What types of items have you sold on Craig's list? I have to de-clutter my house and would like advise as to where to sell it - Ebay is too unpredictable.

What can I do next?

I've sold many different things on Craig's list - electronics, pet supplies, household items (dishes, pans, pots, etc), bikes, etc. Posting an item with a picture and measurements is the best way to make sure the buyer will know what they are looking at. Also, I've given a phone number that I don't mind giving out, so that the person can call if they want. Kids items sell really well on Craig's list. I have only sold one or two items on CheapCycle, although I have posted many items.FreeCycle is great for just getting rid of things that you can't sell, or can't sell quickly enough. I gave away a lot of items that way, and really cleared out my garage. I do agree, that E-bay can be very unpredictable.

*One word of caution - on both Craig's list and CheapCycle, I've run into some strange ones. On Craig's list, someone made a nasty remark about an animal I like (rats)in an personal e-mail to me and I reported the person. Craig's list doesn't allow people to be harrassed or bothered, and most likely the person was kicked off. On CheapCycle, I was sexualy harrassed by a man who had come to my house to pick up an item. He wrote nasty e-mails to me, and eventually it stopped, but I don't know what their policy on harrassment is. I saved the e-mails incase I needed to report the man to the police, but thankfully he stopped, and I ignored the ones he did send to me.

Good luck :)

I think eBay is alot safer than CL. You can sell the item without needing to meet the person or invite them to your house. Through ebay you can use Paypal for payments so you don't need to worry about receiving counterfeit money orders, counterfeit cash etc. And the no shows with CL are a pain. When someone does show up you most likely don't want them at your house. If you do decide to sell on CL never have them come to your home. The problem I found with CL is that everyone wants you to lower your price. Thru eBay you set your minimum. There are fees involved but you have to price your item to cover the cost of your fees. It has always worked for me. And I can take the items to the PO when I want and not have to worry about making arrangements for someone to come see the item. Just be careful on CL!

We've used Craigslist to sell our babyswing. It took a couple of weeks to sell, but worked great.

I've sold and bought on Craigslist. I'd recommend meeting them somewhere near your house- McDs or a gas station - just for safety. I've never had a problem, but you're telling someone where you live and that you have a baby/toddler. For your safety and theirs.
I give away a lot of stuff on freecycle.org. It's great for all of that stuff that you don't really want to throw away, but it's not worth much. I put it all out on the porch, and someone will usually take it all. And then repost anything they couldn't use. You can obviously get free stuff on there too. A lot of kids stuff goes around.

Yup... we sold our townhome on there, if you can believe it... it was a rental property we had, and wanted to save on the commission. We've also sold a treadmill, lawn mower and washer and dryer. We've also bought off there too.

Craigslist or Yahoo Groups (Classified area of your location)is good for selling items. E Bay charges are too much and the shipping is another story. If you have any questions about either -- e mail me.

We use Craiglist and have sold a bunch of stuff. Also have posted in the wanted section and got responses. Toys sell really well on Craigs. Books don't sell real well. I have found to use the name brand and when people do a search its easier to find your posting. Also using separate posts instead of lumping them into one post works better. I am going to check out Freesource did not know about it...thanks!!! There is a site called etsy which is similar to ebay but they have less fees, you might want to check them. Also the community Press will allow you one ad a week for free if the item is under 50.00 in price. Best wishes, !

I personally like to use cheapcycle. As Cyndi said, you do have to be carefull. If you have a problem with someone, the moderators can ban them from the group. I had to report a lady for calling me names when I didn't give her my item. The moderators banned her immediately. The best thing about cheapcycle is that it is free and you can post pictures which really help things to sell. Good luck!

I have sold quite a few items on Craigslist ... including an inflatable Christmas tree (sold in July!), treadmill, ab roller, weathervane, table, chair, terra cotta pots, vintage sink/vanity & commode, etc. I've also given away some free items. Overall I've been pretty pleased with the results I've gotten, but sometimes it's a little scary when you think about giving total strangers your address. You will also get the "flakes" who promise to come look at something and never show or call and that can be very frustrating.
