I had our son 4 weeks ago and and wanting to get on some sort of birth control. I want to get back to having time with my husband in our bedroom. But, am scared of getting pregnant. I'm currently fully breastfeeding. The only thing that i have found that i can take is the mini pill. Any suggestions. Please don't suggest the depo shot. I have tried that and i gained 35 pounds from taking it twice. I'm slightly overweight so if it would help loose weight as well that would be great.

What can I do next?

I have done the pill, the shot, the norplant and the nuva ring. By far the nuva ring was the best. Easy no side effects and effective. I think the nuva ring or the IUD would be the best for you.

Try Mirena at your own risk! While yes it is awesome since most don't have a period and it can stay in up to 5 years the side effects can be horrible. I was on it for three months and ended up with migraines, extreme hairloss (handfuls), loss of sex drive, severe depression (I didn't even want to hug or kiss my kids), and so on...Within a week after having it taken out all the side effects started to go away. Google side effects of Mirena.
I suggest talking to your doctor about using a copper IUD. There are no side effects since small doses of copper are released to thin the lining of the uterus to prevent pregnancy. You can breastfeed while in use.
Try the Mirena and if it works for you great! If not then you know there is a backup plan.

I think you would be fine taking the mini pill and breastfeeding at the same time,but I wouldn't recommend the Depo shot to anyone cause I gained a little weight too.My reason for not recommending the Depo is your cycle comes when it wants to or don't come at all.You should have a cycle no matter what birth control that you take.

I had the exact same fears when my son was born...of getting pregnant again and I didn't do my research...I ended up on the mini-pill. I read all the instructions and if you don't take it at the same time everyday you have a 1 in 20 chance of getting pregnant. I couldn't remember to brush my teeth at the same time everyday much less take a pill. So, with my daughter I got a IUD at my 6 week follow up appointment. I have the Minera (sp) and other than spotting the whole first month I had it...it has been pretty good. I don't have a period just a few days of spotting. I think it is great, I never have to think about birth control (I do mark my calendar to check the strings once a month). I believe it is the only other BC besides the mini-pill that you can still breastfeed while using...I am BFing. I hope this helps...oh, and if you want to have one inserted be sure to call your doctor's office before your appointment and let them know so they can get your insurance to cover it and have it ready for you. With out insurance it runs around $800.00 {{{hugs}}}

Iud-easy in easy out whenever you get ready. 99.9%effective. Only side effect-occassionally spotting and light irregular period. Talk with your ob/gyn about it. I have a friend who recommended it to me and my ob/gyn did highly recommend also. Does not get in the way of sex at all. If you decide to have another baby you can get pregnant instantly as if it were never there once removed.i have 6 children and this is my first time using it. I have had it for 3 months-no problem whatsoever. Just stock up on thin pantyliners because the spotting is very sporatic.

I am very anti shot after my experiences as well. I have the Mirena IUD and I absolutely think it is the best thing ever. I was looking on their site and all it says about breastfeeding and having it is to consult your doctor. I can't really figure out why it would interfere with breastfeeding, but I am no doctor! LOL...

If it was an option for you, I highly suggest it. Nothing to think about, no monthly expense, no menstrual cycle. I have also heard really good things about the Nuva Ring. After my shot experience, I am not for anything like that or Norplant.

Good luck with your decision.

An IUD may be a good choice. Call your OB and ask what they recommend.

I just had our 3rd child not even a week ago. I was suppose to get my tubes tied but my husband wasn't 100% sure. ALL the nurses absolutly swear by their IUD's. Thats what I plan on getting. They said they had some pretty much random periods for the first couple months and then NONE at all. I LOVE that idea.

The mini pill and breastfeeding together should work fine. If you're still nervous, use a condom as well. The less medicines you take while breastfeeding, the better.
