Having a Baby Shower Need Help!

Hello D.,

I am an event planner, so I have coordinated many showers. You can always google baby shower games, but a few of my favorites are: I can't remember the names, but you can place about 10 baby items(i.e. baby bottle, bib, rattle, pamper, pacifier, etc.) on display somewhere where all the attendants will see them, then when its time to play the game cover them up and give like 3 minutes to see who remembers.

Another game: As 10 questions about the mother to be and who ever gets the most correct wins.

Here is a messy one: Get a 4 bags of rice and some safetly pins. Put them a big bowl. Blind fold the guests and let them see how many pins they can pick out of the rice. These are just a few. I hope this helps.

I'm not a big fan of the games, but I do have something that was so cool and practical that someone did for me at one of my baby showers. This woman bought packs of white onesies and fabric paint. She strung a clothes line across one of her rooms in her house. Throughout the shower, each of the ladies went to the room, created a handmade onesie for my baby and hung it on the line to dry. I came home with some precious designs that I was able to dress my baby in. Hope this helps!

CONGRATULATIONS! I always love fruit and veggie trays, plus there are fun things like sausage balls and what not. I really like Baby Bingo! We had fun with that at my baby shower. >^.^< You could also look at getting things like carrot cake or a cookie from Great American Cookies with a baby theme. Hope this helps!

Well as far as a game, I gave my best friend a baby shower and the game we played was called guess the size of the belly. you can use toilet paper of gift roll paper. All you have to do is pull off a piece of the paper based on what size you think the pregnant persons belly is. If you paper wrapped around her stomach with out overlapping so much you would win, or whomever comes the closest. You can have lil cheap prize if you dont want to spend too much money or you have a budget. Like scneted candles, lotions, 5 dollar gift certificate to like mcdonalds or somwhere or basking robbins, chocloate gift set like russell stoffers, pretty decorative picture frames, or you can make some lil goodie bags with lotions soap body spray(you can get them from the dollar tree). Another game that was played when I had my baby was guess the weight or day you actually think the baby will be born(of course somewhere around the due date) and of course that prize wont be given until after the baby is born(so make sure everyone leaves their contact info) That prize is the Big prize(even the mother to be can get involved if she wanted. The way we did it was every one pitched in and put a dollar or 2 or 3 how ever much the wanted to put in a jar and whatever amount was in there is what the peron who guessed right on point or the closest(my coworker ended up winning 30 or 40 bucks). Now if you dont want to do money you can buy a really nice gift basket from somewhere or make one, but the money jar was alot of fun it kept everyone on their toes. As for food that is real easy, veggie and meat trays, meatballs in bbq sauce, finger sandwiches are always easy(tuna,turkey, ham and cheese), deviled eggs, a fruit tray and dip is a must. I am quite sure you alreay have the cake planned or cupcakes as a dessert. Congrats

i gave my daughter a floating baby shower a little over a year ago. We didn't plan on games because so many people didn't have time to stay. Some stayed a littlewhile and others stayed long. As for decorations we had a diaper cake that was made for her by someone she worked with. We had a white tablecloth with pink, blue, green, and yellow streamers. For party favors we had little bity rattles and patcifiers. We had a table set up with her baby pictures and her hubbys baby pictures. We had cake squares, mints, peanuts, pop, home-made chicken salad with little dinner rolls of which to make sandwiches and of course pickles and potato chips. Nothing was fancy but it was simple and pretty.

As for the grandson with adhd, i have 1 like that too. As long as he is on his medicine, he is calm down. But if his daddy forgets to give it to him, he is wide open. At school he won't sit still, talks outloud, etc. So i know what you are going through there. Good luck with the shower.

I havent read all the responses...BAD ME!!..lol..but when i was carrying my children and people had baby showers for me there were 2 things that stuck out the most...1)..bunnies made out of wash cloths..you can do a search on towel oragami..they are very easy to make...another was game harder than it looks..take a clean gallon jug(milk jug is best)..and have some clothes pins on hand...the object is to stand feet together arm straight out not angling down and try to drop the clothes pins in the jug..time allowed is 30 seconds..

Hi D., I am a grandmother and also still have children at home. For the baby shower just put baby shower games in the search bar and it will bring up all kinds of games and ideas you can down load and copy. Including themes, games ideas on what to do and not do. I gave my daughter inlaw a shower and it was very helpful. Sounds like you have your hands full and I think your a wonderful Grandmother to do what your doing. It's not as easy to raise a child when you have already raised your children. My oldest child has adhd, watch his diet, dyes in food etc. can really be a problem and keep him on a routine. (Bedtime, meals, homework etc.) it is important adhd kids stay on a routine. Also have him do one task at a time, instead of telling him to clean your room, tell him make your bed them come back and I will tell you your next chore etc. Look up ADHD and lead poisoning on your search bar also. You did not mention who would be at the shower, but I am assuming you would have a variety of ages and relationship to the expectant Mother. If most people know each other let them mingle and talk, but if they do not ask each person to talk to at least two people they do not know and for them to ask how they know the Mother-to-be. There are a lot of cute games to play such as naming the baby, giving advice to new Mom or using her name and have each letter represent advice on taking care of a baby. Food can be cheese ball and crackers, fruit, veggies and dip and either cake or cookies and punch, soft drinks, and coffee, nuts and candy. If you wanted to take more time add chicken salad, chips, dip and rolls and you have a luncheon which would take most of your shower time along with gift opening. Most of the ladies are eager to get together, see the expectant Mom near birth, and see her presents. Make it simple and have fun.

At one of my friend's showers a few years ago, they played this funny but sort of gross game in which you identify what kind of candy bar is smushed up in the diaper--Nestle Crunch, Hershey's, etc. One game I've done several times is to cover the labels of baby food jars and have people guess what is in each. You can just code them as Jar 1, Jar 2, etc. At my baby shower, we gave every guest ribbon and had them guess how big around my belly was. They cut the ribbon and I went around the room to let each lady measure me. The one who got the closest won. It was a great opportunity for me to personally visit with each guest.

There are lots of things you can do, but I have a couple of favorites I do whenever I give a shower.
One is to have a list of questions ( around 20 or so) that asks things like, favorite color, age, favorite foods, etc. Give them all a piece of paper (including daughter) and let them all answer the questions about your daughter. Then answer the questions, comparing them to her answers. The one who gets the most right wins the prize.
Another one is to scramble baby related words, such as diapers, pacifier, bottle, etc. The one who unscrambles the most correctly in say 10-15 minutes or so, WINS.
I even made these little diapers out of white felt, and fastened them with safety pins and ribbons for boy(blue) or girl(pink) for guests to wear on their blouse.. they are really cute.
For refreshments you could do finger food, such as quartered sandwiches, chips & dip, pizza rolls make a delightful snack, cake,
coffe, fruit punch and ginerale makes a wonderful tasting punch, and it is inexpensive to make. Make the punch ahead and store it and the gingerale in the fridge, pour the gingerale into the punch just before serving it, so it will still have some bubble. half and half ratio is good.

I've had lots of parties and showers, and the best rule is to 'KISS" Keep it Sweet & Simple". Have something wet and something dry (chips, nuts, cake and punch go great). 1/4 sandwiches are good, too, w/a veggie tray. If you have other friends who might like to be of service (most friends/family do), DELEGATE! Have them to bring something or provide the games, or whatever. It doesn't have to be a 'one man show'. One of the funniest games I ever saw played (but only if everyone has a good sense of humor) is to name about 30 things that someone might have in their purse, have them to search and see if they have it. The ones who have most everything with them (these are usually good natured, fun loving people) and think they're winning ultimately end up losing, because, at the end, you give the prize to the one with the least amount of things on the list and tell the others that they have 'messy purses'. You could give a 'consolation prize' to the one with the most stuff, too.

Hi D., how exciting to plan a Baby shower! I actually keep very busy planning parties for family and friends as I truly enjoy it!

Do you know what time of day you are thinking of having the shower? If it's early brunch/lunch time, I would suggest serving a tray of muffins, croissants or scones, a nice tray of fresh fruit with a fruit dip and maybe a couple cheese balls with some crackers (include some snack mixes or nuts on each of the tables). Have you ever heard of Tastefully Simple? We offer gourmet foods (from muffin mixes to dip mixes to cheese balls) that only require 1 or 2 ingredients to prepare. I use these items for a lot of parties which I plan all of the time.

If the shower will be later in the afternoon, I would suggest an easy pasta dish (we offer a Dried Tomato and Garlic Pesto Dip Mix that easily gets added to cooked pasta and some olive oil)-- it's a hit every time! You can include a salad (tossed with one of our yummy dressings!) Recently I went to a shower where a "questionaire" about the mom-to-be was passed out. Each guest filled in the answers to about 20 questions like: What is the sex of the baby? What is the nursery theme? What name will the baby's name be if it is a boy? What will baby's name be if it is a girl? How much weight has (mom's name) gained? What food has (Mom's name) craved? What theme will the nursery have? etc etc.

The person who answered the most questions correctly was allowed to choose a "prize" from several small gifts.

I have also been to showers where tiny diapers (white napkins folded into diaper shapes and pinned with saftey pins) were passed out to the guests. Later every one unfolded her diaper. The guest with the 'dirty' diaper (the napkin had been stained with a little mustard) was allowed to choose a gift.

And, another fun (and useful) game... 20-25 baby items such as: baby lotion, a pacifier, a bib, a bottle, baby wash cloths etc etc be placed in individual lunch bags that have been numbered. Each bag is passed from guest to guest. The guest must squeeze and "feel" the item thru the bag and write her guess as to what each item is next to the number it corresponds to on her paper. After each of the bagged items has been passed and the guesses have been recorded, the items are taken from the bags and placed into a cute storage bin while guests check their answers and tally their correct responses. The guest with the most correct responses chooses a prize, the mom-to-be gets to keep the items and the storage bin!!

As far as games goes, you can go online and get some great games for baby showers. You can come up with a list of baby items and scramble the words; you can buy those plastic clothes pins and give each guest one when they arrive. The object is not to say the word baby. If the guest says the word baby then someone can get their clothes pin. The person with the most clothes pins at the end of the shower wins a prize; you can also play the game, "Guess what's in the diaper". With this games you will buy maybe 10 or twelve pampers. You will put different things in the pampers, (mashed string beans, mashed carrots, chocolate, mashed spinach, etc). Every guest has to guess what the smell is and write it down on a piece of paper. Some of the items looks pretty bad! The one who guesses the most wins. One other game is to buy some yarn and let each guest try cut a piece long enough to wrap the mother-to-be's belly. No measuring. They have to just look at the mother to be and guess. The person whose yarn is the closes wins.

Usually at a baby shower of course you serve cake, decorated with different baby items; punch, mints, peanuts, little sandwiches, meatballs, chicken salad sandwiches in mini crossaints, vegatable trays, fruit trays, or you can get the little wrap thingies, (don't know what you call them, but they are round and hav meat and cheese in them) You can get them at Sams Club.

Grandmother that still gets invited to baby showers

just google baby shower and/or baby shower games and you'll find TONS of ideas, from games to food, to decorations. That's where I got mine from for my sister in laws baby shower. Also ask your daughter if she has been to any other baby showers and what kind of games they played.

For my daughter-in-law, we googled up baby showers, and got some great ideas. In every invation we asked the person to send a birthday card, and a picture of themselves with a little history, my granddaughter gets a card every year until she is 62. Some came with cd's people had made, last years was a hoot, it had confetti in it, with a loving letter from an old friend of our family, who has since passed. We did the baby shower theme, A Star is Born, with a hollywood star, I ordered it on line with her name on it. We video taped everyone who entered on the red carpet, and had them talk to our new baby. I went to the party store, and got games to play. We had meatballs, home made cheese puffs, homemade candy, and just had a great time. It was so much fun, my daughter-in-law, pretended like a movie star. I hope this helps. Kris

hi D.. first of all with the adhd, my nephew has adhd he does really well on his medicine. he was having a hard time at school but since he's been on the med. he has greatly improved. i'm sorry i don't know alot about lead poisoning except that it can cause brain damage. now about the baby shower...you can do games like bingo, pin the diaper on the baby {doll} blind folded, drinking baby bottle races, anything you can think of that has anything to do with a baby will make a good game for the shower. as for food, is the baby expected going to be a boy or girl? use pink or blue colors accordingly. for example at my shower i was expecting a girl so my grandmother-inlaw made pink leamonade, pink punch, pink cup cakes, ect to go along with the standard finger foods like cracker and cheese, sandwiches, mints, colas, anything that is easy for you to make that does leave you worn out or take too much time. and don't be shy about asking for help. you might be suprized how many people enjoy doing parties and showers.

I wouldn't overload with games, but 1-3 are fun. You can get a bottle (if mom is bottle feeding) or a sippy cup for as the baby gets older. Fill it up with M&Ms and have guest guess the number and write on a piece of pater as they come in. The one closest without going over gets a prize. Then you can also do any word scramble games for baby showers. Go to http://www.babbee.com/baby_word_scramble/ and you can print a free one off their site. There are also lots of other games on this site. Then the one that gets the most right gets a prize. The old stand by is to have each guest try to guess how big mom's belly is. Some moms don't like this so you be the judge. Pass a roll of toilet paper around and have them pull off as much as they think her belly is big; then have mom actually measure. The one closest wins. Prizes could include thank you notes, dish towels, small picture frames, candles, just something small.

Food: Depends on the time but light. Ask what is the moms favorite dessert then have that be the cake, pie etc that you serve. For example one of my friends favorite was key lime pie so we did that in place of cake. Have nuts (assuming no allergies), you can get a fruit centerpiece from edible arrangements (then you don't even need flowers), have little quiches that you can get a Sams, Costco etc.

The theme or colors could be whatever mom has in the baby room. Hope this helps.

I have a great tip. On the invitation ask people to bring a childrens book instead of a card and write a note to the child in it. I did this for a friend and she returned the favor. My 14 mo old son now has a wonderful collection of books that we love!

There are a few games that our family likes to play, but you have to decide because one is just a little...different!

1)Give everyone a paper plate and pencil, have them write their name on the top side, then give them one minute to draw a baby on the opposite side. The challenge is this: they have to place the plate on top of their heads! The mom to be will judge which one she likes best.

2)Baby food tasting: purchase a VARIETY of small baby food jars, cover or replace labels with numbers 1-?, keeping the list in a safe place. You can present them on a silver platter with a baby spoon in each jar and have everyone take a small sample of each on their own numbered paper plate. Popcicle sticks work great as sampler spoons! The one who figures out the most flavors wins a prize.

3)Candy Bar Diapers: get some small disposable diapers and different candy bars (snickers, milky way, baby ruth, heath...). Place half of a candy bar into each diaper (number them!) and microwave each for a few seconds until slightly melted. Have everyone try and figure out which candy bar is which. This one is gross but memorable!

Food should be easy to eat like finger sandwiches, veggie trays, even cupcakes are great because you don't have to slice cake. I prefer mini muffins and fruit platters as well. Tea, water, soft drinks and one simple cocktail would be fine like coffee and Bailey's or if the party's during the summer, a TGIF Mudslide blended with lots of ice will cool everyone off.

Hey D.. I went to this baby shower once & they played this game where they had made necklaces with pink & blue ribbons & little baby rattles. (craft section Walmart) When the guest arrived they each got a necklace that they wore during the shower & if someone used the word (BABY) & someone else heard them then that person got the other persons necklace. At the end of the shower who collected the most necklaces won a prize. They gave out prizes for 1st 2nd & 3rd places. It was very fun & I must add that I received the 1st place prize for having the most. Everyone got a kick out of it. I still have the necklaces so if you would like to see them I would be more than happy to email or text you a pic just so you can see what they look like.

I never had games at my baby showers but I have enjoyed playing games at other showers. One of my favorites was to get a roll of string and have everyone cut off the amount that they think it will take to go around the belly of the mom to be. The one that gets it the closest wins. This is especially fun to see how big some people think the mom to be is!! Another good one is give everyone a clothes pin and have them pin it on themselves. Give a list of a few words that the guests are not allowed to say (Examples like baby, shower, babys name etc). If they say one of the words and someone hears them then they can take the clothes pin. At the end of the shower the person with the most pins wins.
A good idea for game gifts is take a baby bottle (clear) and put body wash in it. I went to one and the girl was having a boy so they found body wash that had blue in it. It was really cute!
Another thing I have seen done is tell all the guests that if they bring a pack of diapers they will be in a drawing for a $50 WalMart gift card. You get plenty of diapers but you do have to come up with a "prize" of your choice!!

Showers today are all about fun. Spend more time on games and food than you would decor. There are lots of websites that have games. Many of the games tell you to list something. Purchase a small colorful grocery list notebook and give each lady a page and a pencil. Also, look for games that are general ice breakers. When women gather they tend to be very reserved until they are invited to open up and have fun. If you are very reserved then ask an outgoing close friend to lead games.

Look for websites from magazines, i.e. Family Fun, Women's Day and such.

games are pretty simple at most baby showers...give every one a clothes pin and everytime some one says the word "baby" they lose a clothes pin, but if they catch some one else saying it they take that persons clothes pin and who ever has the most at the end of the party ets a small prize, or make little diapers out of napkins and give one to each guest and whoever gets the "dirty" diaper gets a prize(just a dab of mustard in it), or have each person tear of toilet paper or cut string to guess how big the momies belly is and whoever is closest gets a prize, or fill a bin with all sorts of baby stuff, give the guest like 30 seconds to examine the bin and then they have like 2 minutes to write down as much of the stuff as they remember, whoever has the most wins, or make up puzzles like unscramble the "baby" words.

prizes don't have to be extravegant...candles, cute little picture frames, little sample bottles of perfume or lotions, little figurines...just little cutesie stuff you can find at walmart or even the dollor tree...people aren't that worried baout getting prizes...it's about getting together, having a good time and celebrating the upcoming birth.

as far as food goes...just snacks/finger foods. a meat/cheese tray, fruit/vegie tray, crackers, chips & dips, mixed nuts, lil smokies in BBQ sauce, a cake, some punch(sherbet mixed with ginger ale is good) and an assortment of sodas should be good.

Most people do not like to play games anymore. You should ask your daughter first if that is what she wants. You can go online and Google "shower games" to get some ideas. Other than that, I would suggest either a "couples shower" which we had for our first son. It is more of a cookout and men and women attend. It is fun and everyone gets to congratulate the blessed couple. For our 2nd child, our daughter, I had an open house brunch. A meet and greet. You can either have a tea/brunch for her where people come and just visit and give their blessings and can come and go or you can wait until the baby is here and have an open house to meet the baby. You have brunch food, punch, tea, and all kinds of baby goodies, bootie petitfors, or a cute cake, cupcakes, and goodie bags for all that include something baby'ish. Like chocolate molded lollipops in the shape of baby items, etc The open houses are classy and low stress.

Many baby showers that I have been to and that have been given for me didn't even have games. They were "floating" and everyone came in, got something to eat, watched the mother to be open presents, and everyone could just talk, eat, and see the presents that were opened. See what your daughter wants, she may want games, or she may not. Drug stores and other places now sell the chocolate fountains cheap now, and that would be great to dip fruit in for the shower. You'll probably want to designate someone to take pictures and/or videotape as well.

YOu can play baby animal games. that is fun! You have to name the baby animals like a goat is a kid and horse is a foal.

well D. for babyshower games you can play identify the mess in the diaper. You get a couple different candy bars and melt em a lil bit in the diaper. Looks bad but lots of fun. You can also get a couple differnt jars of baby food like the stage 1's and take the labels off and have people try to guess what kind it is. such as green beans and peas look alike ummmmm add some fruits to it too. I wish ya best of lucky with your baby shower arrangements.

My mom just had a shower for me a few weeks back. We had fruit, veggies and dip, finger sandwiches, cupcakes and sodas. We only did one game snd its where ppk tried to guess how big around i was with yarn, a few got pretty close.

At my shower, a friend organized a huge scavenger hunt in a shopping center. We broke into teams of 4 and each group had to take pictures of the tasks they completed. That way there were tons of goofy pictures from the shower. That took about 1 hour to complete (But you could adjust the time) so it was the only game we played, but everyone had a blast and the different groups got to know each other.

For my daughters baby shower we did a game booklet. We printed it out from the computer and put them together.
We had a cute baby saying about the baby on the cover page. Inside we had a scavenger hunt list of baby items that we hid around the room and they had 20 mins to find and write down where they were hidden. We had a bingo gride that was blank page and they filled it in before the game started with what they thought the new mother would get for gifts. This is the last game played while the new mother is opening gifts. One page was how well do you know the mother, you ask her questions and write the questions on that page and the guest fill in their answers and then the mother to be reads the questions and gives her answers.

For food we served chips n dip, mixed nuts and mints on each table, ham salad, chicken salad, egg salad sandwiches cut in 4 pieces, a veggie/cheese tray and cake. The drinks were various soda,and a gallon of coolaid/punch for the kids(bought premade).

For prizes I just went to the dollar store and bought $1.00 items and for the door prize I bought something that coust a little more.

Invitations and thank you cards were designed and printed from my computer. Envelopes for these can be bought at a business supply store. Use the theme of the baby shower for thses. We used pooh and put pooh characters on every thing.

Decorations can be bought at the dollar tree or printed from your computer.
