Has Anyone Delivered at Cedar Park Regional Medical Center?

Hi ladies. I am due with my 2nd son in July and am not on my 4th OBGYN. I have an appointment to see Dr. Parekh with ARC out of Cedar Park and would be delivering at Cedar Park Medical Center. We toured the facility on Sunday and were quite impressed with how modern it was and how nice the nurse was. I have reservations about it being so small and in Cedar Park vs. Austin, but at the same time, I delivered my first son at Seton Central on 35th and it was so busy and big that it ended up not being the greatest experience. Does anyone have any feedback about this hospital and/or this OB? Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I just checked back here! My son will be one on July 2nd (in two days!) and time has just flown. Thanks for all your responses, I actually did end up delivering at Cedar Park Regional and went with Dr. Mointero from ARC. LOVE the doctor, he was there for the birth, and loved the facilities at Cedar Park. I agree with someone saying they felt a little bullied by the nurses, there were about 2 of the 6 that I had that were very good, the rest were kinda lacking in bedside manner...though not terrible by any means. The worst was after birth when they make you pee, the nurse was not helping me and instead demanded I pee and then change myself into the underwear and nightgown. I was still wobbly from birth and the epidural, so it was really hard to balance myself on the wall and dress myself (husband was with baby at this point). She even came in and seemed bothered that I wasn't already dressed and instead needed some help? So yah, not the most amazing nurses, seton central was much better in that regard. The epidural went perfectly and I went into labor naturally so I didn't need pitocin. We had our son in the room with us most of the time but the staff did take him for a few hours at our request for some sleep. Overall, I would say it's a 3.5/5, and great if you have an uncomplicated pregnancy and it is not your first baby. But if you want a little more handholding or are a first time mother who will probably be in labor for quite a while, I'd look elsewhere.

I had my 1st child there on last Sept, 08. I don't like the staffs..They were very very lazy.. Maybe it was new, so nurses were all over places....They didn't even permanent yet.. They didn't watch my baby...I was so tired, baby was crying the whole night, I couldn't sleep...They was just "chitchat", didn't do nothing since there was NO patient...just ONLY me..
My doctor was supposed Dr. Monterio, but my water broke before I was schedule to go in. Dr. Parekh was on duty that night... I like her.. she's super nice...I was glad she was there..since my 1st child, so I didn't know anything..but she was very very patience to walk me thru the whole time.
At first, I went to Seton NW hospital, then my husband wanted me to switch to Cedar park Regional b/c near by to our house..so that the reason I switched. If i'd know that nurses didn't nice, then I wouldn't go there..except one nurse , her name is Xavier...She's very very sweet and the rest of them were lazy..I was the only one there ( the whole floor)..My water broke on Friday's evening, then almost 1am on Saturday I had my 1st one...Since they were so lazy, so I asked Dr. Parekh let me leave on Sunday.. Just a waste for me to stay there.. She adviced me to stay until Monday, since she wanted Dr. Monterio to check up on me before I leave the hospital.. I told her that I couldn't stay b/c I didn't get help fr. nurses...She asked me to bring up to Dr. Monterio... Finally , she had to let me leave.... I had to wait for at least more than 2 hours for a lactation consultant to come ..OMG.. was terrible !!!!.. So I had a BAD experience w/ the staffs there.. I don't know if I want to come back there again.. Not yet, I had to wait such a long time to receive an epidural anesthesia.... YES, I was already dilated 6...Just a bad experience I 'd have w/ that hospital..
Aslo, make sure to check out your insurance. I checked everything before I decided to switch there.. I called the hospital..make sure that they accept our insurance..everything.. They said YES..but guess what??? About a month later I received the BILL... I was so SHOCK !!!!.. Call them , and got an answer that my insurance was out net work w/ an Anesthesiologist.. How I was supposed to know who would be my anesthesiologist??? just only the hospital knows....I was get mad..I had to end up to pay alot...
So watch out...make sure you have to get everything in WRITTEN...NOT verbal...They're very very BAD....
Just want to share..Hope you make the right decision..YEAH.. the hospital looks very nice, very impress...everything.. That how we were at first...
Good luck to you.

While I have not delivered there, I have a friend who took her 6-month old infant son there as he was having breathing issues. They acted incompetent and basically sent her home saying nothing was wrong. She ended up having to take him to Dell Children's Hospital several hours later as he was diagnosed with pneumonia there.
She doesn't have much faith in CPMC when it comes to babies. You can take that story for what it's worth. Maybe the OB/GYN department is a lot better there. Who knows....they are definitely a new MC and so will have to get a few things ironed out before they start running a smooth "operation" (pun intended).

I have heard good things about the doc but not the hospital. I would look at delivering at North Austin Medical Center or Seton Williamson/ Seton Main before going there. Round Rock is also close. I know that Seton Williamson/Main both have ARC doctors so you could stay within the same practice groups.

I delivered my second child at Cedar Park last May.

The L&D facility was comfortable, and I was impressed with the nurses when it came to the care of our baby, but I felt a little bullied by the L&D staff during my delivery.

My advice would be to ask lots and lots of questions, and go in armed ahead of time with instructions on your chart regarding activity during delivery, eating and drinking, etc. For instance, I waited too long to ask them why they were monitoring so much - blood pressure every 15 minutes? They were just being super-careful - I was having a v-bac. After I asked, the nurse was happy to dial the machine back to every half-hour. They also will NOT let you sit upright after an epidural (and they didn't want me to lay on my side, either - they had to keep re-setting the monitors if I moved, so they just didn't let me move), so again, I would get instructions from your doctor prior to going in. That is my only real negative about the experience - I wish I had been a little more assertive.

Also beware: there is no nursery. The plan is for all babies to "room-in." Our daughter needed oxygen support (meconium inhalation), and they set up a makeshift nursery just for her. But having no nursery means there is no staff for a nursery. We were lucky that it was slow, so the L&D/post-partum nurses could take shifts for our child, but we ended up having to have her transferred down to Seton Main. (She's okay now, by the way.)

Best advice I can give is to hire a midwife and stay at home. Safer and healthier for you and the baby. I am due with my 3rd at any moment and baby will be born at home just like my 2nd baby was.

Good luck,
Lisa
