I'm with Sarah on this one 100%....
there are several free online public schools for Ohio, but I'm not really sure what is available in IN. I use OHVA which is k12 (same site someone else mentioned) there is also connections academy, and a few others here.
here's a link for 3 schools in Indiana

oh and good luck, we love it, my youngest has actually never set foot in a public school and I pulled my son after first grade. it's the best thing we've ever done.
and the program is easy to use and there is a lot of teacher support, as well as free services like tutoring and title 1 if your daughter needs help in a certain area.
My children attend a digital academy. This is an online school, which allows your children to receive education through an accredited school in a home setting while being able to go at their pace. You are not responsible for designing or implementing the curriculum, you are simply a learning partner to your child. You'll check your child's homework, as you would if they were attending school and be able to monitor all areas of their schoolwork..
My children attend Treca Digital Academy, but I know there are SEVERAL other options available. TDA (as are many places) is totally free. They supply your child with a computer, scanner, and a printer if needed (for the younger grades). Your child will be learning from teachers, following the state mandated guidelines and will be taking that OAA (Ohio Achievement Assessment - formerly the OAT - Ohio Achievement Test) in late April. This is the test that all children take and how they do reflects positively (or negatively) onto the school and affects funding. You as a parent will be responsible for making sure your child is at the testing site (the only thing you cannot do at home), which is usually over the course of 4 or 5 days.
Some schools have embraced the online concept as well, and they have an option of attending their online program, yet participate in all the local events, sports, dances, etc.
This takes dedication from the student and the parent. You do not have your child away from home 5 days a week, allowing you the time needed to clean, grocery shop, do laundry, prepare meals, and the multitude of other things we women do during the day.
Your child might not react well to an unstructured setting, after all, how often do we have lots to do and only get a little done because we don't work as hard or fast as we should? You will have to be a good role model and be involved.
I do not disrespect anyone that is home schooling through their own devices. I recognize the hard work you are doing with your children. Nor do I disrespect anyone that has their children attend regular school.
This should not be the debate that it is. It should be about doing what is right for your child. I strongly advise anyone that does school at home to involve their children in outside the home activities. The libraries offer programs, 4-H, Scouts for both girls and boys, community activities are available if you do look. Do not allow your child to be awkward or socially inept (although it can be pointed out that children attending regular school have social issues as well). Schooling options should be explored so that the child is receiving the best education possible.
I'd welcome any questions you have about this method of schooling.
I have been researching homeschooling like crazy and am convinced we are going to do it for our children - so many benefits!
Funny enough, I recently joined an online support group for my town and just yesterday after I read your request, they started talking about good websites and included this one:
www.freelyeducate. com
I haven't looked at it yet, but the lady who suggested it loves it!
We use the same textbooks as our local high school. They directed us to the website they use to buy their textbooks. We bought some there and found the others that the high school uses on Amazon. Those books were used and very cheap . Also in good condition. This is working very well for us and was really pretty inexpensive. I make up the tests myself .You can call your local principle and ask who puchases the textbooks for your childs grade. Hope this helps.
there is also ambleside online
Hey C.,
I apologize I have nothing to offer on your message…Good for you trying to assist your daughter through a very stressful transition. If I remember correctly you posted a similar question yesterday or the day before, am I right? Have you asked your daughter why the change or what prompts her to want to be homeschooled? Is there an underlying issue that you can deal with instead of the drastic change from school to homeschooling?
Please disregard the negativity some individuals posted. I wish people would post only positive and helpful comments vs. negative ones to someone who is obviously stressed out enough.
Good luck with whatever decision you and your daughter choose.
