I watch a little girl during the day who can now get out of the pack n play. I'm not sure what to do. Her Mom was thinking about buying one of those tent-like covers. She already had to buy one for her crib at home. I'm trying now to lay her down but she keeps kicking her leg over and then falling hard on her head. You would think she might get tired of doing this bc it would hurt but no...Help.

What can I do next?

Definately time for a toddler bed. Your just asking for it. One of my daughters ended up with stitches in her lip after falling out of her crib because I was trying to wait on Santa Claus to bring the new toddler bed.
And a tent at home over a crib is even worse, futher to fall. I have never seen a tent made to keep kids in a crib only the ones made to keep cats out.

I can't really offer any advice but it sounds like to me that she is ready for a big girl bed. Her mom might want to look into getting her a big girl bed. J. A.

We have crib tent and pack n play tent(for when we travel) for our youngest. After a week of no naps, 11pm bed time and 5 am waking up we were done. Get a tent, why are you making it hard on yourself????

I don't know how old this child is but when both of my children were able to get out of their playpens then I knew it was time to do something else. I knew that I couldn't use that to help me anymore. I just had to rethink my gameplan and I then used a pillow and blanket on the floor for nap that way I knew they wouldn't fall..

Have to agree with the others, time for the play pen and crib to go away. She needs to nap on the floor or a toddler bed. Mom isn't going to like the idea, but it will be for the best. I used a child gate in my kids bedrooms when they changed to the toddler bed. Takes a few times of standing at the door crying and mommy putting them back to bed for them to realize it's time. Suggest mom tries it on a weekend or couple of days off! Be consistent about her staying on her "mat" for her nap. It will be so good for y'all all three in the long run!! Good luck!

Dear Leah,
I think you have to put your foot down! You and/or the mom have to come up with a better system. The little girl is obviously too old for the pack-n-play. The mom might be procrastinating or avoiding additional spending. For the little girl, it's a game.
Who will the mom's lawyer blame when the otherwise healthy little girl has a disabling head injury from falling hard on her head repeatedly at YOUR house under YOUR care?
YOU!!!
Good luck with this.

How old is the little girl?

If she can climb out of the pack and play and refuses to stay in it, she's too big and/or too old for it.

I never had that problem with my son and personally think the tents are a bit ridiculous. I moved my son into a toddler bed at 15 months and he did fine. He also slept on a cot at daycare without issue. At first he didn't want to stay on the cot but after being put back on it a few times, he got the hint.

If the mother has lowered the mattress as low as it will go and the child still climbs out of the crib, then the child needs to be in a toddler or twin bed for safety's sake. A fall from the crib is a lot higher than a fall from a toddler or twin bed. It won't be long before she figures out how to escape the tent... they are little houdini's!

When I used to watch a little girl I would put her in a bouncy seat, just a laid back, sling type seat that buckled her in. It vibrated and she would fall asleep in it. After she got older I would lay down with you in my bed and sing to her and she would fall asleep. Surround it with pillows or have her mom get a rail for it. There are also portable, small cribs that maybe you can have instead of the pac n play. Not sure of her age but you can use an exersaucer to keep her in to watch tv or play if you need to go to the bathroom or something quick.

I agree with the toffler bed advice. I had to do that when I cought my son straddling the top of the crib and had hitdle to get to him before he tipped over.
For your house, I agree with the mom who said that you would get the blame. I do not advise anyone to play with other people's kids. Even if she knows about the situation, when it come to serious falls, you are responsible and you need to ask yourself, "Do I have enough money for this lawsuit waiting to happen."
How about trying a gate for the entrances to the room the play pen is in. Just like another mom said, its a game to her. She probably wants to see your reactions and she does it over and over again to see if she can learn to do it in a way she will not get hurt.
God Bless, and good luck

I would find somewhere else to lay her down as this is very dangerous. Maybe lay her down in your bed and put pillows around her to keep her from falling, or even on the couch with pillows. She has obviously outgrown the pack n play as well as the crib in her own home.

Before she falls out again and really hurts herself put the pack and play away and start laying her on the floor or a toddler bed.
Play soft music and tell her it's quiet time, she needs to be quiet until a certain time. Put a timer on abd say when the timer goes off you can get up. Usually mine were asleep before the timer went off.

not sure how old she is, but it sounds like it's time to PACK UP the play pen... I've never used play pens... Putting a tent-like cover on top -- TO ME-- is like having her in a cage; a playpen with a LID-- yeah, that's another way of saying cage...

Sounds like it's time to transition her to a toddler bed. They definitely don't sleep in pack n'plays/cribs forever! =0) It's all part of growing up.
