Just wondering, do you all wash your kids' Halloween costumes BEFORE wearing them? I know we should wash clothes for infants but what about toddlers?

Wondering because of all the reports of costumes getting recalled!

Thanks all!

I never washed a Halloween costume. Be wary of fear mongers.

I think most costumes cannot handle a washing because they are so cheap to begin with! I have never thought to wash before they wear, except for when my niece was a gingerbread girl as a baby. It was more of a bunting then a costume and she was still very young. If you are concerned about the costume for your toddler, you can take a look at it and decide if it is good enough quality to wash . . . but think about shrinking before hand. Or you can always just put on some clothes on underneath. This is usually what I did with my niece because the costumes were always very thin.

I think most store bought costummes would fall apart if you washed them. My kids are wearing snow suits under their costummes for trick-or-treating, and clothes under them for indoor parties, so they aren't really touching their skin anyway.
