Help! My 2 Year Old Keeps Taking His Diaper Off!

I am at my wits end!!!

My son, Ezra, is now taking off his diaper every chance he gets and pees or poops in his bed, the floor, the living room, or anywhere he sees fit.

I am tired of changing sheets. I have sewn the crotch of onsies and pjs to prevent him, but he can get out of everything. Nothing keeps the flipping diaper on! He can unsnap, unzip, unbutton, or squeeze, stretch and basically houdini himself out of all clothing!

You might think I am a bad mother but tonight I even considered duct taping his diaper shut! Not all the way around just over the front. (I know laugh out loud it is funny when it is not you!)

Underwear does not work he just pees through the fabric. Pull-ups are just easier to get off. Overalls, nope can get them off too.

Please, I am begging.... anyone have any ideas?

What can I do next?

One of my friends had this problem with her little boy. She started putting the diapers on backwards, so they fastened in the back instead. It really helped a lot! He couldn't reach behind him and tug on the tabs the right way. Hope it helps!

hi Vicky,

i know exactly what you are going thru, and i am smiling. the pj trick is a good one but it did not work for me since i have twins and they helped each other out of their clothes.
so we went the duct tape route as they were not quite ready for the potty. i did not worry what people thought because it was not hurting them at all and most people thought it was funny. they come in lots of different fun colors, and the girls got used to it quickly. i did have to put it all the way around and overlaped it so they really coildn't get out of it.
good luck, please let me know how it goes.

Maybe it's potty training time! He seems like he is ready! Have you tried any of this yet? I am thinking that with a system of rewards for using the big boy potty and some preschedualed naked time he can be persuaded to keep his little buns in his clothes. Good luck! Jess

If it were me personally I would punish my son if he ever did that and then get him a potty seat or a lookalike potty for kids to make him excited to go.When my son got his potty seat and his step stool he was more than happy to try them out. Also there are these flushable potty rings u put in ur toilet with character designs that are suppose to encourage kids to aim for the target...never used them but saw them.

Not laughing at all been there done that....try a doll that he can put a bottle in it's mouth with water and see that the water come out the bottom just like him..then start the potty chair I wouldn't start off spanking him this could lead to him going in the potty later and having issues about it. There are some good books out there for potty training, I'd also call your peditrician's office get some ideas from them they get all kinds of stories and can be helpful. There are some picture books about potty time and some little movies. About night time well that one looks like duck tape on diapers would be the best bet. One of my kids we let him out side and well he went all over the back yard he was potty trained before age 3 my other two boys well took longer ages 4 and 5. It will all work out good luck.

hehehe... i'm there with ya! So this is what we do...Get a zip up sleeper and put it on backwards, We even di it with the ones that have feet with no problem. I have had 3 of my 4 kids do this and wearinf footed pj's backwards so that they couldn't undress was the only solution!!!

i would use tape around the top of the diaper that way the only way to get it off is to cut it LOL!

Maybe it is time to potty train him. I hope my son never learns to take off his diaper!

My daughter did the same thing when she was 1-2 yrs. She actually went so far (gross) as to rub the poop all over the bed and walls, etc.

One, make sure you are telling him how unacceptable that it is and that he is a bad boy for doing it.

Two, make him help you clean it up.

Three, get footie sleepers and put them on backwards. Put the zipper on his back. If he still continues to do it, then pin the zipper to the sleepy clothes. And yes dont feel back about putting tape on the diaper.

Good luck.

My daughter just stopped. Also you may find older kids and get them to tell him it's bad. It grossed my son out so she figured out that it was not cool.

I honestly think it is time to start potty training him. My son took his diaper off around age 2 also, but I explained to him that was it. No more diapers and showed him the potty. Yes there were plenty of accidents and sheets and carpet to clean up, but with in about a week he was potty trained. I did still use a pull up at night just because I was tired of changing sheets, but if you get them in a routine to go to the potty before bed, the accidents just go away. I hope all goes well with what ever you decide to do. Good Luck.

Sounds to me like he is ready to be potty trained. Have you tried that?

I would try the potty too...

Does he get punished for doing this? I'm thinking maybe if the poop isn't in his diaper or the potty then there has to be some consequence? Never went through this one myself... good luck!

I think they make some pj that zip all the way up the back so that the child can not get out of them. I would do some searching and see if you can find something like that. Good luck.
