Halloween Costume... - Uniontown,PA

I have a neighbor whose daughter went as a basket of dirty laundry last year. Cut a hole in a laundry basket, add some suspender straps & fill with clothes and maybe am empty detergent bottle....

Also "Static Cling" was a cute costume....black sweats and socks, undies, etc sewn all over.....different!

A bubble bath (take a laundry basked cut the bottom out to his size and glue white poster board on the inside to cover the holes in the basket) put him in all white with a shower cap on his head, blow up clear small balloons and put in the bath tub and attach some to him to look like bubbles. You can also screw a rubber duckie to the front of the laundry basket, or an empty shampoo bottle. You could have him hold a bubble gun to blow bubbles also. I saw a little girl wear this once, really cute!

A toothbrush or tube of toothpaste.

my fav for my son was an autograph hound. Tan/grey sweatsuit, sew on some patches. A doggie-head mask (or paint a doggie face on him). Oh, & a tail, of course! The whole family signed him.....as did his friends. & the best part was using the costume for a PJ for the next two winters! My son did this in 1st Grade, but most 4 1/2y.o. can sign their name or at least make a mark.

Another fav was King of Hearts. Red sweatsuit, Burger King crown painted - with jewels glued on. Overcoat was a piece of white heavy-duty fleece (or white quilt batting works, too)...just fold in 1/2 & cut out a neckhole! Big red felt hearts glued onto the overcoat.....so he looked like a King of Hearts from a deck of cards. A belt to hold the overcoat on over the sweatsuit... & that belt held his sword! & that's it. My son was adorable!

Super cute and really easy...

Get a large clear trash bag, cut two holes in the bottom for leg holes, and the fill the rest of the bag up with little blown up balloons...

tape the top of the bag shut with duct tape and around the legs so they dont rip... and wallah... you have yourself a little bag of jelly beans!

Yesterday I Googled DIY Kids Halloween costumes and found some cute ideas. One was a tornado made with chicken wire and spider web stuff. Another was a jellyfish, and another a cactus. 2 years ago my husband was Bubble Wrap Man in which he took lots of bubble wrap and made himself a suit. Everyone loved it. I saw cupcake, ice cream cones and cotton candy costume ideas too. Can't wait to start making costumes for my 3 kids and myself!

Spiderweb - black sweats, take cobweb and spread around while child is wearing. Add spiders!!! (cheap, easy, and comfortable!)

Get a pair of overalls and a cloth painters hat, splash paint on them. Stuff his pockets with a paintbrush and use an old paint bucket to hold his candy. He's a painter!

Use the same overalls (without paint) and make him into a farmer. Get some straw in his pockets, get a bandana around his neck and a cowboys hat. Get a small pail and write "milk bucket" on the side.

This year my son is a huge fan of Toy Story so I have found a yellow & red plaid shirt. I need to go get/make/buy a cowprint vest. We have a bandana and will make a buckle and a sherrif's badge out of cardboard. We already have a cowboy hat. He'll make a wonderful Woody.

My son went as a robot one year. We took a box and painted it white, cut arm holes & a hole for his head. We bought a length of cheap white dryer hose and made those to cover his arms & legs - we pinned them to his clothes with big safety pins and you couldn't see them once the box "body" was put on. We stuck all kinds of odds & ends on the front with a glue gun to look like controls - buttons, stray hardware, those little caps you put on the bottom of chair legs, even an old TV remote. He had fun collecting all the junk to stick on there - the basement and the "junk drawer" are gold mines! If you want, you can take another box and make a head covering for him. If you don't want to deal with paint, just cover the box with gray duct tape and use the metallic dryer hose.

For trick or treating, we hung a bag onto a cup hook stuck into the "body" -- he didn't even have to carry it! And you could stick on those glow sticks just before he goes out and/or use some reflective tape on the back. Safety and creativity at once!

One of the best costumes I ever did for my son was a mummy! I just bought different widths of gauze from the drug store (you could tear up old sheets, too). He wore a gray sweatsuit and I wrapped him from head to toe in gauze! I left a few 'trailing pieces' here and there, and when he was completely wrapped, I made him look 'dirty' with costume makeup and blackened around his eyes & mouth. He looked SOOO good. Tip: make sure he goes potty before being wrapped. LOL

We had a large Raggedy Andy doll and my kids wore his clothes as each child reached that size.

Go to the costume department of a large Walmart or K-mart and look to see what they have. That will give you plenty of ideas of the most popular costumes.

My son is obsessed with the movie Happy Feet, so I got a penguin costume for $12 on Ebay. There are some fairly easy ways to make the costume for those that are crafty (for an uncrafty accountant like me, I'm better off buying, haha). Good luck!

My soon to be 4 yr old wants to be cotton candy for Halloween this year. Im not sure where he got the idea or how Im going to pull it off but it sounds like fun so we're going to try it.

How about "Wild Thing" from "Where the wild things are"

My friend's mother used to make her the coolest costumes. One of my favorites was a table. All she had to do was take a large cardboard square, cut a hole in it for the head, glue some longer strips on for legs and glue paper plates, napkins, cups & utensils to the top. The head served as a floral centerpiece. She bought a cheap baseball hat from the dollar store, cut off the bill, and hot glued artificial flowers to it. So cool & guaranteed to never be the same as another kid's.

You could also add a tablecloth to it by using an old bed sheet, or find another cheap one.

My daughter is 10 and going to be a vampiress this year. Maybe try and do the vampire thing it is cheap and easy black cape and fake teeth and face paint fake blood is all you need.

My favorite idea for a walking child is "Cloudy with a Chance of Showers" - - - blue sweatsuit, with a cloud made from pillow stuffing attached to the waist, a dome umbrella with rain drops hanging from it! I really hope one of my boys will go for this idea when they are big enough to walk the parade route.

Carter's on-line has already clearanced their Halloween selection - - - this morning that had sizes up to 5T available. They aren't original though. :-(

A great costume I once made was a bat. All you have to do is get a black shirt, black pants, and a black umbrella. Cut half of the umbrella off and glue it to the sleeves of the shirt so that when he raises his arms the wings expand. You can add more details like glow in the dark paint or felt bat ears attached to a baseball cap. This is a very inexpensive but cool Halloween costume.
