I am a single mom that has been a SAHM for most of youngest son's life. I've been temping through a nanny agency since Jan 2007 and babysitting here and there due to my son being sick all the time but now it is time that I need to go back to work fulltime. I am struggling financailly all the time and I can't do it anymore. I need to get ahead and ready to move on to have a better life for me and my kids. I haven't been in the corporate world since Dec 2003 due to medical problems and complications during pregnancy. I am a certified medical assistant but don't have any hands on experience. I am struggling finding work. I have applied numerous of times a day on craigslist, indeed, an some temp agencies. If any mom's out there have any suggestions I would love to hear them. By the looks of it I don't think I am going to be able to have a Christmas this year and it breaks my heart.
I live w/my parents but i need to move very soon. They are older and it's really hard financially, emotionally living w/them. I babysit once or twice a week but that doesn't cut it by all means.

I've been praying to find work where I am suppose to be but am not able to find anything. My passions are helping others, making a difference in life.
Blessings
M.

M., I may be of help to you. Have you tried to apply for social security for your son with Autism? I have two sons that have ADHD and other behavioral problems and I receive supplemental social security money for them. For one child I receive $637.00. So, apply for SSI. You can go online to www.ssa.gov or go to your nearest social security office to apply. Apply online if you can because the lines at the office are long. As far as Christmas gifts, will your church help with that? If not ask your local elementary school's office for any resourses in the community to help with Christmas gifts. About employment, do you have any receptionist experience? I am also a certified medical assistant but I took a job as a medical receptionist. So, try and apply for this position on www.careerbuilder.com. You can build a profile and resumes and they will also email you jobs based on your preferences. God Bless and Happy Holiday's. Let me know what becomes of it all.

Toys R Us is hiring seasonal help right now. I am sure a lot of other retailers are too. I know it isn't what you really want to do, but it is a job which it sounds like you really need.

Go to a social services agency (i.e. Catholic Charities or Salvation Army) and ask for help. Many of these agencies can provide you with a full spectrum of assistance - food, clothing, rent/bill assistance, job training and job search assistance. Call 211 - it's a FREE referral service that can send you to the agency that's closest to your home that can help you meet your needs.

I know that God will provide for your needs. It may be uncomfortable to ask for help from your church, but that is what churches are all about. My husband and I had to borrow money from a relative a while back, and it killed me to ask, but I believe God was trying to teach us a lesson in humility. To truly understand and minister to the needy, we often have to experience those struggles first-hand. I pray that God will bless you, and I have no doubt that if you ask for help..you Will receive it. I pray that you have peace during this timee..it will pass!!

M.,
I just found out about this community resource for single parents, it is very new and they provide several services and workshops that include financial crisis coaches, legal workshops, childcare options, counseling and other very helpful things. The website is www.parentingalone.org ant the phone number is ###-###-####. It is in Carrollton but they partner with other agencies in the metroplex. If you can please let me know if it was helpful.
Good luck!

I saw an ad today for US Toy in Plano which could be beneficial especially because it has teacher supplies..Lots of other retail places have ads out as well, especially here in this area. I am not sure where you are located.

Good luck
