My DD wants to dress up for Halloween as a ... COFFEE MUG! Yeah, she's quirky and clever and I love her. Any good ideas? We've already determined that if push comes to shove we can hang end to end posterboards in a cirlcle around her - easy to make whatever design we want, but is there something else we could do? What about the cup handle/arm?
Thanks mamas!

Hot Chocolate Costume

I used a laundry basket, foam core, poster board, white and brown felt, stuffing and my computer and printer for the dish pattern. I decided to sew the marshmallows and a whipped cream hat. I sewed the brown “liquid” and attached it to the inside of the basket with a big needle and yarn, attached the marshmallows with a quick stitch. To help hold the costume up (it was kind of heavy), I attached suspenders to the inside of the basket.

She was the hit of the neighborhood.

I love it. How about using a cheap laundry basket for the base and covering it with felt. Hang it over her shoulders with straps. You can then make a handle out of cardboard and attach it to the basket. Love the headband idea.

The only thing I can think is some wispy cotton attached to a headband to create steam. Good luck.

I would get a roll of white foam. Hot glue the white foam end to end for the mug. Then glue a 3 inch sliver of foam and hot glue that over the seam for the handle. She can wear a little headband with puffs of cotton batting hot glued on top for 'steam'.

I am sure there is a way that you can attach more poster board for the handle, but it might take a few attempts. Maybe she can be a coffee mug with hot chocolate in it and you can figure out how to make some marshmallows . . . that would be very cute!

I might start with a cardboard box if it could be bent into a mostly round shape. (My daughter (9) is making her own robot costume with a large cardboard box). I might attach cardboard pieces to her arm, to be the cup handle, so she could still move it when she needs to. How about decorating her candy collecting bag/bucket as a big sugar lump?

I think the posterboard is a great idea! Attach some straps from the top front to top back to hang on her shoulders.

Google search coffe mug costume pics - I saw some good ones!
