I would like to know if any of you have used the hair removal services that I see at the mall where it looks like the lady is using a thread or wire (something very thin) to remove eyebrow hair? I have never stopped to inquire or see what other hair they remove. But I wonder if they could remove hair under your nose (like a woman's moustache)? How exactly are they removing the facial hair? Does it hurt? Is it permanent? If not, how often do you have to get it done and how much does it cost? Thank you in advance for your answers.

What can I do next?

I found that eyebrow threading was way more painful than waxing. I only tried it once and went back to waxing. Though I will say that I hear the more you do threading the less painful it gets. Just for me, I find waxing to be quicker and less painful - maybe just because I am more accustomed to it. For me, both the threading and waxing last about 4 weeks.

That's threading :)
The way she twists the thread on her fingers makes it pull the hairs out. Like tweezing, but a whole row of hair at once instead of one at a time.

It hurts less than tweezing (cause it's not one hair at a time) or waxing (no skin irritation).

It's not permanent, but (like tweezing and waxing) the more you do it the less noticeable the hair is in between.

I get my eyebrows and upper lip threaded every couple of weeks. It costs me about $20 total for both areas.

I love threading. Too bad there's only one person in town that does it and she's not very pleasant. She does do a great job and the eyebrows run $10.00.

The upper lip hurts but the re-growth is a lot less than waxing. I tried it twice and it hurt a lot and I broke out a little. I just stick to the eyebrows.

I concur with Thea - it's threading. As an FYI - I've waxed for years and also had laser hair removal and the hair ALWAYS grows back. Granted, it took much longer with the laser treatment, about 8-10 weeks but, it cost $200! The threading I had done in the mall was about $15 and she only did my brows. It does smart a bit, much like plucking your brows.

Threading is great - but it hurt a bit.. I like it b/c you can get a much better shape than w/ waxing. If it's for under your nose I might look into electrolisis (sp??!!) b/c that's permanent. Good luck

To follow along with the laser hair topic, for it to be permanant you have to go have it done ever 4-5 weeks for atleast 12 months. Yes, your hair will grow back in the beginning because the laser only kills the folicles of the hair that's actively growing. The hair folicles grow in at different times. The hair removal will be permanant if you get the treatments done for atleast a year. However, If you are thinking about having more children I would wait. The increase in hormones will make your hair grow back. I had laser removal about 7 years ago and it was permanant for 4 years until I got pregnant again. Then, it all came back. So, now I'm doing it again. I paid $280 and that is for my lip & chin and good for all 12 treatments. It should be permanant until I hit menopause. :-)

I have never heard of threading but I have been doing electryolsis for several years now on my upper lip and chin. It is painful and expensive over time but as it kills the hair follices, the hair stops growing. I wasn't good about going regularly, as in every week or two and sometimes I did waxing as it removes all the hair. It is also painful, kind of like a pinch, but the pain is only for a second or two.Waxing is not permanent but the hair that grows back becomes lighter and less coarse over time, making electrylsis easier.

I will be looking into laser hair removal for my daughter, not sure about the cost, pain factor, and how long the results are ( I thought it was permanent but someone here said it wasn't for them).

For me, I pay $1 a minute for electrylosis, so costs about $7-8 a session, every 2 weeks. I am now okay to go every 3 weeks, so the cost will be less, but waxing lasts me 4-5 weeks, so I do that every few months.
