My 5 month old daughter was diagnosed with Hand, Foot, Mouth this morning. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any information would be great. She's absolutely miserable!!
Both of my daughters have had it. It is a very painful virus that will go away on its own...just don't feed her anything with acid in it...like tomatoes, lemons, etc.

In the daycare that work at some of the kids had foot mouth, they said its not nothing to really worry about, as long as you give the child the proper medicane, everything is going to be ok.
Make sure she gets plenty of fluids. My little boy had it when he was 2 and ended up going into the hospital for two days because of dehydration from diaherra and vomiting. I don't want to scare you, but try to make sure she doesn't get dehydrated.
A., the blisters should last no more than ten days at the most. Usually, the blisters in the mouth and on the bottoms of the feet are the most uncomfortable. As far as her mouth, let her drink water, if she will. Also, you can use baby teething mrdicine to numb the blisters. Dont use alot. Let her go without shoes for her feet( inside of course). Soft thick socks can also give her relief.

So sorry, I defintely feel for you. H,F,M, is viral. My 9 yo had it when she was 7. She was very uncomfortable. Although not as uncomfortable as my niece who was 13 when she had HFM, hers lasted about two weeks. It only lasted about 2 days with my 7 yo. I just treated the symptoms as I could, nothing more. A. it has to run it's course. But you need to wash everything she puts her hands on and in her mouth everyday.
Spray house with lysol it will take a while for it to go away.
You really do just have to wait it out, and try to keep the baby hydrated. HFMD ran through our play group last year, and a couple of the babies ended up in the hospital with dehydration, so make sure to push the liquids as much as you can. Good luck!
Both my children have had this.My son had it when he was 2 and was totally miserable.I felt so bad for him.I remember he couldn't eat or drink without being in pain.I know we took him to the doctor but I can't remember what they did for him...he is 9 now,that is why I can't remember.It is a terrible thing to deal with.What did the doctor do for you daughter? Good luck,maybe some pain meds would help.
My son had it when he was about 9mths. At that age with all of the crawling around and constantly putting his hands in his mouth, I wasn't surprised. It's very common, especially in 2yrs and under (when hands and everything else is always going in the mouth). All you can do is wait it out just like all of the miserable viruses. It'll be over soon. Just love on her.
Hi,I know it is miserable for her and you, because there is not much you can do. When my oldest was almost two, she had hand, foot, mouth. They really could not give her any thing for it, but I learned about something called magic mouthwash, it is supposed to numb the inside of there mouth. That helped a little, and Tylenol. I would give it to her before she would eat, so it wouldn't be so painful. She did drink alot of juice and liquids to keep her hydrated. My doctor thought that she got it from the buggies in the stores. I think hers lasted about a week. I hope this might help, feel free to email me ____@____.com

My son is 13 months. He contracted it at his mother's morning out program. It just showed up on him as little red bumps all over his body but especially around his butt. I thought that ants were biting him at first because all the dots had a white head on them. He got more on his hands and feet too. I didn't have any inside his mouth but truth be told he didn't seem bothered by it. He never picked at them or tried to itch them... so it really wasn't that big a deal for us. The doctor told me to just relax about it and give him some motrin if he was running a fever or something but otherwise that it would go away on its own.... and it did. after about a week.
Ditto to what everyone else has said -- push the liquids and treat the pain w/Tylenol or Advil. Poor thing!
My daughter (7 months) recently had this, except she only had the mouth part. All i can say is I'm so sorry and it just has to pass. Give her cool liquids and things like baby yogurt or pudding/jello (if she's eating solids). It is a miserable thing but it does pass. It's medical name is herpangina, which might help you look up more information, but basically it's the same family that causes cold sores. It's miserable b/c it's very painful and can be preceeded by a severe headache. Let me know if you have more questions.
I feel for you with this sickness! My daughter got the same thing when she was a year old. Its awful! And its highly contagious. I got it from her and it was bad i stayed in the bed for days hurting all over. My daughter got to the point where she would not eat anything and hardly drink anything. We would force what ever we could so she would not dehydrate. We gave her ice cold pedialite or gatorade. She would drink gatorade better than anything. Icecream was good too. Mashed potatoes. Pretty much anything soft and easy to swallow because there mouth is on fire. Just to let you know this is a long sickness! Once the mouth finally clears up then the sores on the hands and feet decide to come up. They are not so bad depending on how bad they are they come up as little red bumps that soon turn in too liquid filled blister that hurt bad.
I feel for you!!!! If you haven't got sick with it yet good. All i can tell you is wash your hands all the time. Don't kiss her don't drink after her. It will spread real quickley from there diaper changes. SO WASH WASH WASH!!!!!!!!!!! Good Luck! I hope she gets over it real quickley!!!! A.
My 5 month old daughter just got over it. The doctor told me to just give her Children's Tylenol every four hours until it was gone. Once the rash appears, it ain't contagious anymore. My daughter was still allowed to go to daycare but I kept her home for 2 days until the rash was gone. There really aint' nothing that you can do for it except just let it run its course.
My friends little girl has foot in mouth and said that it just has to run its course. It is really contagious though so look out. You could probably give her some tylenol for the pain.
i know this may sound strange, but our doctor suggested a mixture of mylanta (yes the adult kind) and benadryl to soothe and coat the throat. mix half and half and give about a teaspoon every 6 hours or so....

My name is K.. I am a firefighter/EMT in raleigh. Both my children as infants and toddlers have had it. Your child will be miserable for awhile until the antibiotic kicks in. I recommend that if she is on a pacifier that you throw them all out and buy completely new ones. The same as for the nipples on the bottles. This stuff is highly contagious. You could also give her tylenol for pain every 4 hours and motrin every 6 hours. If you need any more advise please feel free to email me at ____@____.com
hi my daughter had that when she was about one and she had big wight blister all in her mouth and all we could do is wait it out and give her ice cream and pop cicles to keep her mouth numb, and we also prayed a lot.
my son had that too! The doctor gave us some numbing ointment to put on the sores in his mouth - those were the ones that hurt him the most. The rash on his hands and feet never blistered, but i'm sure they have something to help with that pain as well.
