Good Morning Moms. I am an African American woman and I am looking for a great reasonably priced hair stylist to do my hair. I don’t go to the hair salon because my hair is extremely thin in the middle almost bald and I am a little ashamed for people to see it. I have been dealing with this since I was about 16. I have tried everything from Rogaine to laser treatments in which I spent lots of money and received no benefits from. So I have decided to live with it. I have been to a number of her salons that have all made my hair look extremely beautiful but it always required me to get extensions which I wouldn’t have any problem with but every time I have received them when I go to take them out it cause more damage to my scalp. My hair hangs a little past my shoulders. I really don’t know what to do with it most times I wear it in a ponytail but I hate it. I want to look my age and feel pretty. I would love to get my hair styled regularly but I don’t know what to do. It anyone has any idea please share. Desperate.

What can I do next?

M.,

Have you tried the lace front wigs. They look so real and its human hair so you can style it, wash it and do everything to it. They are a little pricey but this will give your hair time to breathe and grow instead of doing extensions. This is just a suggestion.

Hope it helps!!

I don't have much experience with African American hair.. but I have pretty thin hair on top as well.. I don't have any advice on hair styles or anything but I have found a product that helps me feel a little more confident about my thinness.. It's a product call Xfusion.. it's small keratin fibers that you sprinkle on your scalp there it is thin. It makes your hair look very naturally thick. It's nothing permanent and sticks in there for the most part until you wash your hair or it gets wet (you might have to freshen it up a little everyday). You might want to give it a try. You can buy it on Amazon.com

Take a look, my husband uses it too because he is starting to thin on top and he totally loves it gives him that extra confidence about his hair.

African American wigs are available for very reasonable prices on many websites and through at least two well-known catalogs for very reasonable prices. (Paula Young and Beauty Trends). You could try out styles. Wigs make changes and well-dressed looks very easy. Returns without a restocking fee are allowed with these two catalogs. The keratin fiber fill-in effect is another option, but it depends on where your thinned area is located and the amount of hair which surrounds it. An extremely well-known wig store exists in Wheaton, MD (Amy's) and caters specifically to women enduring hair loss due to chemotherapy. NIH and many physician offices refer their patients there. They are very professional and have 1,000s of styles and place all orders. I have several friends who were impressed and satisfied with their beautifully fitted wigs from this store that they used during therapy. In some cases these wigs were so similar to their hair color and styles that I had no idea! Good luck.

Why not try hair transplants to fill in the bald areas. Message your scalp daily to drawn/stimulate the blood supply toward all over. Also try using drinking/ and rencing hair with it, of cause cool in first. Look up Urine Theraphy (UT). My grandmother/mom used these methods on all 8 children. We all have blimish free skin smooth and ok hair. Mine is slightly thick, but have had relaxers in my hair on the past 20 years. Now, I going but a relaxers in about 2x's a year, mainly during the summer. Touch ups every every 8 wks. I going natural during the winter months.
