Hi after the responses to my itchy ear question. I decided to try to ear candles again. I previously used the ear candling. I was surprise with how much wax came out of my one ear. The wax was 1 1/2inches long and a quarter of an inch wide. I was shocked I had that much ear wax in my one ear. I used two ears candles for my one ear.

What can I do next?

I have never tried it, but my husband shot an information video for a lady that does this for a living. It was very interesting. It did remove a little wax on the person she was performing on, but not as much as you described.

You must have really needed it..

Ear wax is there for a natural reason, so you don't want to eliminate it ALL... BUT, if your ears are as obnoxiously stuffy as mine are right now, ear wax candles ROCK!! Unfortunately, I can't find anywhere near me that sells them anymore, and I really, really need one :/

When I first heard about it I was intrigued but the more I looked into it, the more the concept turned me off.
From what info I found, it's not something I would ever try.

My best friend swears by them for her frequent Sinus infections. Maybe I'm closed minded. But I don't get it. It seems a little like bloddletting with leeches. It is far too Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman for my taste. No way could I see me getting anything hot anywhere near my ears. Seems dangerous. If it's good, why doesn't your actual MD do it in his office? Can someone explain it to me in a way that doesn't conjure images of Laura Ingles and Little House on the Prairie

I always have ear candles handy. They dont work on me, not sure why, but i have people i know who are skeptics that swear by them and come to me to borrow them. I warm up garlic-oregano-olive oil and put a drop in the ear. then i wait 5 minutes and administer an ear candle. Usually just one. Then i let them borrow my heating pad and lay down on it.

i seriously have done this to like 10 different people. I keep them handy, just as i do lots of other natural treatments, like goldenseal for toothaches, echinacea and vit c for the cold season, etc....

originally this idea surfaced in mexico, mothers would roll up newspaper in a cone and do this process in their children's ears. This has been common practice for like 100 years or more. I think this is a little too dangerous for my liking, The candle is made in such a way that it prevents wax from dripping, and the fire is contained. With proper supervision this is not dangerous and i would do it to my own children. But as with everything else there are skeptics, people ready to debunk anything that is not narcotic, or specifically prescribed by a physician. There are also too many motives for discrediting natural remedies. Simply because they are cheaper, eliminate the need for a doctor, and can easily be obtained and used by the people.

I tend to take evidence on both sides of the spectrum into account when finding a remedy for something. My own personal trial and error is also sufficient.

As iv'e said, ear candles don't do a thing for me, i find that oregano oil, diluted by olive oil dropped into the aching ear, followed by heat will solve my earaches like magic. But a few of my friends would disagree with me, some of them are now ear candle enthusiasts. It really did seem to work on them.

My husband was desperate once, and tried it. Didn't do anything at all to relieve his ear issue. We did, however, almost set the house on fire in the process. I did some further research after the fact (can't remember the source I used, maybe one of the links the previous responses mentioned will have it) and found that it has no documented benefits. Before you put too much weight into what you found after you did it, I would urge you to try doing the exact same thing but without putting it in your ear. I'd bet dollars to donuts that you'd get the same gunk in the bottom.

I think it looks dangerous. I would stick with an ENT.

Just be careful I once got a nasty ear infection that the doctor told me was made worse because I over cleaned my ears . (My ears also get itchy when they are waxy). You do want some wax in there.
