Hi gals, I have a question, a little out of the ordinary; My grown (21) daughter doesn't have health insurance. Her job doesn't offer it. Her children (3 and 4) have med-i-cal, I know that she needs to go see a physician (always has a stomache ache, toothache; etc.) Any advice where she could go? Med-i-cal doesn't give medical insurance to adults anymore.

She should check again with medi-cal. My husband and I are covered because we have dependent children. As of July 1, dental care is only covered for the kids, not adults, but we still have medical. There are some changes with eye coverage and chiropractic care has been discontinued, but if she was ever covered, she should check and see where she really stands now.

There are various clinics for medical care. Of course, Planned Parenthood provides birthcontrol and gynecologist visits for next to nothing. You are looking for sliding scale clinics. I wondering if you called your doctor, or any doctor for that matter, they could refer you to a clinic with a sliding scale payment. I think I also went to an Urgent Care facility once and the prices were reasonable. You could also called Planned Parenthood for a medical clinic referral.

Hi L.,
A much less expensive option than health insurance is going with a company that provides discount health benefits, such as Ameriplan who is the nation's leading health benefits company. The way it works is that you pay a low monthly fee and go to one of the dentists, doctors, pharmacies, etc. within the network and they'll give you discounts off their services (up to 80% off). You can go to my website to learn more about it -- http://www.mybenefitsplus.com/BSayler. Hope that's helpful to your daughter.

I have heard that there's a School of Dentistry at UCSF where you can get cheap dental work done by students. I haven't tried it myself, but you might want to check it out.

there are lots of services (fee or low cost) in each county for low income folks who do not have insurance. if u live in the city- healthy families and if u live in the east bay - contra costa health care alliance... depending on where you live... let me know if u have questions on these programs, my husband knows all about them. good luck!
