Well we are going thru the terrible twos with a capital T. My son is 2 1/2 yrs old and I love him to death, however he keeps pulling his diaper off today. He has being doing it and we put big boy pants on him and then he stops. Well not today he has done it like 5 times. It doesnt matter if he has a little wet diaper or he has pooped He usually takes them off when he poops now. I know this is a sign, however the sign isnt in his mind i guess, because he would rather take it off and run around and not listen to me. Please tell me someone else is going thru this. I am in desperate need of help, do i discipline him or just keep loosing my mind

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you so far, I have been trying the pull ups, but he can take them off. So I will give it a go on the running around naked and see. We did that the other night and he potty on the floor so maybe it might work. I will keep everyone posted as we progress.
thanks a bunch

Never had this problem, but I agree with Christie. Maybe he's ready to potty train. Try putting him in big boy underwear all the time and see what happens. If you're not there yet, have you tried pull ups? Maybe they'd be harder to get off without taking his pants all the way off?

I've been there!

When my now 3 year old was potty training (started right after she could walk and take her clothes off herself) she would do the same thing. So, what I ended up doing (and have heard several other moms say they've done this too) is while we were at home if she wanted to go around without her clothes on that's what she did. It actually helped with the potty training because she knew when she had to go and she knew there was no diaper or pullup on and that if she pottied in the floor...

It worked well for us. And like I said, several other moms I know have done the same and gotten the same results. Of course when we left the house she'd wear a pull up.

Have you tried turning the diaper around backwards? I heard this from one of the nurses in our doctor's office. I never had this problem with my girls, but she was saying that it worked for a mom with twins. One of the twins would take her diaper off in the crib and put it on the other's head. Good luck!

My son did the same thing. What I did is if we were at home just let him run around that way. If I was in public or getting ready to go out I would put clothes on him and make sure that the bottoms were something he could not get off.

GOOD LUCK TO YOU! But if he keeps taking it off, leave it off. At that age he should be ready to start potty training. I potty trained three of mine with the "naked hiney" approach. Boys are much easier to do that with than girls though, you can tell when they need to pee. The easiest of mine was my eldest son who only took two weeks, my daughter was the hardest and it seemed like YEARS before it was over! Haha. My other son took about a month to six weeks. I have one left to go, so wish me luck too!

M. - although it might be a little early for boys, I'm thinking this might be a sign that he is ready to start potty training... My husband and I have one son, 5 years old, at this point. He started getting interested in the bathroom and the toilet around this time and he would also pull off his diaper at really inopportune times (like there is any really good time to do this!). My mom, a mother of four, said that in her experience children often start feeling uncomfortable in their wet and dirty diapers around this age. They are up and moving around so much more and the nasty diapers get in the way. Once they learn that they can take them off and run around free... yeah, free... then they just love to take them off. If you have any other hints as to when he might go pee-pee or poopy (listen to me, what language) (my son always got really quiet and still) then you might be able to head him off and take him off to the bathroom and introduce him to a toddler toilet. It doesn't always work because you have to catch them at the right time but I think this might be a good indication that he might be ready to begin the training process. There are several things on the web that discuss potty training - the do's and don'ts (unfortunately I don't remember where I got them before). I would suggest checking on that and then trying it out with him. Then, it's off to big boy pants and bye-bye stinky diapers! Good luck. C.

Sounds like he is ready to start using the big potty. Get some pull ups and give it a go. If all else fails duck tape his diaper on! J/K
