YES!!! You must keep her away from other children. Although rare in adults, they can get it to so don't share drinks/food, etc.. Your Dr. didn't mention how contagious it is? Since it's been 4 days, at the most 6 more. 7-10 days from start to finish or when sores are healed on hands/feet and gone from the mouth. Both of my kids just had it. Nothing you can do but if she gets the sores in her mouth, they will hurt and you'll want to help her with that. No acidic foods. To help numb the pain (if she gets sores in her mouth) 1:1 ratio of kaopectic and childrens liquid benadryl (SHE WON'T BE INGESTING THIS - but it is safe if she gets a little) since she is too young to gargle and spit out, put this mixture on a cotton swab and just go over the sores in her mouth. It won't get rid of them, but will aid in healing and help with the pain.

Hope your daughter is feeling better soon. HFM is VERY common.

my daughter had hand foot mouth at like 14 months old. it can be horribly painful. i took her to the er and they said that she had 5ths disease but i was like no that doesnt cause the rash on her feet... i knew better and took her to her dr the next morning and she confirmed what i thought. also her sores didnt look like the pictures on line. yes there isnt anything you can do other then watch for fever and pain. they can get these sores in their mouth which make it hard to eat (cause it hurts) so make sure your baby drinks a lot of fluids. its best if you keep them away from other kids until all sores are gone. i know before we knew my daughter had it she was at a birthday party and came in contact with a lot of kids so i had some calls to make to aware parents. just give her lots of love and try to keep her as comfortable as possible. also my daughters dr said that if she seemed itchy by it to give 1/4 tspn of childrens benadryl but it will make her sleepy. good luck!

Hello J.! Make sure you contact your OBGYN and let him/her know your child has HFMD.
Pregnant women need to be extra careful when exposed to this condition. No need to be scared, just careful. God's best to you and yours!!!!

Hey there ! my daughter was just diagnosed with it yesterday! ugh to both of us! i dont know if my daughter has more sores in her mouth than normal or if it is MASSIVE teething but this not eating..fussiness...and DROOLING is horrible! the doctor said to use something called hurricane? in her mouth to help her but we couldnt even find the stuff! we were using tylenol and it didnt help at all..so tonight we gave her motrin and it helped a lot more. i guess motrin has an anti-inflammatory in it? i didnt know that. I am curious as to the people who told you to use benadryl. i dont know about you, but my daughter hasnt even been sleeping much...so that benadryl is sounding tempting but so scary because we arent supposed to be giving it to them until 6 years right? agh this is frustrating! i hope your child isnt as bad as mine. We are planning on no day care this entire week or until the sores go away. BOO HOO!
