Okay my son is almost 1 and 3 1/2 weeks ago we went through a spout of Rosiola. Jace had high high temps for 4 days and then the rash. It appears it was an epidemic around here because the waiting room was filled with infants all being diagnosed w/ the similar virus. We found it odd that right next to us, sat a mother and her 9-month-old girl w/ these same ODD bumps on her body. The doctor told her it was probably from Rosiola. Our doctor told us that she wasn't sure what they were but it looked to be viral, or due to the fever, and should pass. We are 2 weeks out since our last visit, the Rosy is gone-but the bumps keep appearing. It looks to be systemic as they are throughout the body, a few on his arm, his hand, his legs, his feet, 2 on his belly, and 2 on his face. They seem to stick around and he doesn't act as if he's in pain or if they itch. I will try to describe them as best I can and I am in SEARCH of ANY IDEAS of what that this may be: they come out looking like a pimple almost w/ red around it, then they turn into a bump that is similar looking to a wart but w/o the cauliflower look. I looked up chicken pox on WebMD and they don't blister or appear to itch so I ruled that out. There still just hanging around w/o the redness 2 weeks out but new ones do resurface. We are going to try and get him back in to the doctor but in the meantime, CAN ANYONE relate or have ideas as to what this may be? It's odd to say the least and I'd like to hear from other mommas!!! First off I cannot tell you thank you enough! It was fabulous to read everyone's input and to see the outpouring of responses-one girl put it best-Mamasource rocks! So we took Jace to the doctor again a few days later to find that there was still no idea what the bumps were. They ruled out staph, chicken pox, exzema, and the like. They stated that since he was not itching or showing any other bad signs that it must not be a problem and it would pass. Well as an annoyed mom who likes to be informed and know more than doctors or corporations often like to provide, I went home and researched more and took everyone's input. I decided to put my Melaleuca oil on the bumps and HOORAY they are now clearing up amazingly! So thank u again, I am glad it was not staph and it was very nice to connect w/ other moms who have been through the same thing. I hope you are all doing well and to report that we will be bump-free soon! :)
The only thing i can think of is excema, it looks kinda the way you discribed. my son had it on his face and now it is on his back. we use the aveno baby excema cream every night and it seems to keep it at bay, if we forget one night it is back ia a few days. or what about heat rash from being so hot. just some ideas.
My son had this for a while too. From about the age of 1-3. He's going on 4 now. But through that age, they came and went and the doctors had no idea what it was. The only thing they said was that it could be a reaccouring virus that just comes and goes. If they aren't hurting him, I'd suggest waiting it out if the MD says it's nothing in perticular. Eventually my son's disappeared and now he's perfectly healthy and fine.
I think sometimes we freak out because kids get viruses we don't know what they are and how to "fix" them. It's amazing how our bodies can fight things off on our own and build up immunities without anyone giving us shots or drugs. I'm sure that whatever he has, if the doc's don't think it's serious, will go away in time.

My son has never had these bumps, but it does sound like staff infection like alot of other people have sugested. If it is, you need to get him to the doc right away because I have seen from experience what it can do to a grown man.
I don't know if it's what your son has, but my oldest had bumps almost all over his body but especially on his torso. They looked like little mini warts. Then, one by one, they started getting inflamed to where they looked like white heads. Once the white head went away, the wart-like thing never came back. My son never had a problem with his bumps. He never scratched at them and didn't seem to even notice them until they got inflamed - and then he would pick at them.
My husband and I were at the doctor for a well baby check for our twins, so I had my husband take our oldest in to see a doctor who'd had a cancellation to get the bumps checked out. (There was one on his thigh he had been picking at and it looked like it was getting infected.) My husband can't remember the name of the skin condition, but the doctor assured him that the skin problem was completely benign and would clear up by itself. The doc was right. He's completely bump free today and there are no signs they ever existed!
Could it be Keratosis Pilaris? Have you taken him to a dermatologist yet? Try googling it and it will show you pictures.
My daughter has this and until I took her to a dermatologist I kept getting the run around about what it was.
My son had the chicken pox in January and had I not taken him into the doctor I probably wouldn't have guessed that they were chicken pox. They started out just like your son's did, like a pimple, but then they would flatten out and disappear. They never did blister and new ones would come and old ones would go for about two weeks. He had a high fever with them, which is why we took him into the docter to begin with. The fever we were able to control with Tylenol and motrin, but he was on both meds for two weeks before his fever finally broke. His bumps never really seemed to bother him either. My point is in all of this is while chicken pox appears how you described (blisters, itchy, etc) in MOST children it doesn't occur like that in ALL children, especially now with the chicken pox vaccine I think some kids get a mild version of the virus that looks different from the chicken pox we had as kids. The unfortunate thing is that there is no test for chicken pox. It is diagnosed by ruling everything else out. However, even if he has chicken pox that go undiagnosed don't worry to much about it because there is nothing they can do to cure it anyway. It just has to run its course. Obviously, I am not a doctor so I'm not saying your child has the chicken pox, but I wouldn't rule it out. He may just have an atypical case. I would definitly take him back to the doctor though.
Could it be eczema? Try cutting dairy out of your diet for a week or so (be sure to scan labels for any hidden dairy-even margarine has dairy proteins). My daughter got yucky blisters and it was a dairy allergy. Thankfully it cleared up when she got older!

Well Im not sure if this is the same or not. But when my 13 yr old was an infant she would get the same thing. The doctor gave us a cream that had steriods in it and you used it very sparingly. Because the looked like pimples i wanted to pop them...but he told me not too. Cause if i did it would spread. I cant remember the name but lets say i did try to pop one....if i did i would have to make sure i got all the white stuff out...and it wasnt really too liquid but it had what he called a spore in it...and if i didnt get it all out it would keep spreading....so just left them alone and used the cream and they would go away...she still sometimes gets them....but i use stuff from melaleuca to take care of it. Hope this helps.
My son has the same kind of bumps, he never noticed them. I took him to our ped and I was told that is they were Molisk warts. It is something that toddlers pass around to eachother. Once they go away they wont come back though. If you just leave them alone they will go away. Our doctor said they could pass in a few weeks, months or take up to a full year to pass. They spread all over their body, but generally stick to the trunk and leags. Also he said the redness is a sign that their body is fighting the warts and that they a clearing. So the redness is good. My son has had them for about a month now and he only has a few left so I hope that is the end of them for us. Hope this helps.

My 3 yo daughter has the same thing, but she never had Rosiola. She has had the pimple looking bumbs for almost a year now... the dr said it is a type of viral wart, they touched something that gave it to them... they are NOT contagious BUT they do spread like crazy on the person! My daughter started with ONE on her left arm and now they are all over both arms, legs, torso, and a few on her face. They do not itch or bother her at all (they bother me more than they do her) The dr said they will go away on their own and it could be years before they all go away.... This is where Im having a hard time believing my dr. though. How can they go away if they keep spreading??? I havnt seen any go away, Ive seen two scab over but they're still there and I see new ones pop up all the time. So if your dr. does tell you of a way to get rid of them or at least on how to stop them from spreading, I'd really like to know too. I hope you get more info than I did. Good Luck!
at any point, do any of the bumps look like blisters or white head pimples? it sounds to me like it might be a staph infection (mrsa). my daughter had it a couple months ago and that's about what it looks like. it is contagious, and it needs to be treated by antibiotics. its usually bacterial, not always though, but can still be spread, just like pink eye. i would take your baby to a dermatologist if no one else can figure it out, and do it soon, because if it is mrsa, it can potentially cause problems or spread to someone else. you could also look into the possibility of eczema. eczema can show up many different ways. both of my kids have it. my son gets spots that resemble ring worm, but are just dry patches and my daughter gets what looks like dry red goose pimples. my brother in law gets large dry scaley patches. so, with all these differences, it could be a possibility as well.
I would just get him back into the dr. he might just be reacting to something around him
OK. I went to the doctor appointment today with my daughter. We just moved, so this is a new doc for us ... he seemed mystified, too -- he seemed to suggest that this was something that she would probably outgrow. However, in the last two days she has developed a cold and he discovered the very early signs of an ear infection when he checked her ears, so I wonder if this might have been a precursor to illness.
He also wondered if her bumps might be related to diet -- he suggested that I cut strawberries from her diet, but honestly, I don't think that's the problem because she had been eating strawberry yogurt no problem for weeks.
That said, Kate is now scratching at these bumps some -- not a lot, but we're going back in 10 days for a re-check on the ears and I'll let you know if her bumps are still there and if he says anything different.
Finally, I called our pediatrician's office last week and spoke with the nurse ... she said that it sounded like dry skin to her and suggested I slather on baby lotion. She said her son got the same bumps, too, as a baby/early toddler, and his took YEARS to disappear.
Curious stuff! I'll keep you posted, and please do the same in case you find out anything useful, too.

Without seeing the bumps myself, I can't say for sure whether they're anything like what my own son has had. My four-year-old had what *looked* like a boil on his arm a few months ago; I really wasn't sure as I'd never had one myself. It was gone by the time we saw the doctor anyway. He has small "bumps" on different areas of his body; most are not red, but some do get red and a little on the hard side.
Anyway, my son's doctor said that some people are just naturally more susceptible to staph bacteria (on the skin) than others, and HE suggested that my son take a bath about once a week in a tub full of water that has about 1/2 cup of bleach in it. I don't remember the exact amount, as we haven't kept up with it, but it's approximately the same concentration of chlorine that you'd find in a swimming pool. He said this kills the bacteria and prevents these bumps and/or boils from developing. Might be worth a try! Can't hurt anything, anyway.

Can I ask What Malaleuca cream you used? i popped one of these little bumps and there was a tiny white spore inside it. Now i realize that it was the WRONG thing to do and I'm totally freaked out and worried that I've made it WORSE!! Please help!
