I had a tubal after the birth of my son 14 months ago, well since then I have had major cramps and heavy bleeding. My mom and aunt both had tubals after their last children and both ended up having hysterectomies in their early to mid 30's, Is this my destiny or is this just a part of getting older? I have also heard of a disorder called Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome or something to that affect, just wondering if anyone else has gone through this? I no longer have insurance because I was on Medicaid and they only cover you for prgnancy and 6 weeks after.
I have researched on the internet about tubal problems and mine sound just like Tubal Ligation Syndrome, women have reported that their heavy bleeding, painful cramps and horrible modd swings are associated with TLS. The more I read about this the more angry I get. Nobody informed me that such a thing occured. I am outraged that doctors arn't informing patients about this problem, if I had an even a clue about what was going to happen afterwards I never would have done it. But to know that I am not in this alone is a godsend, I can talk to people about how they cope. I had my tubal 20 years ago. Every since I had very heavy periouds & bad cramping. My daughter just had it done a couple of months ago, and she is now experiencing the same thing.

I had a tubal done right after my C-section with my youngest son who is almost 10. (I was 29 then, I'm 39 now)
I had the same problems..... I couldn't wear just one super duty tampon... I had to insert two at a time, every hour on the hour...or good god it looked like I was knived. I had the cramping it was bad to a point. I never had the cramps like my mom and my sister.... my sister still misses work at times because she can't deal with the pain.
My ob/gyn told me to try taking the pill... the pill did help with the issue of the bleeding and the cramping. I stopped taking the pill after 6 months, because I didn't like the idea of putting on the weight. My mom had a tubal in her early 30's .... she took the pill to help, and because of her weight, she smoked at the time, and her age she took it for about 3 months and it helped. She had a hysterectomy when she was in her late 40's because hers continued to get worse and worse.... the only one in my family that has not had a hysterectomy is my dad's mom and she is 88.
She told me not to have a hysterectomy unless had to!! I want to go thru menopause naturally and not be force to take all those hormones right away!
I'm sticking it out... I use Instead for my super heavy days, and pads and tampons for my normal flow days...
The only thing about the Instead is that it is messy to insert and to take out....
I hope you try to stick it out too! Good Luck! I would talk to your ob/gyn.... don't wait, maybe something else is wrong!
I had a tubal six months ago and am having horrible periods. They are every 2 weeks and very very heavy. It is horrible. I don't know if it is from the tubal or not. My ob says it can be from the c-section. I wish you luck because I know how bad it can be. I will be interested to see your responses. Good luck M.
I am 27, had my tubal almost 3 years ago. The first year or so I was shocked with how much more diificult that whole time of the month was- cramps, bleeding, backache, etc. Now I have slightly heavier periods that last about a week, but either it has improved or I have adjusted (probably a combination of the two). Don't do anything permanent right away, it may get better. I am glad you posted this, it is something I wondered about although I wasn't "sick" enough to call a doctor. It was great to read eveyone's responses.

I had a tubal ligation almost 5 years ago after my 4th child. Before the tubal I never had cramps and my periods were so predictable. Now I cramp, and bleed heavy and never know when they are coming. I have gone to the doctors and they have no explination. The pain is so bad I have had to go to the ER because I couldn't handle it. If someone gives you some advise please pass it on to me.

Nothing against you, but I always wonder why people that post something that serious just don't call or go to the doctor. that would be my advice......good luck.
I had a tubal ligation after my daughter was born. I developed adenomyosis from my tubal ligation (reserach TLS, tubal ligation syndrome) my periods were never bothersome before my tubal and afterwards, they started off a little more crampy and a little more heavy. Each month they got progressively worse, to the extent that I was bedridden 10 days a month with debilitating cramps. My quality of life got so horrible that I made the decision to have my uterus removed shortly before my daughters 2nd birthday. It was THAT bad.
It infuriates me to enormous levels that TLS was NEVER discussed with me as a possible outcome. I came to find out that the statistics of women who have uterus problems after the tubal is staggeringly high :(
I am 45 years old and I had a tubal 17 years ago and still have my uterus. I had major cramping for a couple of years after the fact. I don't know if you will be in the situation of having to have a hysterectomy but then there are other treatments for other problems! Give it some time!
You know I had a tubal 6 mo ago after my last C-section, I have had only one period so far but it was really heavy and I had a lot of cramps, I chalked it it up to just being the first one...
I am kinda frustrated because when I talked to my doctor about getting the tubal done I was told nothing should be different, my periods would be exactly the same, and I shouldnt have any more pain. I never even realized there could be a problem until I read this post. I guess I really should have done my reasearch. Ladies, always remember that when it comes to your body, you know it best, don't let someone tell you everything is fine when you know its not...
I just had a c section and tubal the end of Sept. and still haven't had any problems. Good luck to you. I hope you get feeling better!.........
I retract my comment. 3 and half months after the birth of my daughter and I started bleeding horriably and having cramps like never before!!!!! I am with you on being angry, my doctor NEVER said a word to me about this. I am so mad I dont even want to go back and see him. Now I am in the search of a new o.g.y.n. FUN!
Hi, I had a tubal ligation several years ago, and yes, for the first year or so, and even after, the periods are said to be heavier than what your normal is. Even several years afterwards, I have what I consider to be unusually heavy periods. I talked to my doctor about it and she said that hormones can help balance it out, much like taking the pill would only you have to just take it for a few days a week or two before your period... I've not tried it yet, I've been a bit nervous about taking the hormones, but I'm definitely curious to see if it works.
