My 20 month old daughter used to love to have her hair washed, she would love the fact the water would run down her face and in to her eyes. She would laugh about it and smile. But now comes the hard part the last couple of weeks i have had some proublems washing her hair. She dont like the fact that the water is in her eyes and she will scream if i start to wash her hair.

I have been using tear free shampoo
I have went out and bought the thing that keeps the water out of the eyes
I have tryed sitting in there with her to wash her hair and lay her down
I have tryed washin her hair over the tub/ sink..

I have just plain out of ideas. I hate to have her cry when i was her hair. I dont her to be afraid of the bath. But I stay clam and tell her it is going to be alright..

Suggestions will help..

What can I do next?

So, personally, I think this is a little sign of independence, and you need to treat it like you would treat any other kind of tantrum.

My son did this on and off. (3.5)
He doesn't get a vote. It takes 1 minute, if that, to wash hair. I have a big bucket that I use to rinse the shampoo out. 2 bucketfulls and we're done.

Maybe I'm more of a "tough love" kind of mom...but it's one of those things that you just have to do. Suck it up, kiddo!

By 20 months old, my kids loved the shower. I either got in with them or they stood up and got washed off. My daughter HATED getting water in her ears laying in the tub. My son...he just loved the shower. He was hilarious because he would sing into a plastic spoon like it was a microphone. I used a plastic cup to concentrate water to get the shampoo and soap off of him.
Try a shower.
It can't hurt.
Like I said, my daughter always liked baths and then she started freaking. It was her ears, not her eyes. She never had infections or anything...just didn't like water in her ears. That was short lived, may I add. Both of my kids love water and were excellent swimmers from the time they were young. I did go through a phase with my daughter though.

Best wishes.

I just have my daughter lean her head back and try my hardest to keep it away from her face. I give her a dry cloth to wipe her face with if it gets in her eyes.
When I was 3/4, I was TERRIFIED to have my hair washed. I kicked, I screamed, I threw a fit! My poor parents! Lol. Once I learned to cover my eyes with a cloth and lean ALL the way back, I felt better. I still to this day do not like water anywhere near my eyes.

When my kids went through this we would lay them on the counter in our kitchen and wash their hair in the kitchen sink, kind of like at a salon. Sounds silly but got the job done.

My daughter is 20 months old too and she hates this too
What I do is just cup my hand over her forehead and lean her head back and not much water hits her face she does whine for a bit but I wash off shampoo or conditioner and she's fine right after it's done
I do hope it's a phase and she will get over it or at least tolerate it a bit more

I should add she has never liked tubs so I've showered her with me or let her stand under the "rain" that makes it a bit fun I guess cuz she plays with the water and even dips her whole head in the rain :)

Maybe give showers a shot. See if she will like the rain like my lil girl.
Good luck
Hth!

How old is she, that would help. If old enough, have her hold a washcloth over her face and tight around her hairline to absorb any water from washing her hair. Tilt her head back and pour the water back to avoid her face, while putting your hand over her hairline so the water doesn't run into her face.

Try getting in the bathtub with her. You can also try having her hold her head all the way back (ask her to look at the ceiling - it helped a LOT with my son). It was a phase and it just got better.

My son hates having his hair washed too. I bought a visor to put against his forehead while rinsing so the water doesn't get into this eyes and ears. It's much better now. Here's what I got: http://www.amazon.com/Lil-Rinser-Splashguard-Blue-Pink/dp...
