm sure. Their daddy had stepped out to get them milk for the week. Well, any advice will be most helpful, ty in advance to anyone out there .

Isabel,

Hi A., have you tried the dreaded Cry it Out yet? It might be the only way for him to actually go back to sleep- that is, if he was previously a good sleeper. Our nearly three year old has GI and reflux issues and has never slept so crying it out for him never worked and ultimately we would just bring him into bed with us in the middle of the night until we got him a double bed and we'd go in there when he called instead.. still working on issues. That being, our new baby is a really normal sleeping baby despite similar problems, as a result, if I can't figure out what's going on with him (teething, gas, etc) i let him fuss/cry and generally a half hour later he is back to sleep. I juts turn the monitor down as low as it goes...

Are you sure its teething? if so, it will eventually pass and take a while to get back on track with sleep habits. if its bad belly or reflux it might be worth checking out with GI doc. Good luck!

A.,

They don't teeth forever, this to will pass. Try to relax a little, I know your tired but they are babies. They do teeth and it hurts them. He will be fine at the daycare, I am sure he is not the only baby they have had that has teethed. If they miss their nap, that is not their fault....its yours. Yelling at them will only make things worse because you have scared them. You need to take a deep breath. His teething at night is painful, maybe before you put him so sleep at night give him the tylenol. You will get through this with lots of love and patience. I wish you luck with your beautiful twins.

I wouldn't worry about daycare. He will adjust just fine. He may sleep better and be less needy because you aren't there. Kids tend to be hardest on their mom! Have you tried hyland's teething tablets? They are all natural so I am more comfortable with giving them frequently then I am giving tylenol daily. I have 2 girls. Both very different personalities and I haven't slept thru the night in years! I let my 11 month old cry in the middle of the night. It's the only way she can fall asleep usually is by crying. Good luck. I know how hard it is to be sleep deprived!

Hi A.,

God bless you being a mother of twins! I don't know how to help, but I guess I would console you by saying it can't last forever. At some point, he'll sleep through the night. It sounds like you're doing all the right things and you're a great mom!
