I'm totally just curious what is going on with schools these days. I remember growing up and wearing my costume to school, having a costume parade, and party. My daughter goes to public school full day kindergarten and is doing NOTHING! No costumes nothing I was a little disapointed I guess. I am just wondering what other districts do or don't do just curious.

What can I do next?

My daughter attends a magnet school in the st. Paul district and they had a Halloween Party yesterday for Kindergarten. At the beginning of the year they weren't going to, but they changed their minds for some reason and I thought it was GREAT!!!!!

We are in the Prior Lake school district and they had a "Harvest Party" The kids were able to bring their costumes to school to change into. They did a parade and a classroom party for the last hour of school. it sounded like they had a good time.

Connor's daycare did costumes yesterday, and did a parade in the costumes, and had a party today, and even had the kids bring stuff in. I think school's should do more than toddlers in a daycare center! I'm going to be dissapointed when he starts school...

Hi B.-
My 2 school age children go to district 194 Lakeville and my daughter who is in half day kindergarten got to wear her costume and do a little parade but my son who is in 2nd grade did not get to wear his costume. My son's class got to watch ET for their Halloween Party but nothing else.
I to remember wearing my costume to school, having a huge parade for ever grade in Elementary, and it being a big Halloween Party day with having no class but all the grades got together and played games and told stories.
Have a good day-

Well we are new to Minnesota and this was our first Halloween here. My son is 5 years old and he thought everything was great. He attends Peter Hobart in St Louis Park and they let them wear their costumes. He does go half a day but it was so much fun. I stayed the whole morning and just helped the teacher with the parade and the party they had. The only thing they didn't do was hand out candy which I was not mad about because he got more than enough candy last night. That is to bad that the school didn't do something.

B.,
I too remember getting to wear costumes and having a party and remember how much fun it was. My little guy is not in school yet, but I have heard mixed things from parents. Some schools allow children to wear costumes 2nd grade and under, while other schools do nothing. Its disapointing that the younger children dont get the opportunity to celebrate. I know that older kids do get more creative with their costumes, meaning they want to be dressed in costumes with swords, knives, masks, etc. That may have something to do with no celebrations as well. But the "religious" affiliation is a big part.

I teach K for Minneapolis Public Schools. I LOVE Halloween but the school district has said we are not to have Halloween parties. It isn't clear to me why we cannot celebrate it. Halloween is also 'All Souls Day' so it may have some religious basis? I had a Halloween party for my own kids and the kids of my friends because their schools can't!

my son is having a party & the teacher sent home a list of items that would be appreciated to be donated to the class as not budgeted. Children could not wear costumes to school. The are to have no costume that is violent or brittany spears like.
They can change at school. I guess it mostly depends on the principal & teacher.

Hi B....my daughter goes to school district 196 which is Eagan, Apple Valley, Rosemount. She has had a halloween party yearly. They celebrate very nicely. Have you asked the teacher why they do not celebrate? I know at my daughters school there are some religion/personal reasons why children dont partake in the festivities but most of the kids do.

My son goes to a private school and had a halloween/costume party today. I just found out that the public schools do not allow costumes or halloween celebration at all. I was surprised that at a catholic school they do. Just an observation that is strange.
